i wake at the first cringe of morning and my heart's already sinned It was the second time that someone had referred to her nickname as being cute which was rather interesting to Keaira. as she'd met several girls with similar sounding nicknames to her own. In all honestly, she'd always thought that Keke seemed rather plan in comparison to names like Kenzi or Melody. Truthfully, the brunette was somewhat surprised that she hadn't been named something like Sage or Karma with her mother being who she was. What was even more surprising was that Kenzi had never crossed paths with any Keiras as that was a rather common mispronunciation of her name. Still, it felt nice to have her individuality acknowledged. Although if the sixteen year old was being truly honest, her name was likely the most normal thing about the teen.
While the technopath was the furthest thing from an attention seeker, Kearia could hardly say that her presence often went without notice. She was simply too "weird" to ignore, Keke guessed. It had always been something of a habit of the teenager's to inquire about names that she found unique in nature as she adored names that had a meaning to them or intriguing origins something that she suspected her own name had neither. Keaira arched a brow as she inquired "Do you mean in real life? I'm pretty sure that there is an actress that's pretty well known named Keira something or other. I don't mind Keke though. People around here rarely call me by my full name. Keke is just easier I guess."
Kenzi had declared herself as an artist, which had simply confirmed for Keaira that the smudge on the girl's face was indeed some form of paint. Although she hadn't wanted to stare at the discoloration on the other girl's face as she hadn't wanted to be rude or even point it out in fear that her potential new friend might take offense. Still, Kenzi didn't seem to be bashful about the splotches on her face at all. Nodding her head, the brunette replied "Yes, actually you do have something just there. Were you working on something just before you came to class?" Kenzi's declaration that spatial recognition was a significant part of being an artist made logical sense to the sixteen year old. Particularly in terms of memorization.
Grinning, she nodded her head in agreement, she replied "Well, remind me to ask you next time I get turned around. I suppose that if you want to do it just for the sake of being functional then a traditional directional way would be best even if a bit boring. But, if you are simply using it as a muse to expand upon your innate creativity then yes I could see why you'd think it boring. " It wasn't actually until Kenzi further explained the nuance sof her ability did Keaira actually notice that the teacher seemed to be ignoring their conversation entirely much to the mystification of their classmates. Beaming, the sixteen year old added "That's really cool. Is any part of your power innate or do you have full control of when you sense attention, divert, it or direct it? Meeting other kids with abilities is always so fascinating to me. Especially meeting those who have some control over it and have developed it to amazing heights."
Flashing Kenzi a radiant smile, Keaira lifted her notepad from her desk and presented it to the dark haired girl next to her. People rarely showed any interest in her artistic endeavors. She was really starting to like this girl, Keke mused as she said "No, I don't mind at all. Most people that I meet think that poetry and stuff like that is boring so I'm not really used to people wanting to read it. Those that do sometimes just don't get it. This one specific is just strange things that pop into my head from time to time." TAG: @user | WORDS: ### | NOTES: HERE MEL @ ADOXOGRAPHY

i wake at the first cringe of morning and my heart's already sinned To those that knew her best, Keaira's scholastic aptitude was rather astonishing when one took into account that the brunette suffered from a rather short attention span. While it was certainly no feat to obtain Keke's attention, maintaining it was a different matter altogether. Even when participating in a steady conversation, her mind would venture off prompting her to abruptly switch topics. The sixteen year old contributed this character flaw to her simply being an energetic and creative being whom disliked having her energy contained for too long.
In fact, the only time that the teen felt even remotely bothered by her struggles with focusing her attention was when someone inexplicably became upset about it. Which thankfully, didn't appear to be the case with Kenzi. The dark haired girl eagerly grasped her hand and shook it as she continued on to explain her name in greater detail. Nodding her understanding, the teenager answered "I like it. It....suits you. It's actually sounds kind of exotic and is quite the departure from Andrea and Robb. I wonder how they came about it. I'm an only child, so my mom only had one chance to get mine right and personally I think she nailed it. I have met a thousand Keiras, but no other Keairas so far."
As an amused smile crept across Keaira's face she added "Spatial recognition is your specialty eh? Maybe I should be asking you to show me around then." Perhaps one of the most fascinating aspects of attending a school in which everyone possessed some form of special abilities was determining what everyone can do and how they did it. Keke, in particular was always curious about the hows and the whys. While the technopath realized that keeping her focus was difficult for her, Keaira at least liked to believe that she had mastered the art of appearing to still be engaged in whatever it was that she'd lost interest in. This was highly unlikely to work with Kenzi and for some reason this intrigued the sixteen year old.
"You can sense peoples' attention. Is that a natural talent or is that your ability? If its your ability then can you just sense it or can you somehow manipulate it as well," Keaira inquired. Before Kenzi could respond to her questions, the teacher called out her name which prompted the dark haired girl to shift her attention to their instructor. Her classmate's response was actually quite boisterous in nature eliciting quite the amused response from their peers. Their teacher, on the other hand, was a little less than impressed to say the least. Not that irking the teacher seemed to phase Kenzi much.
Keke giggled a little as Kenzi implied that their instructor was a bit on the uptight side. Nodding, she replied "Yeah maybe a little." Keaira's cheeks tinged pink as Kenzi asked about what she'd been scribbling in her notebook. Gesturing to the notepad, she questioned "Oh? This? It's just some poetry that I've been working on. Nothing special really. Just got to get this thoughts down as they come so that I don't lose them."

❝ There's a hope that's waiting for you in the dark
From a culinary standpoint, Keaira had always prided herself on being rather open-minded. Particularly, when it came to junk food as her mother's commitment to healthy eating didn't allow for such indulgences. Keke had always found it rather amusing how relatively simple things such as pizza toppings could spark heated debates between friends. Not that their current discussion constituted as a heated debate of course. With a casual shrug, the brunette replied to Melody's pondering " It's the pineapple more than anything. Some just find the concept of pineapples on pizza disgusting. One of my friends in particular found it to be absolutely revolting. Of course she didn't like cooked fruit in any capacity. No apple pies or turnovers, or peach cobblers. She was a really interesting girl."
While it had never been the sixteen year old's intention to be a troublemaker, the teen had never been shy about speaking her mind. Especially when she determined something to be unjust. As such protests and petitions had always been in her wheelhouse so to speak. Initially, Keaira had been rather disappointed to discover that her classmates were completely disinterested in activism. Particularly, if it didn't impact them directly. Over time, Keke had ceased expecting any interest to be garnered in any of her projects. Which was likely why the brunette was a bit floored when Ed offered to assist her in putting it together. Shooting Ed a dazzling smile, Keaira responded "Come to think of it, I could use some help with the research portion. Maybe we could meet up after classes just before dinner."
As Melody declared that her primary prerequisite for pizza to simply be that meat was included an image popped into Keke's mind as to how Melody would survive dinners at her house. The thought alone was enough to prompt a chuckle from the brunette. Keaira had actually be pondering inviting Melody over for dinner perhaps during a break when her phone buzzed. Shifting in her seat, Keke dug her phone out of the bag and glanced down at the text message that Ed sent. Having known quite a few boys that had pierced their ears as it was actually a common fashion statement in the US, Keaira was a bit puzzled as to why Ed considered it a secret. Still, if it was something that not many people knew or that he hadn't told anyone at all it could be classified as a secret.
Nodding in acknowledgement to Ed, Keaira answered with a smirk " That will do.... for now." The idea of ordering three pizzas seemed to go over rather well with Ed and Melody as Melody seemed keen on mixing and matching save for her own of course which would likely be consumed by her alone. It wasn't the first time that Keke had been referred to as a weirdo and likely wouldn't be the last. Not that the term bothered her as the sixteen year old delighted in her eccentricity. Laughing softly, the teen countered " Your loss. More for me then. I might just get a pizza with only mushrooms. Cooked mushrooms aren't slimey. Spoiled mushrooms on the other hand...."
Bringing the conversation back to how they were going to pull off their pizza party, Keaira mused over Melody's inquiry. " Talking to the security cameras so that they won't pick us up wandering down the halls should be a breeze. Unlocking the doors could be a different matter entirely depending on distance. With any luck the cameras and locks are linked which means I will just have to take down one instead of both. I can get past encryptions. It is trickier and may take more time."

You should know you're beautiful, just the way you are Keaira was late. Later than she'd ever been to anything in the course of her adolescent life. Keke had overslept, a consequence of her poor decision to partake of an additional cup of chamomile tea instead of her single nightly one. While the brunette was vaguely aware of the existence of a memo regarding ballet class, because Madam Tia really did love her memos, there hadn't been enough time to read it before leaving for class. Keaira had selected a forest green camouflage print crop top with solid green capri pants and a pair of brown combat boots. She'd drawn her dark tresses back into a rather loose French braid before grabbing her duffel from the bed and darting out the door.
As the technopath dashed down the corridor, Keaira briefly considered delaying the final bell to give her more time but immediately decided against it as she figured that if the order of this class was in anyway similar to the last one then most likely they would still only be doing stretches. Which the sixteen year old felt to be a moot point for herself as her leg muscles felt fairly stretched after having practically ran all the way to class from her dorm room. The teenager took a few minutes to catch her breath before entering the ballet studio. Much to her surprise, the class seemed to be gathered in one corner of the room with most of the students looking extraordinarily uncomfortable.
So much for sneaking in the back, Keaira thought to herself as her dark orbs scanned the crowd seeking familiar faces. Locating Ed and Melody tucked snugly into the corner seemingly with no intention of moving on their accord, Keke shuffled over to them. With her facial expression being the very definition of perplexity, the brunette inquired " Hey guys. So, what's going on here?" However, before Keaira could receive her answer, a lanky girl whom to Keke's mind seemed to be awkwardness personified, spoke out indicating that she was willing to go first. Go first in doing what, the brunette wondered. What the hell had she just walked into?
Keaira's gaze shifted from Ed's face to Melody's whose bright orbs seemed to gleam with mischief even while her voice dripped with sarcasm as she wished the girl. Keaira shot Melody a look that seemed to say "Seriously, Mel?" Keke's gaze drifted over to the volunteer as she offered her what she hoped to be both a friendly and encouraging smile. Wordlessly, the teen was doing her best to communicate to the newcomer that she was rooting for her to do well, in.... well whatever it was that they were supposed to be doing up there.

❝ There's a hope that's waiting for you in the dark
During her time in private school, Keaira had met her fair share of teen aged elitists. Surprisingly, even among social circles with families whom shared a similar tax bracket, she and her mom didn't quite measure up. As such, she could only imagine what her former classmates would have thought of some of the kids here. Not that their opinion really held that much weight with her. Which to be honest, was likely one of the many reasons that she didn't get on so much with the popular crowd back home. While Keke was a far cry from the type of person that was comfortable flaunting her wealth, the sixteen year old had never been dishonest when specifically questioned about it either.
However, there had always been a fine line between being informative and being boastful, the latter of which she had always tried carefully not to lean towards .Being a braggart or even the appearance of being so seemed a rather foolproof way to alienate potential friends and that was the last thing that the brunette wanted to do. Much to her relief, at the moment Ed was was preoccupied with the idea of campaigning to have ballet turned into an elective course. An idea, that certainly had merit in the teen's eyes and not just because it had been partially her idea. From her personal experience, students just seemed to fare better in subjects that they had an interest in. As far as she was concerned, if she had it her way, a student would be able to create their own schedule entirely.
Of course such a concept had been far too progressive for the likely of any faculty that she had presented it to thus far. An adorable expression of perplexity settled upon the teenager's face as Ed seemed to be inquiring about electives. As if he had never heard the term before. Several minutes passed before it occurred to Keke that it was quite likely that he had never heard the term before. Elective was quite likely an American term and Ed was definitively British. Grinning, the brunette eagerly volunteered "Oh, yes electives are definitely a thing. Most of your core subjects are still selected for you. You know your math, science, and english classes and the like, but usually there are at least two classes you can choose yourself to supplement your education. Like a foreign language ,computer classes, or maybe even a music class".
As the idea of creating a petition began to take root in the sixteen year old's head, Keaira's bewilderment gradually faded into excitement as she replied "Well, it has been a while since I created one, so I may have to do a bit of research to make sure that I get the wording right, but I should be able to come up with something by tomorrow. If the plan is to get it into peoples' hands via their phones it will probably make more sense to do one of those online petitions. They have tons of sites for them nowadays." While it still felt a bit awkward to Keke to be the only one among her peers to possess a credit card, Ed’s joke about never having even seen one in real time coaxed both a smile and a corresponding giggle from the brunette. Particularly, when she considered that it was merely a gold card whereas several of her friends owned platinum ones. Ed’s assurance that he would keep her secret prompted a sly grin to spill across the sixteen year old’s face as she once again allowed her hand to wander over to the pouch on her bag that held her cellphone.
Within second Ed’s phone buzzed with the following text message :
Now that you know one of my secrets, it’s only fair that I know one of yours.
Melody’s repulsion to mushrooms as a topping wasn’t quite unexpected as the brunette had come to realize that mushrooms were very much an acquired taste in general. Ed, while not necessarily opposed to the idea seemed to prefer Hawaiian style leaving Keke with the daunting task of selecting pizza that would best suit all their tastes. While her mother’s numerous attempts to persuade her to adopt a vegan lifestyle had failed, the teenager still only consumed meat in moderation. After several minutes of silent contemplation, the sixteen year old responded “Ok, so I figure that the best way to make sure that everyone gets something suitable for them is for everyone to get their own pizza.” With both Ed and Melody onboard with sneaking into the ballet studio for their midnight pizza party, a glint of mischief lit the teen’s typically dark orbs as the wheels began spinning wildly in her mind prompting her to answer “Well, I am fairly sure that I can make sure that we aren’t picked up by security cameras or any alarms for that matter. We just have to figure out how to get past our respective roommates.”
Leaving that for the pair of them to sort through, Keaira dug out her own schedule from her bag and studied it for a few minutes before adding “Actually, it looks like I do have math next.”

i wake at the first cringe of morning and my heart's already sinned Much to both the delight and bewilderment of her mother, Keaira had always been a model student and while her nearly insatiable thirst for knowledge played a major part in her scholastic aptitude, the brunette's perfectionist nature is what truly kept her at the top of her classes. While this typically meant that Keke placed a rather unhealthy amount of pressure on herself, the sixteen year old had always held herself to a higher standard than that of her peers. The teen didn’t ditch classes, she turned in her homework early, and often did extra credit when it was neither needed nor required. The teenager’s dedication to her studies often earned her a place in the heart of most of the teachers she’d had over the years which was one of the many reasons why the technopath now found herself a bit flustered at the harsh look that she’d just received from the Algebra instructor. Keaira had been determined to make a good impression on the teacher, particularly after the dismal performance in ballet earlier this morning.
Still, it was only the first week of classes and she had an entire year to turn things around, the optimist mused. At least her desk had ceased making that horrid screeching sound every time she moved so that was bound to put the teacher in better spirits wasn’t it? A common signal that she was perturbed, Keaira had begun to pick at her nails as the instructor sifted through the pile of papers on her desk. Struggling to remain both still and focused, Keke lightly drummed her nails against the smooth surface of the desk as the teacher lifted a clipboard from her chair. As her mind began to idle, a string of words popped into the sixteen year old’s mind. Snagging the pencil, the teen flipped open the notepad and rapidly began to scribble them down. Just as she finished her first stanza, the teacher began roll call.
A vexed expression briefly overtook the teen's face as she was forced to withdraw her attention from her poetry and attempt to refocus it on the teacher. She hated shifting gears so quickly as it most often led to her losing her train of thought. For that matter, the brunette wasn't exactly a huge fan of leaving things unfinished either. Who knew when her muse would return and allow her to finish her poem? It was at that moment that the sixteen year old realized that someone was speaking to her. A bashful expression quickly chased away her vexation as the teenager wondered how long the other girl had been attempting conversation with her. Offering a short wave in response to the dark-haired girl's introduction, Keaira replied "Oh, hey there. Sorry, I was a bit zoned out. I can get really caught up with things sometimes and totally block out everything that is going on around me."
"Kenzi? That's a rather unique name if you don't mind my saying. Don't believe I've ever heard it before. Is that short for anything? My name is Keaira by the way. Keke for short. I started earlier in the week, but still new for the most part. I'd offer to show you around but to be honest, I still get lost myself. Hence my being late today," Keaira replied. Keke extended her hand for a shake just as the teacher called out "Keaira Matthews?"

| I vy's inquiry regarding the locale of most LARPS was a fair question and yet Keaira was at a bit of a loss as to how to answer it. Had they been back in California, there was no shortage of role-playing groups whom hosted regular LARP meet ups that she could suggest to the inquisitive redhead. Washington state, on the other hand was completely unchartered territory and the sixteen year old had no idea whether or not such groups existed here. Shrugging her shoulders, Keke replied earnestly "Honestly, I'm not really sure. Back home there were a ton of them, but I don't much about what people are into around here. For that matter, I'm not even sure how often we are allowed to be off campus and how far we are able to travel from the school. Gods, what if we have to be chaperoned. That would be so lame." An uncharacteristically sullen expression settled upon the teenager's face as she considered the possibility of having to be babysat when out on the town. A bright smile flashed across the teen's face as she Ivy unintentionally requested a tarot card reading. However, just as quickly as the jovial expression appeared on her face, it was replaced with a more solemn one. Keaira closed her eyes, her chest gently rising and falling as she took several deep breaths before slowly opening her eyes. "Ok, I'm ready," the brunette stated rather matter of factly as she gathered the cards from the bed and slid them back into the deck. After shuffling the cards several times, Keke drew three cards from the deck and one by one placed them facedown on the bed. Pointing to the first card, the teen stated "This card represents your past." Moving her hand over the second card she continued "This one represents your present and the third one is supposed to represent your future. This particular layout is supposed to form a story of how your past and present will set the stage for your future." Flipping over the first card , the sixteen year studied the image intently for several minutes before returning her gaze to Ivy. "The position of the cards is just as important at the card itself because the card can mean one thing in an upright position can mean something totally different in a reversed position. This card is called the Fool and being that it is in an upright position, it means that you are rather impulsive in nature and that you often do things that might not be practical and make sense in the eyes of others, but makes perfect sense to yourself," the teenager explained. Satisfied with her explanation, the technopath flipped the second card and examined it. Tapping the second card, Keaira continued "This one is referred to as the High Priestess. Unlike the first one it's in a reversed position which typically has a negative meaning. It indicates a deliberate failure to acknowledge something that is obvious." Turning over the last card, Keaira gazed at it thoughtfully before stating" Last but not least is the empress and in its upright position, it actually does symbolize material wealth and abundance so that's a good thing." Keke realized that that the question Ivy had asked was simply if she would marry rich and for the most part, the cards had given her an answer, yet the brunette's curiosity prompted her to draw another card. Placing it directly under the second card, the teen turned it over and scrutinized it. An expression of concern flickered across the sixteen year old's face as she cleared her throat adding "So, what all this means is that because you are impulsive, you're going to jump into a relationship despite that there will likely be glaring signs warning you that you shouldn't. You will definitely experience wealth." Biting her lip, the teenager allowed her gaze to drop from her roomate's face to the bed as she finished quietly" But...it doesn't end well." Keke had been grateful for the reprieve of watching Ivy's transformation as she hadn't wanted to go into detail about what the cards had revealed. Although Keaira had been too shy to inquire, the curious expression on the brunette's face had indicated her desire to touch Ivy's tail. Once she had been given permission to do so, Keke's fingers tentatively reached out and trailed along the scales which much to her surprise were quite a bit softer to the touch than she had imagined. With most of her questions answered and Ivy indicated her fatigue, Keaira decided to allow the mermaid to rest peacefully. Rising from the floor, Keke shuffled back into the bedroom and having been distracted by conversation and her impromptu tarot reading resume unpacking her things. |

Hey there!
I am not sure how avid of a reader you are but I found reading to be immensely useful in expanding my vocabulary and showing me how to turn a phrase. Even if it just magazines and online articles.
Also, I am not sure if you already do this or not but if spelling and grammar is a concern you could type your post in word first so that you can use the spelling/grammar feature. In addition there is also a web extension called grammarly that will edit your documents much in the same way that word does and may be more useful because it will actually give you fragment suggestions.
I think that including a writing sample here might be allow others to get a better idea on what can specifically be improved upon.

❝ There's a hope that's waiting for you in the dark ❞
While Keaira had always made every conceivable effort to maintain a positive disposition even in the most dreary of circumstances, the brunette had to admit that her perpetual optimism had been tested when she had been informed of her enrollment in the Evergreen Metahuman Boarding Academy. Making friends had never been difficult, it was maintaining the friendships that she'd made that was challenging. Especially, when it started to become painfully clear that she was hiding something from them. Indeed Keke's secretive nature in terms of her ability had ruined many a platonic relationship and quite likely would have wrecked any potential romantic relationships. Well, assuming that she should ever one day become visible to the opposite sex in that manner, the brunette mused.
The teen's deep ocher gaze flitted across Ed's face as he explained his stance on the seemingly inescapable ballet course. Laughing one's way through seemed to be a fairly solid plan. After all, it was often said that laughter was the very best medicine and if his performance in the class was anywhere as dismal as her own then much medication would be needed. Still, Keaira could appreciate a positive outlook. " While, I am certain that there will be alot of laughs to be had. Particularly, at my expense, I wouldn't object to signing or even starting a petition to have the class offered as an elective, " Keke replied.
Generosity was a trait that had been instilled within Keaira from childhood that she still practiced in her adolescence. The lack of exposure to kids with economic backgrounds that differed from her own had in some ways skewed her perception of income inequality. A fact that was quite evident by the bewildered expression that crossed the sixteen year old's face as she took in the combined astonished reactions of both Melody and Ed. Blinking innocently, Keaira inquired tentatively "Doesn't everyone? I mean I am probably not supposed to have it here. My grandparents would likely flip if they knew, but honestly I think my mom jyst gave it to me because she is still feeling guilty for sending me away in the first place."
Feeling a bit awkward, Keke shifted uncomfortably in her seat. To her relief, the topic soon shifted back to her ability which Ed appeared to be quite fascinated with. Much to the teen's delight. Requesting a demonstration of her virtually hands free electronic usage, Ed fumbled for his phone while offering to provide her with his number. Reaching for the pocket of the duffel that She'd just drawn the credit card from, the brunette placed her hand on imprint of her cellular device. Glancing back towards Ed to insure that he had managed to get a hold of his phone, the technopath closed her eyes and proceeded to clear her mind focusing only on what she desired Ed's phone to do.
After about a minute, the device in Ed's hands began to pulsate forcefully indicating an incoming text message that read:
So, I am thinking pepperoni and mushroom. How about You? Oh, by the way, this is my number.
Slowly opening her eyes, the teen lifted her gaze to meet Ed's as she explained " The cool thing is that I really don't need a number. I just have to focus on the connection between my phone and yours." As the acquisition of cheesy goodness once again made its way to the forefront of conversation, the teenager's dark orbs dropped to her half eaten lunch as she responded " Well, I certainly have room for more and even if I didn't it surely wouldn't be the first time that I had pizza for breakfast. Probably a good call to not try to eat it in the dorm room. You never know who to trust. Come to think of it, I noticed that the ballet studio isn't locked at night."

| S ome time ago, Keaira had discovered that her hobbies and interests were quite unusual in the eyes of others her age. Most would even go as far as to say that they were 'nerdy' or 'lame'. Not that either of these terms bothered Keke. After all, a person whom lacked imagination or possessed an inability to expand their mind wasn't one to be despised but rather pitied. Which was perhaps why the brunette found herself gaining more respect for her new roommate by the minute. The inquiry in the nature of LARP had actually caught the teen by surprise as she'd grown so accustomed to her circle of friends back home whom possessed similar if not identical interests that it simply hadn't occurred to the sixteen year old that Ivy might not know what the acronym stood for. With a gentle smile, the technopath replied "Well, LARP stands for Live Action Role Play. It's where you dress up as a character that you made up and interact with others who are also dressed up as characters that they created. You could be an elf, or a princess, or an elven princess. Whatever you want really." Keaira's gaze flitted back to the cards spread out across her bed as Ivy questioned what kind of game they were used for. Pointing to the cards, Keke giggled a little as she responded "These are tarrot cards and they aren't aren't used for games. Or at least shouldn't be anyway." Picking up a card from the spread entitled 'The Moon', the brunette held it aloft and turned it so that it was visible to Ivy. "I practice tarotology and I am doing a tarrot card reading. I ask the cards a question about my past, present, or future and depending what cards I draw and in what order, it will give me the answer," Keaira explained. As Ivy explained that at the time of the spectacle in the cafeteria there had been two forms of liquid on her tray, the brunette's nose wrinkled in the way that it often did when she was concentrating or in deep thought. As a notion struck her, the teen asked "Isn't it possible that you were splashed by both the soup and the drink. I mean assuming that Ed bumped into you and that's how you ended up getting wet." As she pondered her thesis, Ivy announced that it was time for her soak and that she would be called when it was time. Keke stifled a yawn as she allowed her heavy eyelids to droop slightly. However, before the teenager could drift off, Ivy's voice rang out from the bathroom informing her that she was ready. Drawing herself upright and into a seated position, the sixteen year old slid off the bed and shuffled into the bathroom to note that Ivy had laid down in the tub draped in two towels. At her roommate's request, Keaira turned on the faucet As the water made contact with Ivy's skin, the girl's skin began to harden and crust over as shiny scales soon replaced what had at one point been an ordinary set of human legs. However, the transformation didn't merely stop there as it swept up the length of her frame etching deep grooves into Ivy's skin that Keke presumed must serve as gills. Suddenly bashful, Ivy dunked herself under the water and remained there confirming to the intrigued technopath that the redhead could indeed breathe under water. Resisting the urge to touch Ivy's tail, all of Keaira's thoughts spilled forward in one breathless inqiury "Does it hurt? Because it looks super painful. How long does this last typically? Like I mean how long does it take you to dry out if you don't initiate the process? " |

i wake at the first cringe of morning and my heart's already sinned Despite having been the one to draw attention to the smudge on her face, the dark-haired girl didn't appear to be overly concerned with its presence there at all. In fact, Kenzi appeared tp ne wearing it as a badge of honor as she batted her rather lengthy eyelashes at her coquettishly. Keaira's youthful face adopted a stern expression as she pretended to study the other' girl's lovely visage much in the manner that a true connoisseur of art might. "Oddly enough, it does. Uncanny really. Lavender really does go well with your complexion and that soft green is a perfect compliment to the brown in your eyes. It really couldn't look better than if you'd done it on purpose, Keke replied.
A sly grin tugged at the teen's lips as Kenzi vowed to never seduce her again. Cheekily, the brunette responded " Good, I'm not quite sure that my heart could withstand another seduction attempt from you." Soon enough as the conversation returned to art, the gleam returned to the teenager's eye as she answered "Agreed. I have always believed that it is quite a honor when someone chooses to share their work with you because it can be such a deeply personal thing when its coming for a real place within you. It can be so raw sometimes leaving you feeling rather vulnerable and exposed. Especially when people just don't get it."
Following Kenzi's gaze up to the clock, the technopath grinned adding "Oh well, to be continued then." As Kenzi spoke of coming from a family of artists, a flicker of envy flashed in the sixteen year old's eyes. While single parent homes were rather commonplace these days it still didn't mean that Keaira was particularly pleased with the lack of a father figure in her life. While, she was in no way ashamed of her mother whom she thought quite highly of and even considered to be her best friend, truthfully, the teen often wondered about her father. Especially since she had developed her abilities. Did he possess abilities as well? Was he also artistically inclined? She'd long since concluded that her creativity couldn't have come from her grandparents as they seemed far too ornery for that kind of thing.
With a smile that seemed somewhat sad and more than a little forced, Keke replied "Well, I am not sure if mine is in my blood to be honest. I mean my mom is definitely pretty artsy. Not so much as a profession but in general. She's kind of crafty. She makes all sorts of things that she sells for extra income Like dreamcatchers, scented candles, hypo-allergenic perfumes and soaps. My grandparents don't seem to have an artistic bone in their body and my father... Thankful that Kenzi seemed interested in a demonstration of her ability, the somber expression that had previously marred the young girl's dainty features quickly dissipated.
As she slid the phone back into her pocket, the anxious teen studied the other girl's face eager to see her expression as the bell blared loudly. The sound had obviously taken the dark haired girl by surprise as she had flinched, but Kenzi seemed to quickly regain her composure as she began to gather her belongings. Sliding out of the desk, Keaira slung her bookbag strap across her shoulder turning towards Kenzi as her classmate inquired as to whether or not she was a hacker. Laughing soflty, the brunette replied "Yeah, something like that. I am rather gifted with electronics. I can form a telepathic link with them that allows me to manipulate them fairly easily. I can essentially place phone calls, send text messages, and use a tablet or laptop without ever touching the device itself. Ranges devices like the bell require me to use another device kind of like a remote in order for it to work."
Noticing relief wash over Kenzi's face, Keke glanced briefly at the teacher before returning her gaze to Kenzi whom confirmed her suspicion of having released her hold on the teacher's attention. "Oh, and yeah I can hack most stuff," the teen added as she fell into step with Kezni whom was heading towards the door. Shrugging in response to Kenzi's rhetorical question, Keaira answered "Well, I would like to think that they will employ metahuman teachers that will be able to keep us in line. Or at the very least provide classrooms or buildings where our abilities will be negated to keep us from running entirely wild. In theory the school really isn't that bad of an idea, but in practice it could end up being more than they bargained for. "

❝ There's a hope that's waiting for you in the dark ❞
While Keke was by no stretch of the imagination, a dancer, it didn't mean that her mother hadn't tried to turn her into one. If for no other reason than a desperate attempt to redirect her indomitable energy. During that time, Keaira had seen the feet of many a ballerina whom had been dancing since early childhood and it wasn't pretty, to say the least. Still, the brunette thought it best not to gross out, traumatize, or torment potential new friends. Lifting her hands in the air in an expression of mock surrender, the teen conceded " Alright, Alright. No more talk of ballerina feet. I promise. Not like it will affect any of us anyway since the general consensus here seems to be rather anti ballet."
As Ed seemingly took a vested interest in learning more about her ability, the sixteen year old beamed a smile in his direction saying " It actually is quite a bit of fun and though I never quite thought of it that way, I am essentially a console command box. I still haven't been able to fully explore the scope of my power so I feel like I may have only a scratched the surface but when my ability first manifested I experimented with it by removing my mom's parental controls, unlocking channels in our cable package, so that we got free on demand movies and bypassing web filters. Recently, I have been working on developing my power so that I can operate most electronics without physical manipulation."
As Melody thanked her for defending her while simultaneously punching Ed for bullying her reputation in the first place, the teenager laughed. The British boy had murmured something that the technopath hadn't quite been able to catch before moving on to suggest that they make a concentrated effort to avoid pairing with one another in class. Smirking, Keaira replied "Oh, yes I am sure that Melody would get a great laugh at our expense. Up until we crashed into her with our consolidated clumsiness."
Smiling softly at Melody as she indicated that Keke understood herplught, the brunette nodded adding " Of course, I do. You had to work with what you had. You can't expect a student to excel under incompetent tutelage."
While she'd been ravenous mere minutes ago, after picking over the nuggets and fries on her plate, Keaira realized that she wasn't nearly as hungry as she thought. Perhaps, it had to do with her current options, Keke mused as Melody asserted that there had to be real food ripe for the ordering somewhere out there. A sentiment soon echoed by Ed whom went as far as to volunteer to locate said eatery. Leaning over, Keke unzipped the front pocket of her duffle bag and dug out a gold credit card. Flashing it so that the others could see, the brunette added " Well, if you guys have the method, I've got the means."

| F lipping the face down cards, face up Keaira studied them intently as Ivy voiced his disbelief or perhaps confusion about the bad review she'd received about Ingress. Offering her roommate a casual shrug Keke replied " People trash games for all sorts of reasons. So, who knows why people seem to be less thrilled. Maybe I will try the other version someday. I just don't feel a rush to make the switch anytime soon." The brunette hadn't been too surprised that Ivy didn't appear too interested in the idea of table top rpgs. If she didn't have the patience to make a dreamcatcher then it was highly unlikely that Ivy would have the patience to sit through an entire game. Looking up from the cards for the first time since turning them over, the brunette added " Well, I am a bit of a gamer, so I have all kinds. I even have several card games, so you're welcome to try any of the ones that seem interesting to you. Although honestly, I feel like you would be best suited for LARP." Nodding her understanding, the teen offered the redhead a sympathetic expression as she continued " Oh, I don't doubt that it was absolutely mortifying, but things should start to die down fairly soon. In my experience people are doing embarrassing stuff every day and eventually people forget about whatever it was that you did." While Keaira somewhat acknowledged that not everyone possessed her curiosity and thirst for knowledge, nevertheless it still surprised Keke that some students hadn't experimented more with their abilities. Baffled, the teenager asked "Well, in order to trigger the change in the cafe you had to have some kind of liquid spilled on you. Was it water?" Intrigued at the prospect of learning more about an ability aside from her own, the teen nodded eagerly saying " I would very much enjoy helping with that." Typically, the sixteen year old tended to avoid being interrupted or becoming distracted die in a reading but figured when would she ever get another chance to see a girl turn into a mythological creature? Sliding down so that she was laying across the bed in her stomach, the brunette folder her arms and rested her head on them adding "Ok, let me know when you're ready." |

❝ There's a hope that's waiting for you in the dark ❞
Holy hell, Keaira thought to herself as Melody affirmed Ed's assertion as to what would become of any tutu that should enter her vicinity to be more fact based than exaggeration. Shaking her head, Keke replied simply "Remind me never to get on your bad side." More so than the brief overview that she'd been given of Melody's power what had struck the brunette as most impressive was that Melody seemed to at least have a modicum of control over it. Otherwise, she'd likely be forced to wear some form of protective eyewear to prevent her from unintentionally incinerating people. Ed had chimed in with additional information as the physiology of Melody's power use prompting the teen to nod her head as she replied " Well, if her power use is rooted in the way that her eyes reflect light then that makes sense. Kind of how a person's eye color appear lighter or darker in certain lighting."
Despite the fact that metahumans were fairly common knowledge, Keaira had never been permitted to openly discuss her abilities and as such was always surprised when someone showed interest in her power. Not that she was shy or embarassed about them but merely had been conditioned to be as secretive as possible. To finally be among people like herself with whom she could truly be herself was quite liberating to say the least. Nibbling on her chicken nugget, the teen thought for a moment how to best explain her ability before saying 'Well, I guess you can say that I am something of a tech wiz. I have the ability to communicate with electronics and get them to do most anything that I want them to."
As Ed admitted that jeans weren't exactly custom made ballet attire, Keaira grinned cheekily commenting "Well, that's a bit of an understatement and I'm sorry but no I don't think you could pull it off, but feel free to prove me wrong. I would pay to see that in fact." The nugget proved to be greasier than expected forcing Keke to grab a napkin to rub the remaining grease residue from her fingers before addressing Melody's plans to derail the show. " Honestly, I don't think it would be such a bad thing either. My bruising and breaking the other dancers would be inevitable because I am a klutz. So, it wouldn't be intentional or malicious in nature. However, deliberately trying to get the show cancelled doesn't seem like it would be that hard."
Truthfully, the brunette had never given much thought to what was or wasn't her color. Whether she was an autumn or a spring. She had just always worn what she felt good or comfortable in. At her heart, the teen was all about self expression. Laughing a bit at Melody's determination not to wear a tutu, the teenager retorted "Well, that is a hell of a way to get your point across." The topic then turned to something the least appetizing thing to discuss over a meal, but the sixteen year old supposed that she'd eaten as much as she was going to in this sitting anyway.
"You know, I always thought that all the talk about good feet was a bit ironic as I believe ballet destroys your feet. Isn't it possible that you actually had goid feet before you started taking ballet," Keke inquired. Offering a casual shrug in response to Melody's question, Keaira added " Well,I know of him through Ivy. I don't imagine that flying off with a mermaid in your arms goes without notice. Particularly, on your first day. The clumsiness, I can forgive. I know a bit about that myself."
A pensive expression crossed the technopath's face as she contemplated Melody's apparent disgust with her curiosity of Ivy's anatomical capabilities. It seemed a perfectly logical question to ask. Why were people so uptight about that kind of thing? The human body was a fascinating and wondrous thing. There was a freedom in celebrating one's form and the spiritual bind formed between two people when expressing their live physically was a thing of beauty. With a devilish twinkle in her eyes Keaira continued " You're not Hugh Grant? A pity, that. There are few things more adorable than Hugh Grant's dancing in Love Actually."
Waving her hand dismissively at Ed's commitment to Beyonce, Keaira commented " You and about a million other guys. Probably some girls too." As Melody defended her actions in science class and Ed at least consented to the teacher being an idiot, Keke replied "Well, that sounds more like ingenuity than troublemaking if you ask me."

❝ There's a hope that's waiting for you in the dark ❞
Having only met Melody a few minutes ago the pair hadn't really had enough time to discuss what manner of ability had landed them here. Perhaps it had been because the combined rumblings of their stomachs had been too overwhelming to think past satisfying their need for nourishment. Or maybe the walk to the canteen had simply been too short despite feeling like it had taken them days to get there. Whatever the reason, Ed's mention of 'laser eyes' piqued Keaira's attention as she plucked a French fry from her tray and popped it into her mouth. Unable to tell whether he was speaking figuratively or literally, Keke inquired with curiosity evident in her tone "Can you really do that?"
How badass would it be to have a female Cyclops walking around school, the brunette thought to herself with amusement. Snatching two more fries from the tray, the teen chewed thoughtfully as she considered the likelihood of being allowed to sit out a compulsory course. "Honestly, they may not have a choice in my case unless they want a cast full of bruised and broken dancers. I have two left feet and virtually no rhythm. Madam Kiva will find that out the hard way that I am horribly ill suited for dance," the teenager replied.
With a casual shrug the sixteen year old replied"I suppose that they want us to look the part or she will make some ridiculous argument about our clothing being restrictive and hindering movement.A lthough I have to admit that she may have a point there when it comes to jeans. It did look pretty uncomfortable the way your jeans kept bunching up like that." At Melody's assertion that Ed might also be forced to wear a tutu, an image of the boy in front of her dressed in a tutu and tights crept into her mind forcing a series of giggles to erupt from her throat. Somehow, Keke knew that try as she may there was no chasing that image from her head anytime soon.
After taking a few minutes to pull herself together, the brunette continued "Whatever the case, I refuse to wear a tutu. Out of the question. I am glad that you like the Docs because I Don't do for shoes either. Have you seen what those monstrosities do to a person's feet? Ballerinas are masochists."
As Ed recalled his initial meeting with Ivy, a flicker of recognition lit Keke's eyes as she responded " Oh! You're THAT Ed! In that case perhaps you don't have me at that much of a disadvantage after all." Not being too familiar with the finer details of Ivy's transformation the revelation that her undies had been ripped off in the process was telling in so many ways. The fact that Ed confessed to not knowing Ivy hugely was even more intriguing to Keaira. Did he not know? The teen studied the boy's flustered expression before drawing the conclusion that he decidedly did not know which bought a mischievous glint to her own eyes.
Smirking, Keke stated in a teasing manner, "Eh, it's probably the accent. American girls tend to go nuts over that kind of thing, you know." While she had never said so aloud, the teen had to admit that the ability to turn into a mermaid didn't seem particularly useful. Especially when you couldn't control the transformation. However, a soft rosiness crept into the teen's cheeks when Melody introduced a component to Ivy's plight that the sixteen year old hadn't considered. It was a wildly inappropriate topic to discuss and yet her curiosity was piqued.
Casting a glance in Ed's direction as Melody suggested that boys coming into the room shouldn't be a problem, Keaira answered "I wouldn't be so sure about that. It is more a question of what they are going to do once they get there. I mean can she even..."
The pensive expression that had settled upon her face shifted to one of amusement when Ed implied he'd learned her darkest secrets from the dark web. Arching a brow she answered playfully "Oh, you did, did you? Well, we certainly can't have that now can we? There's no telling what kind of vicious lies the dark web has been spreading about me." As Ed desperately attempted to divert attention from himself back to his accuser, Keke shifted her gaze back to Melody asking "Bit of a troublemaker, are you?"
