Site canons are listed and updated here. If you have any questions about them, feel free to contact any member of the staff team. Face claims can be changed. A canon that has struck-through text is an NPC or has been taken and is no longer available. Enjoy! [nospaces][googlefont="Oswald:400"] [attr="class","colors-of-the-sky"] Heroes [attr="class","box"] [attr="class","header1"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]19. Léa Seydoux. Nosuchthing. [attr="class","name"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]Alice Morrow/Paladin [attr="class","main-content"] Alice, as Paladin, is one of the most famous individuals in America. A member of the Hero Programme at it's inception, her costumed form is frequently found splashed across billboards and her merchandise is worth millions of dollars a year. Despite all of this, she is relatively down to earth and uncomfortable with her fame. The fact that Hero identities are a federally protected secret offers her no end of relief.
Alice's ability is one of unusual power, but extreme limitation. She is capable of absorbing and redistributing kinetic energy apparently at will. This makes her virtually impervious to physical damage, while allowing her to release that same gathered energy for a variety of purposes, including leaping great heights, throwing heavy objects and lending her blows far greater power than any normal human.
[attr="class","box"] [attr="class","header1"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]34. Frederick Dierks Bentley. Calico. [attr="class","name"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]Mason Warner/Spectre [attr="class","main-content"] Prior to his inexplicable survival of a horror car crash, Mason could be described as an average guy in almost every way. Fate brought him to discover the truth about his suspected child – a secret that now lives on with a fellow Survivor – and gave him a brief taste of heroism before he lost his life attempting to halt the Event.
Mason’s ability rendered him completely invisible to others at all times. He was able to extend this field of invisibility to include objects and others within an extremely close range. He found it quite the isolating experience. [attr="class","box"] [attr="class","header1"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]26. Rooney Mara. REBEL. [attr="class","name"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]Claire Elliott/Ink [attr="class","main-content"] One of the original six survivors of the horrific crash that served as the Doctor's initial experiment leading to the event, Claire was never exactly keen on her life changing with the addition of super powers. If she could choose, she'd take the normal life she had before the tragedy. Though a bit reserved at times the graduate art student has a strong moral compass and, against what she'd prefer, now works for federal law enforcement while also undergoing testing to the extent of her abilities in the MNRU.
Claire's power stems from the large spirit dragon tattoo that covers nearly half of her back, giving her the embodiment qualities of the mythological creature itself. Though hardened, scale-like skin and birthing flames from her throat are useful, the most interesting is her ability to travel as an ethereal form while in a dream-like state.[attr="class","box"] [attr="class","header1"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]36. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Available [attr="class","name"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]Aaron Hunt/Tank [attr="class","main-content"]Currently one of the most feared Heroes in the Program, Aaron, as Tank, is known for his brutally efficient method of dealing with problems, namely, hitting it until it stops being a problem. With the highest kill rate of any Hero in the US, he is often a target of criticism. His past in a questionable military black operation means that he is used to being the scapegoat, with his current track record, it's only a matter of time before the politicians hang him out to dry.
Super humanly strong and tough, the alias Tank fits Aaron well. Bullets and blades will do little more than redden the skin, while his enhanced strength lets him punch through brick walls like plaster board. He is not invincible however, being vulnerable to high calibre bullets and struggling to lift much more than the weight of a motorbike or smart car.[break][break][break][break][break][break] The Families [attr="class","box"] [attr="class","header1"][attr="style","background-color:#DESIREDCOLOR;"]Unknown. Jodie Foster. NPC. [attr="class","name"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]The Doctor [attr="class","main-content"]The Doctor was an extremely old and powerful metahuman who had lived long enough to see both the best and the worst humanity has to offer. The instigator of 'The Event', she discovered how to reawaken the dormant meta gene, changing the world, and the human race forever.
With the ability to manipulate biology on a cellular level, The Doctor was one of the most potent metahumans to have been born in the last three hundred years. Her abilities were so great that she could extend her life indefinitely, heal any ailment, and even resurrect the freshly dead.[attr="class","box"] [attr="class","header1"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]Unknown. Ken Watanbe. NPC. [attr="class","name"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]Shimoto Nobunaka/The High Councillor [attr="class","main-content"]Nobunaka is the most feared metahuman in the world. Though his title is not an official one, there are none on the council who would openly cross him, and few indeed who would dare to try it in secret. Though not a harsh man he does not take kindly to betrayal, and with an influence that stretches across the planet he is not an enemy to be taken lightly. Unusually amongst the Council, he is devoutly Christian.
All metahumans rely on energy to fuel their powers, and Nobunaka relies upon it far more heavily than any other. Powers used in his vicinity will have no function, the energy that would have fueled them stolen away by his very presence. He acts almost as a battery, and can use that energy to boost his natural attributes, increasing his strength, speed and toughness far beyond their normal human levels. It has also enabled him to live far beyond his natural span of years, and he is the oldest known being in the world, though no one knows his true age.[attr="class","box"] [attr="class","header1"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]61. Swoosie Kurtz. Civilian. Available. [attr="class","name"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]Vanessa Keller / Gilt [attr="class","main-content"]A member of the council, hailing originally from Switzerland, she has extended her influence over much of Europe and is generally regarded as the European councillor. She is politically minded, and constantly looking for ways to expand her influence.
Like Midas, Vanessa can turn anything she touches to solid gold. The gold is chemically pure, and the change can take a matter of seconds even for relatively large objects. It can affect complex devices, though their functionality will cease as soon as the change spreads deep enough, fusing gears together and damaging delicate machinery.[attr="class","box"] [attr="class","header1"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]32. Henry Golding. Available. [attr="class","name"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]Harry [attr="class","main-content"]A member of the Families, Harry is what is known as a fixer. Employed by the American Councillor, he is often set to the task of maintaining the Councillor's less than legitimate interests. Set the mission of tracking down and stopping the Doctor, he failed, and is now considerably out of favour.
Harry possesses the ability to skim thoughts, though he cannot dive deeper into the minds of his targets, he can easily read the surface thoughts of most individuals. This makes him adept at ferreting out untruths and deceptively dangerous in combat.[break][break][break][break][break][break] SPADES [attr="class","box"] [attr="class","header1"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]32. Alecia Beth Moore (P!NK). REBEL. [attr="class","name"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]Yennefer Evgeniya/Queen of Spades [attr="class","main-content"]The Queen of Spades (and the Spades themselves) is thought by most to be a scare tactic, unreal, a conspiracy or urban myth meant to scare both authoritative powers and illegal powers on America's west coast. Those that know the of the Queen's existence are entirely unaware of her identity; some thinking the "Queen" is metaphorical for a group or council, maybe even a man. The even fewer that know Yennefer Evgeniya in the flesh say that a room stands still the moment she enters it - time, air, sound - until she declares differently. As the leader of the Spade mob, her vision is to correct the balance of natural selection.
Only a handful know what exactly it is that the Queen can do. Most have it chalked up to her obsession with the cartomancy meanings of the "Queen of Spades" ("example of power and authority, born leader, intent on self-mastery, senses the need to rise to the top, experiences deep fulfillment when answering their own call to greatness"). With no witness ever being able to quite describe what her power had come from or the extent of its affect, it seems mythological. Perhaps she derives powers from cartomancy itself? In reality, Yennefer is an incredibly adept and powerful psychokinetic.[attr="class","box"] [attr="class","header1"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]25. Margot Robbie. Villain. [attr="class","name"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]Adrijana Evgeniya/Heiress of Spades [attr="class","main-content"]The younger sister of the Queen of Spades is a study in contrasts to her more prominent sibling. Where Yennifer is coldly calculating, Adrijana is wild, unruly, and impulsive. She is, however, like her sister in one important way: the wants and needs of other people rarely, if ever, register as important for her. Recently released from prison for arson, she is in the process of exploring her darker impulses while doing her best not to go back...
Adrijana's powers let her generate fire, and then strengthen herself by proximity to the fire. She can create, shape, and control flame by the power of her will. Her powers also make her immune to harm from fire, heat and smoke- a quality she uses to smoke heavily without suffering any negative health effects.
[attr="class","box"] [attr="class","header1"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]21. Tinashe Kachingwe. [attr="class","name"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]Persephone Dean/Duchess [attr="class","main-content"]A favourite of the Queen of Spades, Persephone’s rise through the criminal underworld was a sharp twist from her early attempts at heroism as one of the six original Survivors. Persephone is a powerful asset to the Spades and oversees the production of plant-based materials and chemicals to further the cause. It is only a matter of time before the small spark of humanity within her either fades to nothingness… or begins to burn her from the inside out.
With an uncanny ability to tend for all plants, Persephone’s power allows her to intuitively grow, manipulate and combine them. The knowledge is hard-wired and inaccessible to others, and extends to the production of any number of poisons and potions. She is limited somewhat by accessibility of ingredients and degree of motivation but she is undoubtedly an extremely powerful metahuman. [attr="class","box"] [attr="class","header1"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]28. ScarJo. Villain. Available. [attr="class","name"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]Aleksandra Gray / Vampiress [attr="class","main-content"]Aleksandra hails from a Russian-American family that pledged allegiance years ago to the Queen of Spades in her pursuit of 'natural selection'; raising the underdogs with the potential to rule while tearing down the weak and undeserving in the upper class. The Grays were penniless when they immigrated, but now they share in the wealth of the Spade's mob thanks to both their loyalty and their occasional natural genetic power.
Aleksandra has earned the title "Vampiress" due to her carnal abilities. The blood of other human beings gives her great physical strength and speed - metahuman blood even more so - while draining power from the victim. She has no problems consuming from live catches and often enjoys the fear her nearly-mythological power causes in others. Aleksandra's alias and power are open to change if you have a neat idea![attr="class","box"] [attr="class","header1"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]40. Idris Elba. Villain. Available. [attr="class","name"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]Malachi Hendricks / Rook [attr="class","main-content"]Malachi Hendricks is arguably the most important member of the Spade mob. Not only is he the head of their security and retaliation departments, but also one of the most adept, experienced, and capable fighters within their entire ranks; and quite possible on this side of the Mississippi. Like the Queen, he is intimidatingly articulate and eloquent and exudes the idea of 'power'. Malachi 'Rook' is one of the closest Spades to Yennefer, probably the most trust-worthy, and has developed a comfortable relationship working towards their vision.
Rook's powers may vary depending on the application and are up for discussion with the staff. The power, as it is alluded above, should revolve mainly around hand-to-hand combat or possibly something to do with a specific weapon or firearms. His history should also include a vast amount of physical training (martial arts, possible military, etc).[break][break][break][break][break][break] Civilians [attr="class","box"] [attr="class","header1"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]52. Bryan Cranston. Available. [attr="class","name"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]Senator Matthew Carlyle [attr="class","main-content"] Staunchly metaphobic, Senator Carlyle is the man spearheading the charge against the new enemy of mankind, Metahumans. A staunch opponent of the Hero Program, Carlyle advocates the registration not just of Heroes, but of all metahumans as soon as their abilities manifest. Though his views currently appear to be that of a minority, he has managed to gather a not insignificant coalition around him. His fiery speeches and conservative views have garnered him a great deal of support among the many metaphobic groups across America.
[attr="class","box"] [attr="class","header1"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]28. Edi Gathegi. Nosuchthing. [attr="class","name"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]Dominic Weaver/Surge [attr="class","main-content"]Dominic is an ambitious and forward thinking young man who just happened to be in the right place at the right time. As one of the survivors he saw the paradigm shift coming before anyone else, and used that knowledge to help establish the Hero Program, and his company as the contractor for it's marketing and PR.
Dominic can channel and redirect electrical power. Though he cannot hold onto the energy for long, the power will rapidly dwindle unless he uses it shortly after absorbing it. He needs to have immediate access to a source of power in order to make use of his ability.
[attr="class","box"] [attr="class","header1"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]23. Kenan Thompson. Civilian. Available. [attr="class","name"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]Luca Carmichael [attr="class","main-content"]Some people would say that Luca likes Heroes. They would be wrong. Luca adores them. He now runs the biggest Hero fan site in the US, with nearly a million unique visitors a month. [attr="class","box"] [attr="class","header1"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]50. Viola Davis. Civilian. Available. [attr="class","name"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]Joyce Williams [attr="class","main-content"]Joyce is a well-respected expert in her field and currently leads the Meta-human Neurosciences Research Unit in San Francisco - the main centre of its kind in the United States. The government is extremely interested in how meta-human brains produce superhuman behaviours and Joyce shares this interest, albeit with an underlying motivation to learn how to replicate the most "useful" powers to produce the "next true step" in human evolution. She performs many experiments under the guise of helping meta-humans to understand and control their powers and is not concerned about burning out her subjects in the process. [attr="class","box"] [attr="class","header1"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]40. Mark Meer. Mortimer [attr="class","name"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]Will Chase/Overwatch [attr="class","main-content"]Will is a man of focus and drive. Unfortunately, he is also one of uncompromising morals; his inability to leave anything alone, combined with his power allowing him to more easily get involved in dangerous situations, has left him barely scraping by, a single paycheck away from homelessness and frequently going days on end without sleep. He is currently ‘working’ as a PI in San Francisco, but spends most of his time wandering the streets stopping crimes for no reward.
Will is a telepath of remarkable strength, limited primarily by his own self-destructive nature that regularly leaves him operating at only a fraction of his potential power. More than that, he is untrained and reluctant to experiment - while he is practised in certain areas, primarily reading minds, this leaves him unfortunately limited in his options even as he wields a power of almost unparalleled breadth. [attr="class","box"] [attr="class","header1"][attr="style","background-color:#DESIREDCOLOR;"]58. Bill Nighy. Civilian. Available. [attr="class","name"][attr="style","background-color:#;"]Eli Shaw [attr="class","main-content"]Eli Shaw is the Managing Partner of Shaw and Pearce, one of the biggest law firms in San Francisco. It is commonly believed that he represents the interests of the Queen of Spades, though no one has ever managed to tie the two together. The Hero Program The Hero Program was unveiled shortly after the Grand Central disaster, intended as a fully fledged, government funded and controlled response to the wave of super powered crime that had swept America after 'The Event'. It had been in development since Metahumans had first emerged into the spotlight, and was rushed into the public eye in response to the events in New York City. Though the Program is still relatively small, it makes up for it with extremely powerful metahumans and some of the best technology and support the Federal government can provide. They are keyed in to all police and emergency service channels in their city, as well as being on call for national emergencies. They can deal with normal crime, but are more frequently called in for metahuman situations. Initially there were plans for purpose built headquarters in every city, though this was clearly too ambitious. As it is, not every city officially has a Hero in residence, though major cities will often have several. Those cities without Heroes are served by those nearby, or by others transported in from greater distances. Hero identities are protected by the program, with the publishing of a Hero's identity being a federal offence. This has resulted in Hero identities being trademarkable, and many heroes can supplement their government salary with public appearances and licensing their appearance and names to products. It must be noted that Heroes are entirely a federal program, they have no jurisdiction in other countries. There are rumours that the government has acquired a number of metahumans that are employed in classified operations, but there is no evidence for such conclusions. The Families All metahumans before the Event were a member of the Families in some way. Though it is far from the Illuminati society that conspiracy theorists would have you believe exist in the shadows, people with powers would not have existed in hiding for so long without some form of organisation ensuring that they remained so.
Though metahumans are now common knowledge, the Families still operate mainly in the shadows, one single event unable to break the habits of centuries. They are insular, and the more integrated members still have little interest in helping outsiders. This can lead to friction, as the Families are still the foremost source and experts on metahumans and the phenomena associated with them.
Such organisation as can be found in the Families is limited, they have no real ranks, and certainly no military forces to speak of, while their resources and funding are provided by individual members as opposed to any sort of centralised treasury.
There is however, some form of centralised leadership and they operate under a degree of confederation. Known as the Council, this group of metahumans are generally regarded as the most respected members of the Families. Officially they have no real power, acting as guides rather than leaders, but to ignore them is to court disaster.
Each member of the Council is responsible for a different region of the world, and each possesses their own influences and resources in those locations. Some possess vast criminal empires, others have connections at the highest levels of government. There are as many politics within the Council as within any organisation, with different factions each with their own beliefs and agenda. The Spades Graffiti splayed on skyscraper billboards, banners hanging from cranes and pinned to train cars... The plain, black symbol has shown its head more and more in the public eye since The Event. For years, the Spades have sat on the metaphorical throne of the West Coast's economy, government, and crime. Now, word of the once-always-secretive empire has spread as an urban myth and would-be savior to some who cry out for those with the ability to overthrow and rule to do so. Some lower-ranked Spades or Spade impostors who often decorate their skin or clothing with the symbol are becoming more confident with their publicity and actions - though they have little to no connection with the powerful empire's actual inner-workings. Lead by the mysteriously unknown "Queen of Spades", the empire has become more than the behind-the-scenes powerhouse that it was: an evolutionary, revolutionary movement. RISE RISE is a small, tight-knit organization with a handful of supers and a seemingly endless supply of normal humans and money to throw at any problem. Their goals are unknown, as is their reach, but they have been known to operate throughout the country, and in territories owned by many major powers and players.
Their actions are generally violent, without regard for human life including those who work for them. They seem to be after children who display abilities, but without rhyme or reason.

MNRU - Metahuman Neurological Research Unit This San Francisco research centre was the first of its kind to be officially established and is endorsed by the United States government. The unit is led by Dr Joyce Williams, whose expert status in the field is well recognised even in these early stages of metahuman research. Its main focus is on how metahuman brains produce superhuman behaviours, but there are many strands within with a more psychiatric focus. The MNRU has good people working for it who are genuinely trying to help metahumans to control, manage and adjust to their powers and the many burdens that co-occur. Simultaneously, there are those at the MNRU with ulterior motives – including Joyce Williams herself, whose research is heavily classified. There are whispers of metahumans being held at the institute against their will in order to take advantage of their powers, but Dr Williams runs a tight operation and only a select few experiments are allowed to be made public knowledge. Security at the research unit is far higher than that of your average neuroscience centre due to the nature of its subjects. Parts of it, such as the mental health clinics, are more easily accessible, but the level of clearance required to reach the darker parts of the institute is nigh impossible to obtain unless you are a trusted colleague of Dr Joyce Williams herself. The Vault To imprison a truly powerful metahuman is no simple task. Some are strong enough to lift vehicles, others can melt steel beams with a glance. It became very clear very quickly that conventional prisons could not contain most of the metahumans of the criminal persuasion. The real problem lay in the wide variety of powers. How do you imprison a man who can walk through walls? The answer was a purpose built facility, in a well-chosen location. Death Valley. A metahuman may be able to walk through walls, but he cannot then survive the journey of thousands of miles across one of the most inhospitable landscapes known to man. The Vault, as it is known, is under an almost perpetual state of construction. Every metahuman power operates differently, and must be dealt with in a different fashion. One cell contains a set of enormous steel pylons, capable of withstanding hundreds of tons of force, fixed deep into the concrete so that a metahuman with superhuman strength cannot move even an inch. In some cases even such dramatic constructions cannot contain a metahuman. In this case there is little option other than to keep them under almost constant sedation. This could be during the construction of a purpose built cell, or it could be indefinitely, so potent are their powers. Though it has only been in operation for a matter of months, already the Vault is known amongst the population, though its location is a closely guarded secret. All of the guards are ex-military or intelligence, and there are number of powerful metahumans amongst their ranks, paid an enormous salary to stay in one of the most isolated installations ever constructed. EMBA - Evergreen Metahuman Boarding Academy A boarding school located in the state of Washington for metahumans aged 14-19. Metahuman abilities most commonly manifest in children in their teens, frequently at the height of puberty. This change in the human body leads to further changes that can set those children apart from humanity as a whole. Naturally this can lead to a wide variety of problems; it is difficult to ground someone that can phase through the wall of their room at will. It makes a difficult time for children even more challenging. Normal schools struggle to deal with these problems. None have the experience (and few have the money) that some metahuman children need to learn to control their powers. Naturally a solution was proposed; a school for young individuals with superhuman abilities, where they could learn to control them and be amongst their peers.

The Survivors start using their abilities to fight crime and are caught on camera.
The six miraculous survivors of the June 3rd crash developed miraculous abilities, and thanks to the drive of certain members of the group they began to undertake dangerous night time activities. Their powers make them something more than human, and they can make a difference, and they intend to.
Crime is a business, and those running the business did not take kindly to a bunch of clowns in strange suits interfering in their interests. The ensuing conflict came to the attention of local law enforcement and, of course, the media. When footage emerged of people exhibiting superhuman abilities it was initially dismissed as a hoax, until it became clear that this was something more. A national news crew caught one of the vigilantes on camera, and the world as we knew it changed.
The new 'heroes' were being heralded as a new step for humanity by some, as dangerous by others. The world polarised. Suddenly people were demonstrating abilities that had been thought possible only in science fiction. Why was this the first that had been seen of it?
The Event unlocks the latent metahuman abilities in a small minority of humans around the world and masked vigilantes emerge.
This confusion didn't last long, 'The Event' took place on the 24th of August. At first it was thought to be a chemical attack. Terrorism perhaps, or the first strike of a new war. Similar attacks were happening all over the globe however. Virtually no nation was spared. Then the changes started.
The majority of people were left unaffected, many died, a few, a rare few developed powers beyond human ken. More masked vigilantes emerged, and worse, criminals with metahuman powers.
Normal Police departments couldn't deal with this new wave of super powered crime. The official stance was that vigilantes were criminals, but with no other recourse most Police Departments turned a blind eye to the masked metahumans who patrolled the streets. Some Vigilantes became immensely popular, with corporations making use of their image and name to make millions in franchised products.
The situation was unsustainable; most, if not all of these vigilantes had no training, and little understanding of their own powers. Collateral property damage was only one factor, and before long insurance companies simply stopped paying out on damage caused by conflicts between masked metahumans.
Hundreds of people die in a confrontation between a vigilante and a villain, leading to the unveiling of the Hero Program.
It wasn't until May 2018 that things changed. A metahuman known only as Shockwave took over Grand Central Station in New York, trapping more than five hundred people and issuing a ransom demand to the State of New York. Negotiations were ongoing when a vigilante entered the scene. The ensuing fight collapsed part of the main concourse and three platforms. Three hundred people died.
Less than a week later the Government passed a number of new laws, increasing the penalties for vigilantism and those that turn a blind eye to it. The next day they unveiled their solution to the crisis. The Hero Program was a government funded, federal program that would combat so called 'super-villains' with trained and registered metahumans.
This program had been under development since the early days following the event, and was promoted and introduced by a combination of governmental and public PR companies, including Ascendant on the west coast.
Some vigilantes disappeared, choosing to hang up the mask, others were recruited into the growing Hero Program. Some attempted to continue as they had been doing and found themselves rapidly tracked down by the full might of the federal government.

Admin - I run the site, I'm responsible for most of the world building that has taken place so far. I have the final say on character applications and power limits.[break][break] [attr="class","subheading2"]about me
I love super heroes, I always have. That's great if you are into comic books but I never had the money or a nearby store which would have allowed me to take up such an expensive hobby. Super hero movies might be popular right now but they are still limited and good super hero fiction is damned hard to find. The best solution for that was to write my own, but much as I love telling stories I don't want to be the only one. A site like this seemed the obvious solution. NoSuchThing's second-in-command. I do some of the more geeky, technical stuff that he doesn't know how to, some of the arty stuff and can also approve character applications.[break][break] [attr="class","subheading2"]about me
Creating stories has been my go-to favourite activity since I was first old enough to put pen to paper. I used to write in the Sims community but Only Super is my first foray into the world of roleplay. Magic and fantasy have always charmed me and I love bringing characters to life in a realistic, complex manner and watching them interact with everyone else's creations, so I'm very happy to be a part of this site! I've been RPing for yeeears and I've always been drawn to throwing realistic people into otherwise unrealistic situations (apocalypse/space/powers/etc) because it truly never changes how human those situations become. It's such a fun thing to play with. Doesn't hurt that I'm a huge Marvel nerd and probably the world's biggest Iron Man fan. I'm an actress, artist, and gamer in RL. Fun-loving, free-living gal. Roleplay Moderator - Any issues in the roleplay section, they're my job to deal with. Godmodding, poor quality spam posts, basically anything that breaks the rules in the posting section of this thread is my responsibility.[break][break] [attr="class","subheading2"]about me
I've always been the type that loves stories. From books, to games, to films, I love narratives of all kinds, and from that starting point it was very easy to fall into roleplaying. I love creating a character and letting them loose in a world, and I love the way that stories seem to come alive, the way that after writing a character for long enough it starts to feel like they are more than just your creation, but a person in their own right. It is for that reason that when NoSuchThing offered me a place on this site, I jumped at the chance to take part. In order for RPers to keep track of what your character might do we have created a set of groups in order to make this easier. Which group you are placed in is not defined by morals. There can be Villains who are doing it all for a good cause, but that does not change the fact that they are still a Villain. Equally, there can be Heroes who are only in it for the money and adulation, they set up situations to deliberately show them in the best light. They are still employed by the Government as Heroes however.
Heroes
Heroes are the government’s response to the wave of super powered crime that swept the globe after the event. They receive a small government salary, in addition to funding supplied for costumes and necessary equipment. Unless you rise to popularity in the public eye, it is not a lucrative job. Heroes are primarily responsible for metahuman crime, but can be called in to assist the more mundane authorities with other difficult situations.
As with any new career in the public eye, companies and people have flocked to the opportunity for profit. The most successful Heroes are idolised like celebrities or star athletes. They gain merchandising contracts, toys made in their image, even comic books and TV shows. It is not a career for the faint hearted however. Heroes are frequently asked to lay their lives on the line and it is a high pressure job.
Vigilantes
It is difficult to become a Hero. That, and not everyone agrees with the idea behind it. Some argue against it on principle, others simply don’t like the idea of having to answer to someone else. Nonetheless, some of these people still want to make their own difference in the world. These people might not qualify for the Hero program, or might simply be opposed to the whole concept, but they still want to help people.
This group are the Vigilantes. They fight crime, but are not government sponsored or approved. In fact, they are federally recognised as criminals, as vigilantes have been for years previous. To fight crime without government and state approval is to take the law into your own hands, and there are very clear laws and precedents set regarding this.
Vigilantes can be almost, if not more successful than heroes, although without the advantage of being able to tie their identity into the merchandise rights that Heroes can. Many companies will still profit on the actions and images of these figures, though there are no real copyright laws applied.
Villains
Not everyone wants to help people. Some are only in it for profit, or chaos, or simply for fun. These are the Villains. The existence of this group of people is one of the prime reasons and justifications for the Hero program. When metahumans get involved in crime the body count can be high, and with particularly powerful metas there is little that ordinary law enforcement can do besides slow them down. Villains are not necessarily evil - they can be perfectly pleasant - just as Heroes are not necessarily good. It is their life of crime which defines a Villain above all else.
Civilians
Everybody else. Not everyone has a power, and not everyone who does uses it to fight (or commit) crime. Only a fraction of the population are metahuman, which leaves billions more who possess no powers of their own. Even those with powers can choose not to use them, or to use them simply for profit instead of as a Hero, Vigilante or Villain. A man with power over the weather might make a good living selling his services to holiday resorts and theme parks, while a man that can walk through walls might not be interested in fame and glory but rather in saving people as a fireman. This group is the most broad and includes everything from perfectly normal people to metahumans who are terrified of using their own abilities.
Students
This group has been specifically created for the students of Evergreen Metahuman Boarding Academy - a specialist 14-19 provision for young metahumans. Characters from other groups may be also be in education but not classed as "Students" as this specifically refers to EMBA pupils.
