Brian gasped in horror as the man’s body shattered before his blow. He thought he’d killed him.
”Look who did it again!” Dennis pronounced with glea.
But then he realized that it wasn’t blood and guts that was flying out of this man, but glass. Still, that didn’t stop Brian from repeating, ”I’m sorry, I’m so sorry…” Over and over again as his voice cracked and tears started forming in his eyes. He shrunk his muscles down back to regular size. His hands were shaking, one pressed over his mouth in horror, and he simply watched, frozen in place, as the man scattered across the pavement.
”Go help him dumdum!” Clara urged.
But it didn’t look like he needed much help. His body seemed to be repairing itself. Brian flinched at his words. ”Sorry, I’m sorry I didn’t want to hurt you, I just-I wanted you to stop, I…” He floundered. He felt that cold, sinking feeling inside his chest, that feeling that he’d done something horribly, irreversibly wrong. He felt every inch of his body teeming with guilt. It wasn’t a pleasant feeling.
He watched, a little mesmerized as the man’s body formed a cohesive human figure, all expect for the face, which remained partially obscured.
”Hehe, Big Boy, I like that.” Clara giggled, ”Poor baby Brian is a Big Boy.”
Then he remembered something, something the myriad of psychologists, psychotherapists, and psychiatrists had reminded him to do on a daily basis when in their care. Reality check.
There was a good chance this glass man wasn’t real. He didn’t often have visual hallucinations, but when he did they were typically of humanoid figures. They weren’t usually this vibrant, but they could be. Unfortunately, there wasn’t anyone else around who could confirm or deny this man wasn’t real, but there were other ways to check.
”Interact with something. In the uh...in the environment.” He requested, wringing his hands nervously.
”He will lie to you.”
”Please.” He added. ”Please do this, please.”
”You’re acting like a beggar.” Sasha scoffed, ”Pathetic.”
"Please." He asked one more time, softly.

”Die.”
”Stop it.” He moaned for the thousandth time.
”You deserve to die.”
”Stop.”
”You’re a killer, an eye for an eye.”
”Stop.”
”Yeah, stop!”
”Stop.” He mumbled, defeated. It had become his mantra for the night. He’d been plagued by voices all day, and they’d only been getting worse. He’d been stumbling aimlessly down the thankfully empty street, hoping that some change of scenery would distract his mind enough that it would hinder the voices.
”They are watching you.”
So far, no luck.
He was a little behind on his Haldol. He didn’t break into the pharmacy until he was clean out - he wanted to put that part off for as long as possible - but it turned out the pharmacy was clean out as well. He was a day behind maybe, but he was already starting to feel the effects. His mind felt jumbled, like there was a fly buzzing around inside his head. It was unpleasant. It wasn’t bad enough that it physically hurt, but it was certainly annoying. Or maybe it was just the fact he hadn’t had an alcoholic beverage inside of him since this morning. That usually kept him pretty numb; maybe he’d just removed the numbness, that was the problem. Whatever it was it was annoying as hell and he just wanted it to go away, but he couldn’t quite connect the pieces of how to do so.
As he was trying desperately to gather his thoughts, a man suddenly landed on the ground in front of him. Was he real? He looked real, kind of. But his face changed, definitely a sign that he wasn't real. Still, stranger things were real nowadays. The man stared back at him, holding something, and quickly took off running in his direction. It took him a second to put two and two together until Tect commented:
”He is running away from a crime.”
But by that point the man was already past him.
”Go get ‘em!” Clara encouraged enthusiastically.
With a shake of his head, Brian increased the muscles in his legs and took off after the man. ”Wait! Come back!” He shouted after him. ”I won’t hurt you!”
”He’s not going to listen to you, fucking idiot.”
That was true, but it didn’t hurt to try. With the increased strength in his legs, Brian caught up to the man in no time, but the man kept running. ”Stop, please stop!” But he didn’t stop. With a deep breath, Brian increased the strength in the right arm and punched the man in the side, not enough to hurt him, just enough to knock him to the ground and stop him.

Adri’s voice rambled on in the background as he stared, mezmorized. So many ways to escape. Maybe even something that could bring him...happiness? It was such a foreign word, such a foreign experience. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d been happy. He didn’t know it he’d ever been happy. At least people with bipolar disorder got to experience happiness. He was just stuck in this thick, black goo that had been dragging him down all his life in a world polluted by gray. He would do anything to escape that, just for a second.
He wasn’t sure was a depressant was, but it certainly sounded unpleasant. He had enough depression as is. Although his ears perked up when he heard it could kill him. A part of him wanted to jump at that immediately. Death by getting high? That sounded amazing. But here he was with a friend? and he’d never had a friend before, even if it did come with a question mark after title. And here was a chance at happiness, he didn’t want to give that up. For once, he opted not to kill himself when given the opportunity.
He was skeptical about the hallucinogens. He’d been trying to escape hallucinations all his life, he didn’t need more. But maybe these would be good hallucinations, happy ones. They wouldn’t be angry voices and chaotic visions of corpses and ghosts. Why else would people take them? What happens when a schizophrenic takes hallucinogens? Super hallucinations? Guess he’d have to find out.
He grabbed the bag of shrooms out of Adri’s hand, reached in, grabbed one, and shoved it into his mouth. It tasted weird and earthy. He swallowed, and finally wiped the drool from his mouth. He didn’t know what to expect, but he was excited. ”Can we do the heroin too?” He asked, somewhat shy but with enthusiasm. He wanted to get high out of his fucking mind.

”Your diagnoses is no excuse for the way you act.” Sasha scolded, seemingly forgetting that Adri couldn’t hear her. It made Brian chuckle a bit, which caught him off guard. It had been so long since he’d laughed he thought he’d forgotten how. But he just had. The surprise was evident on his face. He touched his hand to the side of his face, feeling how his muscles contracted when pulled back in laughter, then looked at his hand as if it had just touched something strange and magical. How odd.
Brian cocked his head to the side slightly as Adri undressed before him. Typically Dennis would be making some unsavory comment, but it was dead silence from him. In fact, his voices had been pretty quiet ever since he met Adri. Not completely quiet of course, but more quiet than usual. And less mean too, at least a bit less mean. He looked at the little nub left in between his fingers. Could this be the cause? He’d heard about marijuana helping with mental health issues. But could it just be her? She’s the first person in a long time who’s actually treated him with any modicum of respect. She talked to him like he was an equal, like he was a human being. It made him far less anxious when the person he was interacting with didn’t treat him like a smear on the bottom of their shoe. It also made him far less anxious to get high. He came to the conclusion that his improved mental condition was probably the result of both influences; chemical and social.
He was too high to really care about Adri’s nudity. Or maybe he was too gay. That was a funny thought. It made his muscles contract in laughter again, but no sound came out, he just made a happy, amused face. It felt good. He recognized it was an odd thing to undress in front of someone, not to mention someone you just met, but she was crazy, like him, and he knew better than most that crazy people do weird things. They aren’t the most socially normal. He felt in good company.
He waited somewhat impatiently for Adri to return. The joint had shrunk to nothing but a small scrap of paper and a bit of dust. He didn’t want this feeling to disappear. He didn’t want the voices and anxiety and depression to come back. He needed more.
His eyes widened when she returned, his jaw dropped, drool leaked out of his mouth but he didn’t wipe it away this time. A whole platter of mind altering drugs. Everything on that tray would guarantee an escape from his head. It was a dream come true. ”H-how do I- Where do I-” He stuttered, trying to compose himself. ”How do I use it? Where do I start?” His voice sped up with excitement. He threw the useless nub to the side. He felt his hand reach toward the tray, but he truly had no idea how to use them or where to start, so it just hovered above. ”Are we still gonna play video games?” He asked almost as an afterthought.
We can do whatever we want.

Brian typically would’ve flinched away from her touch, but his mind was so fogged so...calm he didn’t really care. He just let what happened happen. He’d never been in cab before. He’d always been too anxious. Too much trust involved, too much human interaction. But he was under a fantastic combination of drugs. And he felt safe around Adri. She seemed strong, powerful. He felt like she would protect him.
”That’s a lotta money.” Clara ogled.
”Nothing you haven’t seen before, isn’t that right Brian?” Dennis teased, ”Nothing you don’t see when you break into those banks.”
”Shut up.” Brain grumbled more exasperated than truly bothered as he followed her into the cab.
His large body took up a lot of space in the cab. He felt claustrophobic, but again, wasn’t too bothered by it. He felt like he could breath. He took another draw on the join that was slowly getting shorter and shorter. It made him anxious, thinking it could run out, but was reassured by Adri’s assertion of more when they got to her place.
He squirmed under her touch, uncomfortable. “Oh I'm...not...into...girls...I don't think.” He apologized. “Sorry.” He’d never had much time to think about his sexuality, but he was near certain that he was far more into men than women. He’d never been in a relationship, so he couldn’t be sure, but he’d never found women particularly attractive. There had been some men...but he didn’t deserve to like anyone like that and no one would ever like him back so he’d purged those thoughts from him mind whenever they’d appeared. There was no hope romantically for him.
Brian’s eyes widened as they approached the house. He’d never seen anything so big and fancy and modern.
”Impressive.” Sasha stated earnestly, high praise from her.
He followed her inside, somewhat nervous. He didn’t feel like he belonged here. This was too high and mighty for him. Sure, Sasha felt right at home, but he and Sasha had very different ideas for what exactly constituted as comfort.
His discomfort was somewhat assuaged as they walked inside. The house was expensive, beautiful, but the place was an absolute mess.
”Ugh,” Sasha scoffed, ”I take it back.”
He felt at home in the trash. He felt like he belonged. Anything too clean made him uncomfortable. He was glad he and Adri had a similar mindset.
He was somewhat taken aback by her welcomeness. Make himself at home? He’d never felt at home. It was such a strange concept to him. She offered for him to take whatever he wanted, but he knew he wouldn’t touch a thing without her permission. He was far too anxious.
”Video games?” He repeated with slight surprise. He’d never played video games before. His mother had never bought anything for him, she’d spent all her money on alcohol, and he never had any friends to play with. And of course they never allowed video games in the psych ward. ”Yeah, sure.” He accepted with what amounted to muffled enthusiasm. He looked disappointedly at his disappearing joint, which had shrunk to barely a nub. ”You got anymore of this stuff?” He asked.

Her comment about his drool made him self-conscious. He automatically wiped his mouth which, indeed, had started leaking again. ”I suppose we can.” He mumbled, looking at the glimmering line of slobber on his hand before wiping on his shirt. Well, at least she wasn’t too insulted by his comment.
”Brian like brain.”
”Brian like fucked up in the brain.”
”Ooh, that’s good, you should tell her that.”
”I’m not gonna tell her that.” He grumbled, then stopped himself, but not has immediately as usual. Turns out a mixture alcohol, weed, and heavy antipsychotics really loosen the inhibitions. Besides, she understood, didn’t she? She seemed like she understood. He was feeling a connection. To a person. To something. Anything. It was weird. He hadn’t felt anything like that in...forever, but mental illness always builds bridges, doesn’t it. The few connections he’d ever had with people were built over shared mental health experiences. Of course, those connections never lasted long.
He felt another pang of self-consciousness as her eyes drifted over him when he mentioned his lack of...well...anything. He rarely thought of himself as homeless. That would imply he was worthy of a home in the first place, that he deserved anyone’s sympathy or pity or charity. He was just...empty. He had nothing and deserved nothing. It seemed like she felt bad for him. He didn’t deserve to be empathized with. He was human trash. Nobody should feel bad for trash.
“I...wasn’t always this big.” He said. “Only happened about a year ago, when I got my powers. But yeah...four point, seven point, been in the chair...better question is what I haven’t been in.” He muttered somewhat ashamedly. He took another pull on the joint. ”I have bitten someone before...I think...I’m pretty sure, I don’t know my memory can get a little spotty when things go haywire up in here.” He pointed to his head. ”But I recall spending a couple days in the Quiet Room after a stint in the four point I think because I bit someone.” He shrugged. ”I might’ve just been clawing at someone. I don’t know. Maybe it was both.”
He took another pull. ”Come to your place…” He repeated listlessly, blowing out smoke. He was trash though. Why would she want trash in her place? No, he wouldn’t go. He would just ruin another life. Besides, he shouldn’t go and dirty up the place with his presence. That would be, as Sasha would put it, unspeakably rude. He opted not to accept her invitation.
Then she mentioned the weed.
”Absolutely. I’d-I’d love to come to your place.” He said with almost too much enthusiasm. Anything to get him more of this magical little plant. Besides, he liked this woman. Was it too much to hope something would come of this interaction? A connection, perhaps? A friendship?

He wanted her to stop saying crazy. He so desperately wanted her to stop. He knew he was crazy. He hated that he was crazy. He hurt people because he was crazy. He hated that about himself. He hated everything about himself but he hated that more than anything.
”Crazy.”
”Crazy.”
”Crazy”
”Craaazy”
They always had to remind him, didn’t they. Everytime he felt bad about something they just had to hammer it in. She was right though, that is exactly what a crazy person would say, especially someone who hated the fact that they were crazy with every fiber of their being.
Boring normal people. Oh how he wished he could be like them. Even with his…bitch of a mother, if he was like all those other boring normal people, maybe he would’ve turned out all right, or at the very least functional. Instead he was this disgusting, drooling, alcoholic, psychotic mess of an excuse for a human being. He had to wipe the drool from his mouth yet again. He caught it this time before it got too bad, but he still felt horribly self-conscious. ”Sorry.” He apologized.
His eyes widened slightly as she lit the joint using just her fingers. ”So you’re a…” Meta. She was a meta. Like him. And, in her own words, crazy. Like him. He rarely comes into contact with someone he has anything in common with. Maybe, just maybe…
”You think you can make friends?” Dennis scoffed. ”You’re more delusional than I thought.”
That shattered the miniscule amount of self esteem Brian had built up. He was alone. Horribly, horribly alone. And nothing would ever change that.
That was until he took a draw on that joint. Instantly, he felt his muscles, which he didn’t even realize were tense, relax. His mind slowed. He felt...not quite happy, but content. Almost. More content than he’d felt in a long time. Any doubts he had in his mind vanished. Yeah, this woman was definitely real.
”What kind of crazy…” He repeated listlessly, smoke coming out of his mouth as he talked. He thanked god for his mother’s smoking habit. He’d learned how to smoke seamlessly from his mother’s stolen cigarettes. No embarrassing choking here. He leaned against the wall of the alley. “I know what cluster B means.” He mumbled, taking another draw. ”You know the Macdonald triad involves bed wetting.” It took a second for him to realize he probably shouldn’t have said that, but when he did, he cringed, ”Sorry.” But he didn’t apologize with much intensity.
”Drugs are good.” Brian retorted. ”Drugs are real good.” He repeated looking down at the blunt held between his fingers. This magical little thing...He took another draw. ”Adri. Hi Adri,” he greeted, blowing out smoke, “I’m Brian.”
”What do I have...I got these clothes. Just this shirt and pants nothing else. I got superpowers. I got...I got schizo and depression and real bad anxiety.” He took another pull. ”All of it’s really bad I guess. I got voices. Four of them. They’re all assholes.”
”Hey!” Clara butted in.
”Well, Clara’s alright I guess.” He said. ”Sometimes.”
”Why’d you bite your psychiatrist?” He asked.

Brian stood frozen in place as the woman approached him. Fight or flight wasn’t an option for him. Not at the moment. His brain decided to chose freeze for him this time. It always seemed to have the most inappropriate reaction to adrenaline for the situation.
”Look at her go,” Clara ogled, fearless.”
”Slut.”
”She knows how much of a little bitch you are.” Dennis spat. ”Why would she be afraid of you?”
Crazy. His skin turned cold. Crazy. Could she read his mind? Did she know what he’s done? How much did she know?
”You fucking idiot.” He sneered. ”You don’t have to be a mind reader to see how much of a lunatic you are.”
Clara giggled, ”She called you crazy.”
”Crazy? Crazy, I’m not-I’m not crazy. He fumbled.
”Yes you are.”
”Why-why would you think that? I’m not crazy.”
”Yes you are.”
”I’m not crazy.”
”Yes you are.”
”I’m not crazy!”
”Yes you are.”
”No I’m not! His face turned a sickly pale when he realized he was no longer talking to the woman. ”Sorry, sorry, sorry. I wasn’t yelling at...I’m so sorry”
”You are crazy.” Tect noted before adding, ”You drink too much.”
Brian had to agree with Tect again. As numbing as the alcohol was, it always did make him a little looser. Not like that was going to make him stop anytime soon.
He’d been so focused on the accusation that he didn’t notice the woman’s other words. Was she...like him? Would she understand? No, that was stupid. No one was as fucked up as him. No one would understand. He was in this alone. That’s the way it always was and that’s the way it always would be.
He looked the woman up and down as she handed him a joint. He still wasn’t quite sure she was real. At a muscular six foot four, Brian was far bigger than her, but he felt so much smaller. He felt smaller than everybody, but this was especially the case with her. It was like she had two feet on him. He felt so miniscule, infantile. It was uncomfortable.
He stared at the joint for a while. He hadn’t had marijuana before. He’d always been too afraid to approach any dealer about it. But god did he want it. Anything that could possibly take him out of his mind he’d happily ingest.
”It is poison.”
He carefully plucked the joint out of her fingers, hands shaking, and brought it close to him, holding it like it would explode if handled improperly. ”Um...do I...light it?” He asked, cringing at his awkwardness.

”Listen to me, please.” He begged the robber. ”Other people, they’re gonna take you to jail. They’re gonna, they’re gonna...Look, I’m not gonna do that. I can help you. I can.”
“You?” The robber looked at him with disbelief. It made Brian feel extremely self-conscious.
”He knows you can’t do shit.”
”You do not have a plan to help this person.”
It was true. He didn’t have a plan. He didn’t quite know what he was doing. He knew what he wanted. He wanted to stop criminals and help them find a better way of life before they found themselves in the prison system. He simply didn't know how to achieve that. He’d stopped a few robberies, but wasn’t able to do anything before the cops arrived.
”I...I don’t know how, but I will, I promise. I’m sorry.”
The robber scoffed, and wiggled in his grasp. “Can you just let me go, man?”
”No, I-” He was cut off as he heard a voice from across the alley. He stared at the woman, dumbfounded. She didn’t seem quite real. Was he hallucinating? He shouldn’t be, the Haldol should be taking care of that. As he stood there, without him realizing, his grip on the robber began to loosen. At the woman’s command, Brian suddenly felt a fist across his face, it hit hard, harder than he expected. He fell backwards, landing awkwardly on his ass. By the time he got to his senses, the robber had made his way down the alley, turned the corner, and was gone.
”I guess he took her advice.” Clara giggled.
”Fucking idiot” Dennis spat
He shook his head, his muscles shrinking back to normal size, and, remembering the woman was still there, tried to leap back to his feet. He stumbled, and fell flat on his face, but hurriedly and clumsily picked himself up. He swayed when he stood.
”He-he had a gun.” He quickly explained. ”He-he stole a purse, I was stopping-I was stopping him I…” Words failing him, he fell back to his usual mantra, ”I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”
”Look at her, dressed like a slut.” Sasha scoffed, ”Well, at least she makes an effort.”
”I think she looks cuuuuuuute!” Clara whined, ”Tell her she looks cute!”
”No, I’m not gonna-” He stopped himself abruptly, realizing he was speaking out loud. He felt the urge to apologize again, but decided against it, not wanting to draw any attention to his...mental peculiarities.
”I didn’t-I didn’t wanna hurt him. I’m sorry.” An outpouring of saliva fell from his mouth as he talked. I decent sized drop fell on the ground. The rest he wiped from his mouth, embarrassed. ”Sorry.” He didn't dare meet the woman's eyes.

”Um...um...um…” He wracked his brain, trying to figure out exactly what happened in the days leading up to his attempt. Time was a blur for him, it has been for years, but even more than that, he can’t seem to think of the past, he can’t seem to think about anything without his brain sliding away to something altogether without him realizing it. ”Um...days ago, I was on the street, there was...alcohol and sometimes it tasted like fish.” He finally came up with, unaware that anything he said might have said anything odd.
Brian caught that look. He knew what it meant. There was no judgement in that look but he must thinking it. He knew that Brian was
”an insect a tiny little"
”stupid son of a bitch can’t take care of himself can’t”
”function properly in society does not know how to socialize"
”or make any friends poor baby Brian has to have people around to stop him from hurting himself”
”or others.”
Or others. Or others...No he can’t think about her head, her head, half of her head, less than half, no. What if he could read his thoughts? That’s why they sent him to him. It must be. No. No. That’s irrational. That’s ir-ration-al. Irrigation. Irration. To ration out irrigation. Is that where that word came from? He barely comprehended the doctor’s words about his diet. ”It’s fine.” He replied, his eyes glazed over.
It was his reply to Brian’s concern about restraints that caught his attention. It was a non-answer. He didn’t tell him what they’d do to stop him. They didn’t tell him. It must be really bad if they weren’t telling him. It would be a surprise. Maybe it was already in his mind. Did they plant a chip to neutralize him, to monitor him? He honestly kind of hoped they did.
”Personalized set-up.” He repeated. He didn’t know what that meant, but it sounded ominous. Did they know he was coming? Were they ready for him? How many files did they have on him?
The doctor seemed too confident, like he could cure Brian. ”You dont, you don’t, you don’t understand,” he started, trying desperately to keep his thoughts on track, ”things don’t work, things, things, things, I need a lot for it to stop. With eight sides. You can’t cure, I’m not, I’m stuck like, like in sand. You just need to keep me. Contain me. With a blue tupperware lid. I’m not, I’m no, there’s no hope. You can sedate, sen-a-date, sedate, sorry, sedate. But I just need to know I can’t, can’t, can’t…” he couldn’t find the word, it kept escaping him, “cause blood.” He landed on.
”Sorry.” He mumbled with his head down, still unaware he might have said anything particularly strange, but aware that he was having trouble keeping his thoughts straight. ”Sorry, thank you, sorry.”

”OMG he’s so nice too OMG!” Clara squealed.
God damn it he was nice, which meant Clara was going to fawn over him even more. And the others...
”Look at him, pandering to you. Walking eggshells around you.”
”What a fraud.”
”There are bad doctors. He is a doctor. Therefore, he could be a bad doctor.”
They weren’t much better.
”Y-yes, I took Haldol.” He admitted. ”I don’t remember the exact dose.” Which was only partially a lie. Whenever he stole the medication, he didn’t keep track of the dosage. All he could remember was, ”It was a lot.” He bit his lip. ”It kept me sedated. Dead. I want to be…” He trailed off, realizing exactly where that sentence was heading.
He took a deep breath. ”I didn’t...I ate a little I don’t-I don’t eat much. I’ve never eaten...much.” That was more than an understatement, but it would have to suffice. He often got made fun of how skinny he was when he was a kid. It led him to be relatively self-conscious about his appetite.
”It-I have to ask.” He started, looking at the doctor.
”You’re gonna say something stupid, aren’t you.”
He shook his head, as if he could shake the voices away. He’s tried many times but never succeeded, yet he still tries, there’s nothing else he can do. ”I-How will you contain me? How will you…” He enlarged the muscles in his arm. ”How will you stop this, specifically?” He shrunk it back down. ”Please tell me. Please.”
”Enhanced Quiet Room?”
”Ooh, maybe a super special booty dart.”
”Four point.”
”Maybe they’ll finally put you in a straightjacket, where you belong.”
He shook his head again, trying to wipe it of unpleasant imagery, somehow only making it worse. What if they did did have...extreme restraints. This is a place for metahumans after all. He didn’t know the protocols, he was in unfamiliar territory. He felt his anxiety levels rising, hoping the doctor wouldn’t notice his increased breathing and rapidly quickening leg.

Buzzing. Buzzing, buzzing, buzzing, like a fly inside his mind. It hurt. He wasn’t unfamiliar with this feeling. It means all the alcohol had worn off, the Haldol was coming out of his system. He was waking up. And it hurt. It hurt so fucking much. He sat on the edge of his bed, head in his hands, his leg bouncing up and down furiously. And the voices…
”It’s so booooooring in here, let’s get ooooout of here c’moooooon!”
”You dumbass, you idiot. You hurt that girl the other night, you scared her! You monster!”
”This clothing is disgusting. How can you bear to wear it? Simply feel it itching. Feel it.”
”They can read your mind. The sky is cloudy. They are coming to hurt you. Your hair is blond.”
They were a cacophony. An endless cacophony, talking over each other, around each other, arguing with each other. Annoying, negative, hurtful, scary. They’d been increasing exponentially ever since he woke up.
Breakfast was alright. He didn’t see Sky so he sat by himself. Half a banana was all he could muster to eat. He wasn’t anorexic. He’d sometimes been given that diagnoses by lazy doctors who'd only bothered to look at what he’d eaten. His appetite had always simply been astronomically small, even smaller when in a new environment without medication and anxiety cranked up to eleven. Of course, with all his muscles, his poor eating habit was all but invisible.
As the day went on, that buzzing had increased, getting louder and louder. It wasn’t a hallucination. It was metaphorical. It was the only way he could describe what was happening to his brain. It was his thoughts coming undone. Buzzing, buzzing, buzzing…
He snapped his head up as he heard a knock on the door. An elongated, high pitched squeal emerged from from Clara as soon as the man entered the room.
”OMG! He’s so cuuuuuuute!!!!!
”He looks alright I suppose.” High praise from Sasha.
Brian did have to admit he found the man attractive, which made him feel extra self-conscious of the bandage on his wrist, but that whole thought was stupid so he stopped thinking it. Especially when he learned the man was his psychiatrist. Although he certainly didn't forget about the bandage.
He nodded shakily at Dr. Havelock’s request to sit down. Room visits. Interesting. They usually had offices. Doesn’t matter. He was a psychiatrist. Which meant one thing.
”Drugs, I need drugs.” He blurted out. "Seroquel, Abilify, Thorazine, Lithium, Lamotrigine, Klonopin, Valium, Propranolol, even a goddamn SSRI, I don’t care just give me something!” He bit his lip, suddenly overcome with embarrassment at his outburst. ”I’m sorry. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. I just...I need medication. Please. P-preferably Haldol. Please." He added sheepishly. He held his head in his hands again. ”Before I hurt someone. Please.”

She wanted to help him.
”It’s because you’re so goddamn pathetic.”
He was. He was a six foot four grown man sitting curled up in a ball, face stained with tears, yelling at the voices in his head. He’s always been pathetic and he’s never going to stop being pathetic.
”A waste of space.”
Maybe. Maybe he should stop taking up oxygen. Maybe, once and for all, he should finally finish the job. Because no one wanted to be his friend, no one wanted to be in a relationship with him, no one would ever benefit positively from him. His little stint as a vigilante was a waste of time. All he did was give lady’s back their purses, stop people from robbing a gas station, material things, all the while he was robbing banks to drown himself in alcohol. He was pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. But…
”But what?” She asked excitedly.
But she saw him as, if he wasn’t mistaken, a friend. She said they could help each other. A mutually beneficial relationship. Friendship. Maybe. He looked out the window again, just now coming to the fitting realization that he was looking out at the sky, and saw the asterism, ten from Scorpius, six from Ara, one from Norma, and one from Telescopium.
”Bit on the nose, don’t you think.”
Two people side by side, friends, friendship. He was pathetic, yes, but maybe he wasn’t such a waste of space.
Her final words brought a somber smile to his face. ”This is far from my first night. Besides, I wouldn’t want to get caught by the tecs.” He stood up and made his way words the door. Opening it, he paused by the doorway and turned towards her. ”I don’t...I mean, I’m not a doctor or anything, but I don’t think you’re crazy.” He said. ”I’m crazy. I have...stupid brain chemicals. But yours. They don’t seem stupid. They seem...exceptional.” He smiled at her. ”Goodnight.” He said as he closed the door behind him and walked back to his room, perhaps once in a long time able to go to sleep.

”LIAR!” Dennis called, ”LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FUCKING FIRE! She knows exactly what you’ve done!”
”She knows just how disgusting you are.”
He stood, fists clenched, shaking, the muscles in his arms slowly starting to grow. ”You know! I know you know! I-”
”You’re scaring her.” Clara mentioned, voice unusually quiet.
He paused, his eyes looking past the fear and paranoia to see a scared young woman, a young woman scared by him. He felt a wave of guilt overtake him. His muscles shrunk back down to normal size. He slowly sunk to the ground, still shaking, trying to parse the words she’d said to him. She didn’t know. All she heard was the voices. That’s all she knew. That he had voices. That’s all she knew. She doesn’t know what he’d done. She doesn’t know. He repeated it to himself in his head until it stuck. She doesn’t know. She doesn’t know. She doesn’t know. She doesn’t know.
”Yes she does!” Dennis sang.
”Shut up.” Brian barked, much more harshly this time. He sat, curled up in a ball on the floor, trying to convince himself that she hasn’t looked into the very depths of his mind and that he murdered two people in cold blood and-
”She does not know.” Tect intercepted.
That gave him pause. It set his mind to the path he wanted it to go. She doesn’t know. He took a deep breath and looked up at Sky. ”I’m sorry. I’m really sorry. Don’t be scared of me. I get paranoid, that’s all, it’s just the…” He tapped the side of his head. ”Please don’t be scared of me.”
”She should be.”
”Just...don’t touch me again.” He added. ”Please."

Visions? That didn’t sound like a crazy thing, that sounded like a power. And she wasn’t acting particularly psychotic, not enough for her visions to be a delusion. And she said she did it while she was sleeping, definitely not psychotic. She was here, she said she was a metahuman, maybe that was her power. He was distracted from his line of thought when she asked to take his hand. He accepted. He felt a wave of shame and embarrassment when she suddenly pulled away, like he was covered in spines. ”Yeah, they’re...not very nice.” He sheepishly replied to her comment about his voices.
”Hey!”
”Well, Clara’s alright I guess, and Tect can be...okay. The rest not so much. There’s only four though, I’ve known people with up to fifteen or twenty or…" His blood turned cold. Something suddenly occurred to him. “Can you read my mind?” He asked, shaken. Did she see? She must have. No.
”Oh she knows.” Dennis hissed. ”She’s just hiding her disgust.”
”She has definitely been made aware.” Sasha informed. ”You’re terrible at hiding things.”
”She has read your mind.”
He quickly backed away from her. ”Did you see!? Did you-” No, he was making himself to obvious. He felt his chest start to tighten, his eyes start to sting. He looked outside, focusing on the stars and only the stars. He named each and every one separately until his breathing started to slow along with his thoughts. He tried to slow everything down as he asked, "What did you do? What did you see?” But he couldn’t stop his voice from shaking.
