Keaira's fashion sense is a bit lacking to say the least. The teen rarely keeps up with what is trendy these days and as such usually ends up wearing clothing styles that haven't been popular in years. While Keaira knows little to nothing about what was fashionable in the 90s, she seems most drawn to clothing that was stylish during that time period. Choker necklaces, dungarees, flannel shirts and crop tops take up a disturbingly large amount of her closet space while the other half is filled with denim jackets, track pants, and high waisted jeans. Her choice of footwear can be anything from combat boots or Doc Martens to Sketchers and Addidas sneakers.

Keaira puts as little effort into her hair as possible. As a go to look Keaira usually scrunches her hair through the use of copious applications of mousse giving her what she calls her "drowned rat" look.When she is feeling a bit fancy, Keaira will twist her damp hair into buns and let it air dry which creates beach waves that with the right outfit or accessories can pass for grunge. As a result of Keaira's skin being so sensitive that simply looking at foundation seems to invoke an acne eruption she tends to avoid makeup like the plague aside from lip gloss or mascara.

Keaira Matthews was born on June 25th 2002 to Lynnette Preston. Lynnette and Chase Matthews met as children when the Matthews family purchased what was initially meant to just be a vacation home in San Diego. However, Daniel and Victoria fell in love with the area and decided to make it their permanent home particularly as their children had begun to build close friendships with other local children.Despite being as different as two people possibly could be somehow Lynette's spontaneous and free spirited nature offered perfect balance to Chase's austere and pragmatic demeanor both as friends and eventually as lovers.

For most that knew them the shift in their relationship from friends to lovers seemed inevitable. Chase's parents however, were less than thrilled. For as much as they adored her, Lynnette was still very much a commoner. Realizing that any attempts to prohibit them from seeing each other would only strengthen their resolve to be together, Daniel and Victoria were forced to wait it out and pray that it was just a phase. Much to their chagrin, their son's love for Lynnette was sincere which was made quite clear when he proposed after dating for two years. Head over heels in love, Lynnette had never truly realized how much she'd be giving up in becoming a part of one of the most prominent families in high society.

Suddenly, everything that she did was wrong. She ate with the wrong silverware at meals, her posture was atrocious, she was never appropriately dressed for any event in her future mother in law's eyes and she struggled to keep up with a very demanding schedule. While the loss of privacy and adherence to strict rules were bothersome to Lynnette, it was the realization that she was beginning to lose her sense of self that eventually prompted Lynnette to break off her engagement after six months. Having taken the breakup much harder than expected, Chase decided to transfer from UCLA to Princeton University to finish out his business major. Lynnette and Chase didn't cross paths again until two years later during spring break in his senior year when the pair wound up at the same beach party.

With both of them being heavily inebriated what began as just a desire to catch up with each other quickly escalated into much more. At six months pregnant Lynnette received a surprise visit from a stranger that changed her life as the stranger warned her that the child she was carrying could be special in ways that she couldn't imagine and she was never to tell anyone about the gifts that her child might possess. The warning was as vague as it was unsettling but was soon forgotten in the following months as she prepared for childbirth. As a single mother Lynnette worked as both a yoga and Pilates instructor to make ends meet and provide for little Keaira who was beginning to favor her father as she grew older making it impossible for Daniel and Victoria to continue denying that the child was their granddaughter.

Fearful that Lynnette would grow weary of rearing the child on her own and reveal Keaira's existence to their son ruining his life in the process, Daniel and Victoria approached Lynnette with a proposition. While Lynnette in no way felt comfortable with the arrangement, she was barely keeping the family of two afloat on her own and didn't see as she had much other choice. With the stipend from Daniel and Victoria, Lynnette was able to raise Keaira comfortably and their lives were fairly easy until Keke's 13th birthday when things started to get a little strange.
