Menagerie followed close behind Paladin, soaking in the city. She never had had much of a problem with a sense of direction, but a lot of her life had been in areas without many extremely tall buildings, which had a bad tendency to make all the streets look very similar. She gave the rare people who payed them much attention waves but there weren't that many surprisingly. She had never previously lived in a city with a large Hero presence, so it seemed odd how normal it was for San Francisco residents to see them on patrol.
"Well it was a lucky coincidence really. I had moved to the city for unrelated reasons right before the Program first contacted me, but apparently they had noticed me slightly beforehand and planned to station me here anyway, so I suppose I'd be here anyway. I've been here a few times, but mostly only for the airport, my family used to spend Spring Breaks in Sonoma or Mendocino county. Really beautiful up there." Frank started looking around too. While he obviously didn't have eyes or any way of sensing anything, Menagerie's skeletons had a habit of mimicking her actions even when it was completely pointless to do so.

Menagerie widened her eyes (not that anyone could tell behind her mask) as Paladin pulled her with a great deal strength considering she and her armor together must have weighed almost 200 pounds. Hadn't Paladin said she couldn't fly? Then she remembered the response; 'I can get pretty close'. Frank seemed to somehow sense that he needed to hold on tight, and dug his bony fingers into the slight gap between a bone plate and the fabric portion of her outfit to allow her to move her shoulder.
Once at an amusement park Menagerie had been on a ride that she couldn't for the life of her recall the name of that used pneumatic pressure to shoot seats you strapped yourself into up an extremely tall tower. This was a lot like that except even higher and instead of being strapped into a seat firmly attached to a tower she was attached only to another person. It was certainly rather exciting, but while Menagerie wasn't afraid of heights per se, there was certainly a part of her brain that very much did not like being unsupported in the air Very soon it was done, and Menagerie wasn't sure if she should be disappointed or relieved. They had hit the ground with nothing more than the slight thud of boots hitting the ground, Frank still perched on her shoulder like nothing had happened. Taking a few steps to rebalance herself she gave paladin a slightly daze smile "That was most definitely unexpected. It was kind of extremely scary and extremely awesome at the same time. I think I'm alright though, so thanks for getting us past the traffic". As a relative newcomer to San Francisco Menagerie was entirely unsure where Paladin had landed them but it definitely wasn't all that close to where they had started. "I think walking would probably be a somewhat better option from here on, not that that wasn't absolutely epic but I think I tend to do better on the ground. I'm not that familiar with the area so lead the way".

The newly christened Frank moved as if he was making noises at the growing crowd, though of course no sound came out owing to his lack of vocal chords. The skeletons had odd habits like that, adopting general mannerisms of the animal they had once been even when it made little sense. "I like that. Frank it is".
Ah yes, here was the bit Menagerie had been nervous about. It wasn't that she was especially shy, as she wasn't, but that it was rather an odd feeling to walk out and have literally everyone look at you. She couldn't really blame them, even in a city with a very active Hero Program, actually seeing Heroes never failed to be rather impressive, though she still failed to understand the celebrity hero craze. Not that she had ever understood the concept of celebrities in the first place.
Menagerie took a quick look around giving a little wave before returning her attention to Paladin. Frank clenched more tightly to her costume as she slipped her own gloved hand into Paladin's "I suppose I will". Menagerie hadn't a clue what the other Hero was going to do, but she most certainly planned on finding out.

People had had a few reactions to Menageries skeletons before. Some were disgusted or horrified, and some impressed and awed, but so far the kind of reaction she hadn't encountered and had been expecting the very least was having her creatures called 'cute'. It was rather nice actually to have somebody, once they got over the inevitable shock that would naturally come from seeing an animate skeleton, who didn't find them incredibly off-putting. Menagerie was still maintaining the impish smile, the skeleton stretching slowly and crouching down with it's head facing Paladin "I'm really glad you think so, it creeped me the hell out first few times I did this honestly" She seemed taken aback by the question "Name? Well he... she?... it?... whatever, has only been a coherent thing instead of a scattered bunch of bones for about a minute, so no name. Doubt the squirrel had one when alive either. I can only bring up animal skeletons from within a few miles so it's not like I have that constant a supply of the same ones. Even if I stay still enough for that there are hundreds of squirrels all over the place, hard to keep track really"
Menagerie certainly would have named her skeletons, but there was such a minimal chance she would bring the same one up more than once or twice that it seemed rather a futile endeavor, especially for something as common as squirrels.
Stay on me.
The squirrel climbed around her arm onto her shoulder. While not precisely alive, the skeletons had always shown an ability to determine how to follow her instructions, although her testing had shown they would do nothing but stand there if given no instructions. "You can certainly come up with one if you want though." After all, he was within range to be brought up right around the Hero Program building, she might be able to keep him.

Megan certainly still needed to get used to spending time around other people with powers. The armor-clad hero literally vanishing into thin air caught her very off guard. She made a little 'eep' sound before recovering to get into normal clothes, returning to the lobby in athletic pants and a rather faded purple t-shirt. There were a great many people milling about so she started looking around.
Her searching the lobby was rather fruitless for a quite simple reason- there were a lot of twenty-somethings of average height with brown hair, whereas in her entire time in the building she had only seen two others with red dyed hair, both entirely different reds as well. Fortunately, the other hero still managed to find her alright, and while she could have spent hours flutily staring at people with similar features to Celerity, from this close it was a fairly sure identification. The smile was certainly the quickest identifier, she had one of those faces that it was hard to picture without a smile plastered across it.
Giving an impish grin she replied "I'm Megan, and I do believe I asked someone who looked rather like you about that. Have to say I'm not really much of a coffee person, but there's plenty of places around here with both that and the kind of things I usually go for. It's good to meet you Kathy."

Menagerie walked into the elevator slightly awkwardly, while she'd trained a little to get used to it she was still not quite acclimated to the different weight distribution she had in armor. "Fine, fine" she said in an exaggeratedly exasperated tone, never ceasing her impish grin "I'll do sparring some time, just don't expect me to be any good at it". She certainly was relatively in shape, but she was by no means that strong or durable, her strategy was always going to be to try and avoid fighting with her own body if possible. She had of course seen the lobby on the way in but somehow it was even more impressive on the way down through the transparent wall of the elevator. Having such an extensive lobby seemed something of a waste of space, but it undeniably made an impression. The entire building had a feeling of absolute hugeness that the lobby only really was a small part of. Menagerie was shaken from contemplation by Paladin's question "It's not that, though I have to admit that's a pretty cool idea that someone should make a book or something about, I'm perfectly willing to give a demonstration, It'll just probably be easier outside though, I'd rather not damage anything in here if I can help it" At that the elevator doors opened into the lobby. She rushed across the lobby, eager to give the demonstration. This did in fact turn a couple of heads though almost certainly this was just because she was a new arrival. Or maybe that she was walking so fast in a way that utterly clashed with her outfit's impression... nah, it had to be that she was new. Upon exiting she quickly moved to the nearest spot of exposed dirt. While she could do this anywhere she had found that it very slightly deformed the ground it had been done to, which was no problem with dirt or sand but would be with a floor or road. Concentrating on filtering out all the background noise and sensation Menagerie solely focused on the sort of dull buzzing she got in her mind constantly telling her the number and size of local skeletons. She focused on a small signal, one she was very familiar with from the number of times she'd raised one before. As she focused onto it specifically the ground fell flat like it was made of water, and floating up from it came dozens upon dozens of tiny yellow-white bones, she held her hands palms up and in them the bones shifted and locked together, within a few seconds she had a tiny skeleton in her palms. Turning around it climbed over her fingers to the edge of her hand as she turned to show it to Paladin. "Here we are... it's a squirrel if you couldn't tell."

Megan certainly knew some people with the sort of exhilarated energy Kenzi had- the was one of them in fact. But absolutely nobody she knew took it to the extent this teenager did, quite this level of boundless enthusiasm. The effect of being around it was like being injected with caffeine.
"All true. Certainly some people can do a lot with very few words, but there's a lot of value in letting your train of thought go on and see what sorts of sights it takes you to, so to speak". She was correct that talking to her felt like the verbal equivalent of a machine gun, but unlike some people who did that there was no real malice, she simply had a great deal to say and wanted to make sure it all was said. "Everyone sees the world at least a little bit differently, and most people you meet will have seen and done some things you never had, so it makes sense."
She gave a soft smile at being asked about her work, answering the questions in order. "I did voices for a couple minor characters on some animated shows and for some video games. As for the rest of the questions they kind of are all part of the same answer. Yeah it was kind of odd not being physically present, but I felt like that may have helped me get into character more because it didn't matter what I looked like, because the end result would be me looking perfectly like the character. I do have to admit I kind of waved my hands around like crazy while doing it even though I don't normally gesticulate,"
Megan laughed at the explanation Kenzi gave for her ability "I will repeat, that is very cool. I'm really glad you don't want to have a career in stealth because you would be terrifyingly good at it. What kind of art do you do? I have to confess to not being an expert in visual arts but I do know there's a lot of variety within it." her laugh came back instantly at the admission of 'bulldozing' "It's alright, I was warned and right now you have a lot you want to say- I'm not going to get upset about that."
Having mostly been sitting still the whole conversation, the skeleton stood up as Megan turned back to it, giving it her signature sort of impish grin "A Dire Wolf if I'm not mistaken, feel free to pet it. Can it think or feel? That's actually quite a good question. I can't just manipulate bones, I can only put them back together into these skeletons, and they follow my mental or verbal instructions without fail and just sit there idly if I haven't given them any, but on the other hand they do seem to choose the best way to follow my instructions if they're not that specific and otherwise act like they were a living animal that I was controlling. My best guess is they do have a bit of a mind, but it's sort of an unconscious extension of mine rather than a totally independent one". she had the wolf take a few steps to close the remaining distance between it and Kenzi. "Well since I've had him, or her its hard to tell most of the time with skeletons, for all of a few minutes no name yet. I don't usually get to hang on to them for all that long so I usually don't name them."

Menagerie was by no means a very shy person, and her own sort of excited energy usually seemed to fill the room, but it seemed to be drowned out by the sheer enthusiasm of the other Hero. "Makes sense Heroes would need to know each other now that I think about it, glad you like my costume but I think yours has a sort of classic elegance to it... maybe it's just that I like purple."
Considering how intense the job of being a Hero was, it seemed surprising that somebody who had been doing it for so long remained so chipper and upbeat, but maybe that was the point. In hard circumstances people with energy and excitement helped everyone do better, she'd known she'd had that affect on some people in Film School. Shaken from that thought by seeing Paladin across the hall- how does she walk so fast?- scurrying to follow her to the elevator "Ah, I really do not think sparring would be too great an idea. Not the intensiveness but I'm uh, not very physically strong by any means. Be happy to join for your patrol though." she kept cursing her sudden strange bursts of social anxiety. Oddly enough she felt slightly less confidant as Menagerie then as herself, more unsure of who she was and what people would think about and expect of her. She figured she would probably get over this soon enough but it did make meeting other Heroes a challenge. Still, she supposed that Paladin had almost certainly had far worse first meeting issues than a bit of nerves. "Well as far as I'm aware neither of us can fly so I imagine if we're going on patrol than exiting from the ground level would be ideal." she said with a chuckle.

She had certainly walked out to quite the sight. Even if you didn't really follow the news, the Hero who Menagerie had walked out to find standing there was unmistakable, there simply was no avoiding the name Paladin these days. Though the iconic Hero was fairly tall and only seemed to fill even more of the room from the excited buzz she seemed to have, from this close up even with a mask covering a lot of her face Menagerie realized she couldn't be much if any older than she was, which felt a bit odd.
Menagerie tried to return the wink, quickly realized that a mask covering everything from her lips up made this a poor idea, and settled for a playful smile instead. "Join you for what? The answer will probably be yes but it'd be rather foolish to agree to something if I didn't know what it was". She vigorously took up the offered handshake. Then despite the fact that Paladin was one of the most recognizable people In the nation and couldn't possibly have been oblivious enough to not know that, she still introduced herself. This certainly brought up the new Hero's opinion of her. She had of course previously held a positive opinion of Paladin on a more general level, but knowing how somebody acted around others from personal experience was another matter.
"I... did sort of recognize you, but great meeting you regardless. I'm still rather surprised that I'm here, but I'm certainly glad for it. What brings you to be here seeing me Paladin?"

Megan had never been a huge fan of elevators, though the reason why was admittedly rather ridiculous even to her. When she was a little kid she had never liked the way elevator doors opened, always scared something would jump out from behind them. While this was no longer an issue she had to admit that she got a sense of claustrophobia in elevators she didn't get in any other enclosed spaces. "I get that. When it comes down to it even if not everybody is ideal, it doesn't hurt to have more hands on deck" she listed carefully to his advise about identities. Megan never liked keeping secrets but at least ensuring you could trust the other person was a good precaution. Besides while her hair was tied back when in costume it still was dyed bright red, and while people with that color hair were not that rare, there couldn't be that many who went on private tours of the Hero Program building.
Emerging into the hall, she replied "Ah yes, I think I can find it." Changing room was, as it turned out, not a bad description. While slightly larger then the average changing area in a store it had a very similar feel to it, probably just a natural result of having a room with a purpose as specific as putting on clothing. Megan opened up the rather conspicuous container, taking out a chalky white suit of light body armor. The bottom layer was a somewhat onesie-like underlayer of some very elastic sort of material, and attached over the top everywhere save joints was stark white plates of some sort of thick plastic. Just as accents along the limbs but making up the chests main material was plates of bone. It was far from the most flattering sort of outfit, but not only did it fit, it certainly helped that like most non-human puppeteers she was vulnerable to being attacked directly. Avoiding getting a hit would of course be the goal, but she felt far better knowing she had some protection. The final item left was her mask, a helmet-like cover for all of her head save her mouth and chin, and a small area of her pinned-back hair.
Walking out of the changing room after taking a minute to adjust to the suddenly different weight distribution, she called out playfully "All right, Menagerie is all suited up and ready to go!" before stepping out.

As I have huge amounts of concepts for characters from my own in-progress superhero story I've decide to put in a list of characters I think would be interesting to have on this site but that I'm not interested in playing. If you want to change any part of what's written here please do tell me, I'll probably allow it. Anything I don't write is fair game for you to pick. I may add to this list over time, for now I'll start with a pick of some varied sorts. Last Updated: 6/19/21 All Face Claims are your pick. [NAME AND GENDER OPEN] / Palisade (Vigilante) - Spike CreationThis is the character with the most freedom, it's their story that's got a bit of detail. Their power to cause surfaces to reshape in a way that effectively is equivalent to forming a spike of any size projecting from any flat surface. They originally were a villain under the name Shrike, but after some bad encounters with others villains they chose to become one of the vigilantes that had been causing them so many problems before. Getting an entirely new costume and renaming themselves Palisade still hasn't prevented many people from realizing the truth however, and their past as Shrike seems determined to continue haunting them. ( I have some more specific ideas, so feel free to contact me). Catherine Gautier (Student) - Energy AbsorptionA relatively friendly but troubled young woman with a habit of stealing things (usually she gives them back because she didn't need them to begin with). Catherine's body can absorb most forms of energy, slightly enhancing her physically for a time. It works best on electricity and radiation (which includes wireless signals, radio waves, and similar forms of signal), she's in EMBA after a few too many times of losing control and causing a blackout. Hannah [Surname Undecided/Open] (Civilian) - Predictive ModellingA young member of one of the more minor less-involved-in-politics groups of the Families, Hannah comes across as very detached like many members of the Families, but in an entirely different way. Hannah's mind is almost constantly running complex simulations of potential futures, she can more accurately predict large scale events and is generally more accurate about the nearer future, though communicating the results of this is challenging for her. Able to see almost everything that could happen, she has a tendency to refer to events that never happened, act like she's met people before when she hasn't, and generally seem slightly removed from what actually is happening. Even for a fairly friendly person like Megan, some people are clearly not anyone one wants to spend more time with then needed, and Loquacious was almost immediately falling under that umbrella for her. He was clearly trying to be friendly but he was loud in personality as well as voice in a way that was rather off-putting. Still, even if his best efforts at friendliness were not very great, she gave him credit for at least making the attempt. "Night clubs and sound brands that, well, I suppose that makes sense"
She just about managed to avoid rolling her eyes at the arguments about branding. With Dominic's general friendliness she could see why people would rather talk to him, but deliberately asking him to do somebody else's job wasn't the smoothest of moves by any means. Normally not a very quiet person, Megan stayed quiet until he left, feeling the room had enough sounds in it without her help. "Interesting indeed. I've met less tolerable people, though I can't really say he's going to be anywhere near my top picks of any type among Heroes unless there were very few other options" this was her somewhat roundabout way of saying that she definitely didn't like him, but didn't really dislike him much either. She perked up again when Dominic mentioned another meeting. Even the relatively uncomfortable previous meeting had been rather exciting if for no other reason then she had yet another good example of power-personality connection for whenever she got down to thinking more about this "Oh yes, I made sure about that ahead of time. It's a reinforced outfit lined with bone weighting a bit over ten pounds. Not the sort of thing you just leave lying around" she was curious why it was needed though considering the previous part had been out of costume. Perhaps the encounter with Loquacious had reminded him that it was rather odd for him to be seen giving a tour to freelance voice actor Megan Daniels of all people. Honestly she would have suspected herself as an out-of-costume hero in that circumstance. Such a number of metahumans in the world meant most probably were also the sort of people that if their identity was revealed the most common reaction would be 'who's that?'. The secrecy still had its comforts even for someone who didn't really have much to gain from it though, as she knew that she could always fall back into the other role to be safe if one was in danger. People didn't tend to target individual cops or such when not on duty, but they didn't get the kind of publicity heroes did.

Megan wasn't the most obvious choice for the Hero Program and she knew it. She was easy to distract, had low respect in authority, and a power that most people found terrifying. However it did seem that Dominic and whoever it was in the program that first noticed her though she had the right qualities, and that wasn't the sort of opportunity to be passed up on without a very good reason. She hadn't lived in California long, knowing of only a few heroes here outside those famous throughout the country. Still from what she did know the sheer range of powers in existence was quite remarkable, and she did of course still have to conduct more research or her noting that most metahuman's powers compliment their personality.
For all these reasons Megan was quite interested in taking a tour of the building, not even mentioning the practical need to know where things are. "Still not used to being called Menagerie and I'm the one who thought of the name" she mused after Dominic gave his assistant instructions. The next room looked like something out of TV show, with people watching what very well seemed to be every broadcast in the city. the sight was dizzying, albeit not quite as much so as the costumed man who approached them next. He clearly had either never heard of the concept of an inside voice or he regarded it as some sort of joke, by volume alone his words fit the bill of shouting, though she also strongly suspected this was his normal speaking voice. The costume was it's own sort of odd... was that a speaker? She though maybe it would be better not to focus on that for now.
Whatever Megan had expected him to want to talk to Dominic about, headphones would not have made her list. To be honest his suit kind of looked like a fancy pair of headphones somehow expanded to cover the entire body. She was introduced gave him a wave saying "Hello there. As stated I'm Megan, good to meet you?" the last part ended up sounding more like a question. He was looking at her in a way that she didn't quite recognize but definitely made her uncomfortable "Oh yes, most definitely something"

While she had seen some videos and heard or read a few things about Celerity, the sheer exuberance and brightness was still rather startling, though of course completely welcome. Hero seemed to be one of the sorts of jobs so demanding that many people who stick with it do it from loving the work, not surprising considering it combined the peril and high stakes of failure that come with law enforcement jobs with the difficulties that come from being publicly well-known figures.
Megan laughed at Kathy's comment about her schedule. "Yeah, that's true, and pretty cool to be honest. It always interests me to hear about when someone uses a power to perform some utterly mundane task in an awesome way. Like, say, delivering a package from New York to San Francisco is usually not the most exciting thing, but doing it in seconds is pretty crazy." Having the attitude of some sort of almost Disney-type mentor figure seemed rather odd for someone who couldn't have been much older then her, but she decided to go with it. Thinking about it actually a lot of famous heroes seemed quite young. Of course it was hard to surmise an age from someone in costume, but that was her rough guess, and the one hero she (or just about anybody for that matter) could name with a public identity was slightly younger than her. She supposed that made sense in such a recently formed program but it still felt odd.
"Sounds good, see you then" Megan retreated to get changed. Looking at her outfit in the mirror, it was certainly made with a very different sort of design philosophy than the one Celerity's used. There was some styling and slightly closer than strictly necessary cuts to give it a distinctly feminine shape, but it wasn't precisely flattering and had the advantage of lightly armoring someone who otherwise had no advantages over a normal human in taking hits. Of course sufficiently fast or agile heroes didn't need to worry about that. Her mask covered almost her entire head, save a small gap in the chin for easier breathing. Megan's skin reddened and burned easily and she didn't want to get oddly distributed patterns of redness.
Taking a few moments to put her costume back into the box it had been in before and making sure her hair wasn't tangles together again, Megan stepped out into the lobby, moving to meet her fellow hero. She wondered if she'd recognize her. Maybe, after all domino masks really don't cover much of the face at all. Then again, people could be terrible at noticing these sorts of things.

Megan got up from the seat and stretched while Dominic closed up the session. Something about it had felt bizarrely like being analyzed by a therapist rather than a meeting about PR, but she supposed that might just be a lack of experience with the latter.
Overall she was certainly far more hopeful about her prospects in the program then when she came in. Maybe this could work out. Megan was sure she was far from the only person who had been too frightened of their power to use it, but maybe she could at least set groundwork to show that while what powers people got after the event were seemingly random (Privately Megan doubted this considering how often a person's powers seemed to fit some aspect of their personality), that wasn't a limit to which ones could do good things with those powers. I mean hey, if anyone could manage to make controlling skeletons look heroic it was probably the Hero Program's reputation and well run PR apparatus.
"That wasn't the look I dreamed of exactly, but I could do far worse then looking edgy. Costume design has always seemed to me at least a balance between showmanship and practicality, and I think my armor manages both." Then came what had to be one of the most exciting questions Megan had ever been asked, considering it's many implications about her immediate and long term future: Want me to see if anyone else is in right now?
"Oh, most certainly" she replied with an impish grin.
