must be a dream i see its like deja vu again Ok, this one was definitely the one, she thought to herself as she evaluated her reflection in the full length mirror in her bedroom. Of course she had said the same thing about the last three outfits that she tried on and at this point, she was actually bordering on being far more than fashionably late. So, perhaps the sleeveless, white crop top with the plunging neckline and the high waisted, stone washed jeans simply won out by default. Gathering her wavy honey blond locks into a loose low bun, she then tugged a baseball cap of her luxurious locks adjusting the brim so that it partially covered her face. Sliding a pair of obnoxiously large sunglasses over her eyes, Maia slipped an oversized sweatshirt on before snagging her keys and her coach clutch from her canopy bed. Slipping outside of her home, she took a cursory glance at her surroundings before scurrying over to her Hyundai Genesis and unlocking the door. Once settled in the driver's seat, Maia let out the breath that she hadn't been aware that she'd been holding. With a quick glimpse in her side view and rear view mirrors, she eased the car down the driveway and out onto the main road. For privacy reasons, she had selected a skating rink on the outskirts of town for which meant that she was in for a bit longer of a drive, but a first date was nerve racking enough without having a horde of passing snapping pictures of you every few minutes or so. Talk about living life under the lens of a microscope. True enough, she had dated several guys whom hadn't seemed to mind the near constant invasion of privacy. Of course at the same time most of them had been merely looking for their fifteen minutes of fame. Perhaps, when it really came down to it that was what had truly driven her to Tinder in the first place. She'd wanted to meet someone real. Someone who didn't know who she was and as such couldn't possibly be interested in her for superficial reasons. She'd grown weary of dating shallow, self absorbed celebrities whom could barely hold a conversation. Still, the whole concept of a dating app was a completely foreign concept to her. The whole swipe left, swipe right thing was a bit like shopping for a romantic partner which seemed a little impersonal at first. While she had swiped right on quite a few guys, this was the first time that she'd every accepted a date with one. To say that she was nervous would be a massive understatement. There were so many risks with meeting a person off the internet. The foremost being the simple danger factor and on the less extreme end of the spectrum the person could just simply not be whom they said that they were. The notion had ran through her mind several times that he may not look like his picture or they might meet and be plagued by those awkward pauses or extended periods of silence. Then of course there was the chance that one of them could say or do something to make an utter fool of themselves and never leave it down. However, the fear that seemed to outweigh them all and tug the most insistently at the back of her brain was that he would be upset that she'd deceived him. Which would wound her deeply as Maia had come to really like Isaiah more and moreso with each conversation that they had. He wasn't only insanely hot, but sweet and thoughtful. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great listener. It was amusing to think that she'd never been one of those girls that were constantly glued to their phones. In fact, she often teased those kind of girls. Yet, ever since she'd been chatting with Isaiah, her phone had remained attached to her at all times as she never wanted to miss a chance to talk with him. Soon enough, Maia arrived at the rink and pulled the vehicle into a parking space. Insuring that the lot was empty, Maia tugged the sweatshirt over her head and tossed it carelessly into the passenger's seat. Pulling the sunglasses off, she folded them carefully and placing them in the cup holder. Removing the hat, she removed the elastic band from her hair allowing her thick mane to tumble down her shoulder in soft beach waves. Placing the hat on top of the sweatshirt, Maia gave herself a quick once over in the mirror before shutting off the engine and exiting the car. Taking a deep breath, she murmured "Here goes nothing," to herself as she handed a ten dollar bill to the clerk and was granted entrance into the rink. Taking a few minutes to allow hers eyes to adjust to the dim lighting, she stopped just a few steps inside the building, her gaze sweeping the spans of the rink for a familiar face. tagged: open | words: words | outfit: link | music: music

- RISE - "Together, we’re gonna rise with the morning light." While Maia was certain that it likely didn't make much sense to others, she'd always been rather fascinated with the occupations of her peers' parents. Perhaps, it was because unlike her mother the occupations of her friends' parents were entirely separate from their child. She and her mother had always been close so selecting her mother to be her manager had made practical sense at the time. Prior to her career taking off, the brunette's mother had been the very definition of a helicopter parent. However, nowadays Maia's mother was far more laissez faire as long as her actions didn't endanger her career in anyway.
"Well, that sounds pretty cool. My mom was a beautician for years up until I got signed. Now her sole purpose in life seems to be managing my career."
Much to Maia's dismay, the starlet had yet to make any friends at her new school. Truthfully, she hadn't even had time to carry on an extended conversation with any of her peers. Any information that she'd come by regarding her classmates had come from overhearing idle gossip in the hallways. Which was the only reason that she had any inkling of the ability that her tutee possessed. Still, she wasn't quite sure how it worked and to what extent. If the conversation at hand was to be taken at face value, it would appear that Melody was also unaware of the answers to these questions.
Things had seemed to be going well enough and then the younger's girl's facial expression shifted. Had she said something to offend or upset the dark haired girl, Maia wondered. However, it would appear that her tutee wasn't shy about expressing herself as her thoughts were soon enough translated into words. It was an inquiry that surely the teen should have been expecting and yet somehow it still caught her offguard. Offering her tutee a sheepish grin, the brunette replied "Well, uh... yeah. For the most part. I can read most surface level emotions. Like annoyance, frustration, anxiety and that kind of thing. The sort of thing that most observant people might pick up through facial expressions or body language and then I can do a deeper dive which I call an emotional scan. Which allows me to go deeper into more complex emotions. Like a person could be feeling scared but also excited or exhilarated at the same time. Or a person can be happy and sad at the same time. Emotions are really tricky to navigate."

[googlefont="Comfortaa"] ♡ TAGS WORD COUNT NOTES For most Maia imagined that it was difficult to determine whether or not a person was being sincere, but luckily for the brunette ever since her powers manifested that hadn't been a problem for the teen. Regardless of what a person said or did, their emotions while saying or doing something often revealed their true intentions. It was for this reason that the pop star knew that the smile that the blond offered her was quite genuine. While Maia would hardly consider herself a fashionista, the teenager enjoyed a spontaneous shopping spree as much as any girl. As such, the young girl's closet was filled with any number of designer clothing most of which she rarely wore. Nevertheless, when prodded by Sunny, Maia withdrew her cellphone from her pocket and unlocked the device with a gentle swipe of her finger. Navigating to her photo gallery, the teen sifted through several pictures before landing on a zoomed in photo of a black and white polka dot sling with pink trim and monogram. Tapping the picture to enlarge it, Maia tilted the phone in Sunny's direction so that she could see it. "This one didn't have pockets but it was so cute that I didn't really care. By the time that I transitioned to this sling my arm was nearly healed anyway." As a person whom had always been quite vulnerable, it was a bit difficult for the teenager to imagine what it must be like to be virtually invincible or at the very least believe that you were. Only to find out in the most painful manner that you were most certainly not. For a moment, Maia appeared to be lost in thought before finally responding "That was the first time but unfortunately if you are going to keep working as a superhero, it's highly unlikely to be the last. It's a pretty dangerous field. Even for people with powers since you are likely fighting other people with abilities as well. I'm nowhere near brave enough to attempt to be a hero and honestly, I doubt there would be much use for my ability in crime fighting anyway." To say that Maia found Sunny's train of thought concerning her scar to be a baffling would be a massive understatement. On one hand, Sunny was quite bothered by the physical representation of a hard fought battle that was ultimately lost, and yet on the other she didn't want to conceal the blemish as she expected people would be looking for it in pictures. Offering the other girl a casual shrug, Maia responded "Well, I guess at this point it comes down to a matter of perceptive. You know, how you choose to view the scar. It can be a badge of honor signifying that you survived a terrible ordeal, or it can be a reminder of how you feel that you failed a fan. It's totally up to you." In the past few months, the brunette had performed emotional scans on dozens of people, yet Sunny was by far the most fascinating individual that the teenager had come across to date. A mistake was when you picked up the wrong dry cleaning or someone put pickles on your cheeseburger when you were very clear that you wanted it without pickles, but for Sunny wearing the wrong thing was a mistake. Shaking her head, Maia commented "While I'm not exactly sure if that matches my definition of a mistake, if it were to be one seems like it was on the part of your mom not yours. Unless you were of age to dress yourself, but even still that falls under her purview as your manager. Mistakes like that barely even hold any weight in the grand scheme of things. In the world of celebrity scandals there's definitely something else that will come along to drown out the horror of a bad photo." Maia's nose wrinkled adorably as she considered Sunny's words for several minutes before responding "Not to say that you didn't already but I am sure that this situation has shown you how large of a responsibility it is to protect the public. With this new understanding, there's a slim chance that you will ever allow something like this to happen again. You can train harder and be better prepared next time." Sighing inwardly, the nineteen year old continued "Well, failure is inevitable. It happens to everyone eventually. Or is it the magnitude to which you failed that truly bothers you? Dwelling on it really isn't helping anyone. You just have to learn from it and grow from it." Maia's eyes illuminated rather noticeably when Sunny inquired about the outfit. "Oh, right," the teen stated as she turned the phone back around to face herself and resumed shifting through the photo gallery. Coming to a stop of a photo of herself at an MTV event , the pop star handed the phone to Sunny. Despite the fact that they did both have a mother that managed their careers, judging from their conversation thus far the starlet doubted that the pair had much in common at all. Nevertheless, the brunette smiled warmly at Sunny as she added "I don't know. Maybe we do. I think it would definitely be as jarring for you to walk down the street and not be noticed or immediately recognized as it is for me to walk down the street and have people notice or immediately recognize me." Truthfully, the teen idol could do much more than imagine what it would be like to be so poor that one couldn't afford to go to Disney. Smiling softly Maia answered "Actually, my Disneyless childhood wasn't so bad. I was probably well into my teens before I visited Disney for the first time and I have to say that it was kind of an overrated experience."

- RISE - "Together, we’re gonna rise with the morning light." Ever since her abilities had manifested, Maia had been intrigued by them and had done all that she could to learn how to control them. However, it would seem that in her determination to learn how to master her powers, the teen had neglected to investigate the biological components of her ability. Indeed, the teenager had no real understanding of what had been altered within her to enable her to be able to do what she could do. It was an oversight that the professors at EMBA were determined to rectify. In truth, their intricate attention to detail was proving to be a bit frustrating to the rather impatient teen. The nineteen year old was certain that their investigation had very little to due with understanding how to control her power and more to do with their own personal research. More than anything, Maia had been hoping to discover the limitations of her ability.
At the mention of her dad, Maia's brow quirked slightly. "Your dad says? How would your dad know that? Is he some kind of scientist or something? Or is he just really into metahumans? Like maybe once you manifested, he wanted to learn everything he could about them so he could help you adjust," Maia inquired. Meeting others whose parents were supportive of their kids being metahumans was always something that the pop singer was fascinated by and envious of. Her mother hadn't necessarily been thrilled when her own abilities had manifested, to say the least. Uncertain how her fans would take to her being a metahuman and unsure of how to market her as a meta, her mother had simply opted to hide her power completely.
Smiling warmly, the brunette added "I wish that I could help you with yours, but I am honestly still learning new things every day about my own. Even though I thought that I was in complete control of it. I am sure that your time will come soon though."
The notion of not having ever witnessed her using her power bought an amused smile to the diva's face. If she only knew, Maia mused. Still, she had never really had to put her ability into words before and as such found herself temporarily struggling with providing the requested explanation.
"Well... on the less complicated end. My ability seems to be having the power to read peoples' emotions. On the more complex end of the spectrum, I can pretty much induce any emotion within a person that I want. Joy, Fear, Euphoria, Tranquility and etc. That's the what anyway. The hows are still a little murky. The running theory though is that it has something to do with pheromones. Which interestingly enough, I've been told that some pheromones I produce at a much higher rate than normal people. Particularly, the ones pertaining to um...attraction."

- RISE - "Together, we’re gonna rise with the morning light." While Maia could certainly appreciate the bravery that it must take for a person, especially a teenager these days to be comfortable with standing out and being different from others, nevertheless, it always struck the nineteen year old as a bit odd. She supposed that the fact that so much of her life was in the public eye played a part in the way that she viewed such things. It had been the singer's intention to remain as inconspicuous as possible when enrolling in EMBA and she desired nothing more than to fit in with her peers, but such a thing was proving to be quite impossible for the pop star. Still, she was overjoyed that she wouldn't have to spend a fair amount of their tutorial session translating every paragraph for her tutee as she was certain that eventually Melody would become bored and apparently boredom was what had truly led to the perceived necessity of a tutor. Which made much more sense when the diva thought about it.
She'd picked up quite a bit from Melody in that brief scan she'd done when their hands had grazed and in the fragments of info that she had obtained, nothing had led her to believe that Melody was unintelligent or otherwise incapable of grasping the subject. So, was it perhaps that she simply wasn't being challenged enough? The starlet wasn't really much one for criticizing her professors, however when Melody indicated that the instructor was boring Maia was inclined to agree.
"I'm not sure that boring is exactly the word that I would have used, but is hard challenging to maintain your focus when she's just standing in front of you chanting words at you in rapid succession. It doesn't provide enough of a challenge to keep you invested."
The mention of having to learn on your own how to control one's powers caused a small shiver to run along the diva's spine as she recalled the numerous mishaps that had befallen her when she had initially come into her powers. Some had been more humorous than unpleasant, but she had despised how out of control those instances had made her feel. Shrugging off the recollections, Maia replied "Yeah, I've been there and it wasn't fun at all. Each time my ability advances, it feels like I have basically starting over from scratch. I am really glad that there is a place now for people to go where kids can get help. Especially in instances where someone has a really volatile power. That's definitely not something you want to have to figure out through trial and error."
Truthfully, Maia had some discussions with professors there but she wasn't exactly sure if she could call these sessions actual lessons as she hadn't really learned anything yet of consequence. Or at least anything that she hadn't already known anyway.
"Well, I have met with people about my ability, yes. I haven't really done much practicing yet though. Honestly, I think they are still trying to figure out how it works. Seems that they haven't really come across anyone that can do what I can do or even anyone that an do something similar in nature."

[googlefont="Comfortaa"] ♡ TAGS WORD COUNT NOTES In a way that she suspected was something of a deviation from most celebrities, Maia was often the last to know about what was happening in other celeb's lives unless they were a part of her own personal circle. Truthfully, she unplugged often when she was off tour and relaxing at home as she firmly under the belief that too much social media could be a bad thing. Perhaps it was for this reason that the pop sensation hadn't heard much about Gravity Girl's very public altercation. Of course the starlet had also naturally assumed that injuries merely went along with the territory of being a superhero and most sought privacy while they were in recovery. Then again Gravity Girl wasn't exactly a typical superhero from what she'd heard. Even still, the brunette had always preferred to draw her own conclusions when it came to people. In her experience personality traits were often over exaggerated for shock value. Rarely had she meant anyone whom was completely without redeeming qualities. A soft smile lit Maia's face as Sunny seemed to show interest in the sling that she had described. As a fashion model, the nineteen year was certain that Sunny likely had her pick of designers, some of whom might actually be willing to custom make a sling for her. Nevertheless, the singer had extended the offer as a means of friendship. That and she actually wanted to get a feel for how arrogant the other girl truly might be. Much to her surprise, Sunny responded with a compliment on her taste. Smiling brightly, Maia replied "You know I think I might actually have a picture of it. One of my back up dancers snuck a picture of me in it when I wasn't looking. I can show you if you want, when we sit down." Reaching up with her free hand to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear, Maia continued "Oh my gosh, you must have been so scared. I can't imagine how bad that must hurt. Not to worry though. The scar might not be permanent. With the new developments in cosmetic surgery these days, very few things are. Even if you can't get it fixed that way you can always cover it with makeup. Assuming that you don't actually intend on getting wet that is." As Sunny reflected on how lucky she was to be alive and how grateful she felt for it, Maia's face softened a bit. Perhaps she had misjudged the model, the teenager mused. "You know you really shouldn't be so hard on yourself. Everyone makes mistakes. Even superheroes. No one is perfect. There's no way that you could have known what was going to happen and even if you did then you may not have been able to prevent it. You can't dwell on it or it'll haunt you and you'll never be able to save anyone again. You just have to learn from it and move on. Next time you'll be much more vigilant and much more prepared." Scooping the other cup up from the counter, Maia strolled over to a booth next to the window. Placing Sunny's cup on one side of table and her own on the other, the teen idol slid into the booth. Lifting the cup to her lips, the brunette took a sip before replying adding "Yeah my mom is my manager too. I'm pretty sure that if my mom had her way then I probably would have had a recording deal a long time ago but she obviously didn't have your mom's connections. I don't mind though. I got to have a normal childhood. That's not of course to say that you didn't, but I just figure it must be hard to have been in the spotlight all your life."

- RISE - "Together, we’re gonna rise with the morning light." Maia had always been rather intuitive and the development of her abilities had only seemed to make the teen moreso as she studied Melody's face. Despite the beauty of the younger girl's irises everything about her tutee's body language suggested that the topic of her eyes was one that made Melody quite uncomfortable. Having not been around many metas, the brunette was still growing accustomed to the idea that there were some metas whose abilities manifested themselves in physical ways. Most kids Melody's age just wanted to fit in with their peers and having uniquely colored eyes was bound to make such a thing, a challenge, even for someone as tough as Melody. Her theory seemed to be proved when Melody referred to as the shifting hues of her irises as 'annoying.' With a casual shrug, Maia replied "I don't know. I think it's kind of cool actually. It definitely makes you stand out and you don't seem to be the type of girl that worries about fitting in."
As Melody studied the lyrics scribbled in the notepad, a wave of anxiety washed over the popstar. Being the perfectionist that she was, it was always difficult for Maia to share work that she wasn't completely sure of. Indeed it was rare for the nineteen year old to allow others to witness or be a part of her creative process, but somehow she suspected that in this instance the payoff would be well worth the momentary discomfort. Besides, watching the younger girl work through the lyrics would give her some insight into the younger girl's skill level. Even incomplete, the teen idol could already say that the song was shaping up to be one of the best songs that she'd ever written as it as it told the story of a girl struggling to escape the box that society had placed her in.
Much to Maia's surprise and delight, Melody hadn't asked her once to translate a sentence or what a specific word meant. Which had to mean that Melody could at the very least comprehend written Spanish so perhaps the issue was with pronunciation. Maia had been solidifying her lesson plan when Melody concluded that she "got it." Nodding in response, the brunette replied "Well, maybe you won't need as much help as the teacher seems to think that you do. If you were able to translate that then you are actually further along then most of your classmates. Reading Spanish is much harder than speaking it ,in my mind because you have to have a firm understanding of conjugation and sentence structure." Smiling softly as Melody voiced her uncertainty of her skill level when it came to writing lyrics, Maia answered "Yeah, I thought the same thing. Still do, but for some reason my songs seem to resonate with a lot of people. So, I guess you never know till you try. It goes back to that whole being our worse critic thing."
An amused smile flitted across the teen's face as she responded "Yeah, there's like literally one school that helps you learn how to use your powers...this one. So, I guess it technically won out over the others by default. I felt like I had pretty much gotten as far as I could with trying to sort out my ability on my own. I don't feel like I've tapped into the full potential of my ability and I definitely haven't mastered it yet."

- RISE - "Together, we’re gonna rise with the morning light." "No, no that's OK."
It wasn't the enthusiastic acceptance that Maia had hoped for, but she supposed that indifference might be the best that she could expect when it came to Melody. While the brunette understood that it wasn't quite necessary to be liked in order to provide her services as a tutor, she imagined that it had to help at least a little. For most the other girl's reaction or lack thereof likely would have no effect, however the teenager was certainly not like most people. Courtesy of her ability, the nineteen year old songstress tended to make friends rather easily and was often beloved by those that met her and knew her. It was strange to encounter a person whom wasn't immediately enchanted by her.
"Yeah."
Wow, seriously tough crowd, the nineteen year old thought to herself as Melody half heartedly agreed to getting started with the lesson. Sure, Spanish wasn't the most fascinating subject to study, particularly the way that their professor taught it, but still it wasn't the dullest either. Curiously, Melody had found the lesson plan just about as fascinating as she herself had, so at least they seemed to be able to find common ground on that front. Her as of yet unannounced modifications to the lesson plan, however seemed to perk her tutte's interest. In fact, Melody even lifted her gaze to meet Maia's for the first time since the pop star had first introduced herself as Melody's tutor.
Progress, the singer thought to herself as a glimmer of hope filtered into the teen's dark orbs. Being able to get her first proper look at the other girl, Maia was stunned. The younger girl's eyes were a magnificent shade of silver unlike any that she'd ever seen before. "Wow, your eyes are breathtaking. If you don't mind my saying so that is," Maia breathed. "Are they naturally that color or is that a meta thing," the diva inquired. Maia's cheeks tinged a faint pink as she realized that her inquiry might have seemed a bit insensitive. Bashfully, the starlet dug into her bag and withdrew a notepad. Placing it on the table, she flipped it open and shifted through a few pages before coming to one where she'd scribbled down a series of lyrics. Smiling conspiratorially Maia continued "Ok, so first of all I have to tell you that you are the first one to see this so I am really trusting you not to leak it."
"That being said, I am working on a new album and this will be the first song on it. This one is going to be much different than the others because it's going to be a Spanish cross over. As you can see these lyrics are in Spanish and it is unfinished. We can go through the first verse together. The second verse I want you to write but it will have to be written completely in Spanish. Eventually, we will compose an entire song that will be featured on my album with you being credited."
While she should have suspected that eventually someone would inquire as to why she would come here, nevertheless the question caught Maia a little offguard. Perhaps, she had expected that at the very least it wouldn't have happened quite this soon. Grinning sheepishly, Maia added "Well, it's actually not so bad here. Definitely a step up from schools that I have visited. Supposedly, this is supposed to be an institution that will teach you how to master your abilities and... I guess I can use as much help as I can get in that regard."

[googlefont="Comfortaa"] ♡ TAGS WORD COUNT NOTES In many ways, the concept of real live superheroes was still one that Maia still struggled to wrap her head around. In all the movies, comic books and TV shows that she'd ever seen caped crusaders swooped in saved the day and vanished quietly into the night, but nowadays they posed for photo ops, signed autographs, and conducted interviews. It was kind of weird actually. Of course she hadn't wanted to say that to Sunny as it would have seemed unimaginably rude. Gods, she was cranky this morning, Maia noted. The hero program seemed to be churning out new heroes everyday and it was beginning to get difficult to keep track of who was who unless that particular hero did something that really stood out or had such amazing PR that they were on the scene of every crime. Gravity Girl seemed to belong to the latter group now that Maia thought about it. Although, she did recall seeing something on the news recently about the pink clad hero. There had been some kind of event where a person was harmed...no.... killed. Someone had been killed at a high profile gathering that Gravity Girl had been attending. It was just then that Maia noticed that the girl's arm was in a sling. Likely as a result of her superhero work, Maia reasoned. Especially as she'd heard that Gravity Girl had been badly wounded in the altercation. A sympathetic expression settled on Maia's face as she gestured towards the sling "That looks like it hurts pretty bad. How much longer do you have to wear that? I had to wear one once when I slipped on a slick floor in the studio and landed on my arm. They are so clunky. Not to mention that they clash with EVERYTHING. I have a designer friend that makes decorative slings and he made me the cutest checkered patterned one. It even had a pocket for my cellphone. He just did a pink and black damask one that would look amazing on you." As Sunny indicated that she wished for people to know who she was, an amused smile flickered across the diva's face. Well, she certainly wasn't an old fashioned hero, wasn't she? "That's really brave of you. If I was a hero, I would be worried about someone that I care for being dragged into my hero work if I let people know who I really was. Although, I totally get the mascara thing. It can take me forever to wing my liner just right and it is totally annoying to go through all that effort just for no one to see it. Not to mention that it could also ruin your hair." Politely, Maia took the cup that the barista extended towards her with one hand and the pen in the other. Hastily scribbling out the message "To Diana with love, Maia Morales", Maia handed the cup and pen back to the clerk. She would have loved to make the note far more flowery and personal but the cup really didn't provide for such a thing. Smiling a little shyly at Sunny, the nineteen year old replied "Honestly, I am still kind of getting used to the whole thing. I mean I've been doing this for a while, but the idea that I have like fans... it actually so surreal to me." A few minutes later, the starlet lifted her drink from the counter as her name was called. Almost immediately after she removed her drink, the barista called Sunny's name. Shooting a glance towards the superhero, Maia inquired "You want me to get that for you? You are at a bit of a disadvantage there?"

- RISE - "Together, we’re gonna rise with the morning light." Admittedly, Maia's sense of humor could be dry as the Sahara desert at times, but had her lame attempt at calming the other girl's nerves really failed that miserably, Maia questioned as she noted the awkward expression on Melody's face. Tough crowd, the teenager mused. The teen had expected a mouthy, sarcastic, uncooperative young woman whom was likely quite bright but disinterested in applying herself on a scholastic level. Surprisingly, the girl in front of her seemed to be none of those things. In fact, she was damn near polite. Had the Spanish teacher simply misjudged the student or was something else at play here? The nineteen year old couldn't help but to feel curious about the drastic shift in demeanor. Sure, the younger girl was a fan but surely that fact alone couldn't be the sole source of her newfound muteness. This was by far the most challenging tutoring session that the pop star had had to date and it hadn't even started yet. Strangely, despite having frowned upon the ability in the past, Maia now found herself wishing that she could read minds. Perhaps, if she could sort out what was bothering Melody then their interactions going forward would be far less awkward. With her nerves this frazzled, the likelihood the other girl retaining anything that they went over would seem quite slim. For most, the simple act of wiping one's hands on their jeans would certainly be no cause for alarm, and yet the diva's over analytical mind went into overdrive. Why had she done that? Typically, when she shook hands with or hugged a fan, they literally gushed that they would never launder the limb or item in question ever again. Yet Melody had immediately rubbed her hands on her pants leg as if she hadn't cared for the contact at all. Were there perhaps such personal space or boundary issues that Maia had failed to pick up on? The young woman had displayed the sort of emotional profile that was often synonymous with those of most of her fans, yet she appeared repulsed by the starlet's touch?
Was it possible that somehow she'd misread the situation entirely and it turned out that Melody disliked her? As she was pondering this, Melody plopped down on a bench and began withdrawing her books from her bag. Concluding that perhaps it was best that they go ahead and get started if for no other reason than the cessation of her overanalyzing, Maia followed suit. Interesting, the brunette thought to herself as Melody failed to take her up on her offer for another tutor. As Maia had just parted her lips to inquire if she was certain, the brunette went on to say that she didn't believe that they would allow her to select her own tutor anyway. So.... was she accepting her tutelage begrudgingly, Maia wondered.
"Um, ok. Well I mean... let me know if you change your mind. I could speak to them on your behalf if it came down to it. I can be pretty persuasive when I want to be."
As Melody rushed to clarify herself, Maia found herself resisting the urge to quirk her brow in response. Clearing her throat awkwardly, the brunette added
"Thanks for the vote of confidence. To be honest, this is actually my first session, so I guess we'll have to see what your test scores look like before we can determine how great I am. Speaking of which... we should probably get started."
Digging a manila folder out of her bag, Maia flipped it open and withdrew several sheets of paper. Plucking them out of the folder, Maia showed them to the younger girl saying "The teacher gave me the lesson plan for today but to be honest it's boring as hell so I don't think we're going to follow it. The gist of it seems to be conjugation. I find that writing in Spanish for some is easier than speaking it for some and it helps with things like conjugation, sentence structure, and drastically enhances your vocabulary. So, I think for today's assignment maybe you could help me with a special project that I have been tossing around in my head for a bit. Definitely beats reciting "Yo, Tu, El, Ella, Ustead fifty times. So, what do you say? Interested?"

[googlefont="Comfortaa"] ♡ TAGS WORD COUNT NOTES On an average day, patience was typically a virtue that the pop star tended to have in spades, however surprisingly Maia was discovering that her patience seemed to be in very short supply today. The end was near, she could see it. The counter where she would place her order and soon enough be presented with beloved beverage was clearly in sight and yet the battle weary mother with her two small children in tow seemed completely unable to decide what she wanted. Of course the little girl tugging on her mom's shirt and the squirming toddler in the woman's arms likely weren't helping matters. However, neither of these contributing factors were doing much to assuage Maia's vexation. Particularly, as the nineteen year old was acutely aware of the series of exasperated sighs that were being emitted every few minutes as the red faced mother of two continue to stammer apologies to the compassionate barista. As the teen was growing more and more agitated by the minute, a insistent buzzing at her hip diverted the teenager's attention away from her annoyance and back to the pressing matter of her hectic schedule. Digging the device from her pocket, Maia glanced down at the phone screen to see a barrage of new notifications. Her agent must be freaking out, Maia realized as she took note of the time. The pop star had just been about to respond to the incessant 'Where are you?' messages when a high pitched squeal startled her. To her dismay, Maia glanced up to find herself staring into the dark brown eyes of the perky, blond that was standing in front of her. The girl looked vaguely familiar to the starlet, but it was hard to put her finger on where she knew her from. Especially as the girl's scream had drawn the attention of several patrons who were now staring at the pair of them. The diva's cheeks flushed under the watchful gaze of the other customers even as the blond lowered her voice. As there no longer seemed to be any point in anonymity, Maia offered the blond a sheepish smile as she replied "Guilty." Upon hearing that the girl was a superhero, the brunette quirked a brow. "Oh, yeah I've heard of her. Or.... of you rather. Although I'm not sure you were supposed to tell me that. Aren't heroes supposed to maintain their secret identities," Maia inquired. However, before the blond was able to respond, the barista summoned her over to place her order. Despite having been in the music business for several years now, the brunette still found it somewhat difficult to get used to the idea of having fans. Least of all meta fans. While Maia was contemplating the contrast between Sunny's exterior appearance and the power that she'd seen gravity girl display, the barista gestured her over to place her order. Finally, Maia thought with exuberance as she scurried over to the counter. "I'd like a strawberry and cream Frappuccino with double cream, a shot of vanilla and a shot of caramel," the nineteen year old declared. Reaching over to unzip her purse, Maia had just dug out her credit card when she caught sight out of her peripheral of the barista returning. That was fast, the teen thought to herself. As she lifted her gaze to meet that of the woman behind the counter she noted that the woman was extended an empty cup towards her. A bit baffled, Maia had parted her lips to indicate that she didn't understand when the barista blurted out "Please... if you don't mind. My kid loves you! Could you make it out to Diana?"

- RISE - "Together, we’re gonna rise with the morning light." The perplexity on the younger girl's face was curious to Maia as Melody's gaze darted anxiously about the library as if in search for something or perhaps even someone. But whom, was the burning question in Maia's mind. Was she supposed to be tutoring more than just Melody? The teacher certainly hadn't said as much to her about taking on more than one tutee at a time. Was she displeased with her as a tutpr? Seemed hard to imagine that would be the case if they hadn't even begun their first session yet. The professor had warned her that Melody might prove to be a challenge, but if she couldn't even get the girl to shake her hand then this arrangement was doomed before it even began. With the awkward silence between the pair growing more and more unnerving by the minute Maia had just parted her lips to inquire as if to whether Melody was alright and suggest that perhaps they should reschedule for another time when the other girl finally reached out and grasped her hand.
The gesture were followed by words that Maia assumed were meant to be a greeting of some sort but somehow failed to hit the mark. "She speaks," Maia teased in an effort to lighten the mood a bit. The greeting was then followed by yet another failed attempt at coherent communication, however the gist of it seemed to be an apology for her tardiness. As a general rule, the brunette made a conscious effort not to read people of whom she was unfamiliar with or without their permission, but somehow in this case the pop star felt that doing so might very well be the only way that they could move forward. If she could figure out what was prompting this sudden surge of bashfulness then maybe she could come up with a way to counteract it. Holding her classmate's hand for perhaps a moment longer than necessary, Maia briefly met Melody's gaze just long enough to perform an emotional scan on the younger girl.
Shock, confusion, and...excitement? Hmmm, she wouldn't have thought her a fan, Maia mused to herself with a smile. Well, now things were starting to make a little more sense. This sort of sheepishness was thankfully easily resolved, the nineteen year old realized as she felt a familiar heat sweeping through the palm of her hand. The sensation was brief but lasted long enough for the starlet to release as many soothing pheromones as she could in that short spans of time before releasing Melody's hand. Certain that the effects of her ability had never before been instantaneous, the diva could only assume that the younger girl had regained her wits on her own as she finally seemed to find her tongue. Nodding in response to Melody's inquiry Maia replied "That I am. Assuming that's cool with you of course. They will never tell you this, but you do have a right to request another tutor if you want. I'm sure I read that in the bylines somewhere."

- RISE - "Together, we’re gonna rise with the morning light." After about a week of foregoing her private tutors in the name of living out the experience of a normal teenaged girl, Maia was coming to discover that being educated in a classroom environment left much to be desired. The days of having the teacher's undivided attention were behind her and if there was something that she didn't understand or grasp immediately, then she'd have to schedule time with the teacher to discuss at a later date. There was also an insane amount of restrictions when learning in a classroom. She needed to permission to do everything and worse of all, she wasn't allowed to keep her phone on her person. The latter had taken the most getting used to as her phone was constantly ringing with calls from her agent. She'd insisted upon arrival that she wasn't looking for any special treatment and EMBA had delivered in full on their end of that agreement.
If there was anything at all positive about her experience thus far, it was that her tutor had insisted on educating her far above and beyond what was standard for her age and grade level. At the time Maia had found the extraneous work tedious, however since starting at EMBA, Maia quickly discovered that quite a bit of the material currently being taught she'd already learned in her previous lessons. Which put her at a slight advantage to her classmates prompting EMBA to not only place her in advanced level classes but to also designate her as a tutor for classes that she truly excelled at. Initially, Maia hadn't been entirely thrilled with the idea, until it was explained that her tutoring sessions would count as class credit eliminating the need for her to take classes that she wasn't too fond of.
Today's tutee was struggling in Spanish, a subject that she was aptly suited to mentor in as she, herself was bilingual. The Spanish instructor had already forewarned her that the student might be a handful, but Maia preferred to remained optimistic. A disposition that was getting more and more difficult to maintain by the minute as the teen glanced down at her watch. Sure, it was possible that Melody may very well have just been running late or had gotten turned around but truthfully, the pop star was beginning to suspect that she'd been stood up. Resolving to give the girl another 10 minutes before giving up completely on today's session and reporting Melody's absence, Maia had been just about to gather her belongings and exit the library when she heard a soft voice greeting her. Turning to see a brunette with the most fascinating eyes that she'd ever seen, the nineteen year old gracefully rose from the booth.
Turning towards Melody, Maia flashed the younger girl a bright smile as she extended her hand. "Melody, right? I was starting to worry that you wouldn't show. That would have been so mortifying, so I am really glad you didn't stand me up," Maia started. As an afterthought, the brunette added "I'm Maia Morales by the way. I saw you in ballet class, but I don't think that we were properly introduced."

[googlefont="Comfortaa"] ♡ TAGS WORD COUNT NOTES Caffeine, Caffeine, Caffeine. The words played through Maia's mind over and over again like a song stuck on a loop as the teen scurried towards the entrance of her favorite coffee shop. The pop sensation had been sequestered in a glass booth for several hours laying down tracks for an upcoming album. Had it been left up to the engineer, the session likely would have been completed over an hour ago, but the perfectionist within the teenager simply couldn't rest until she had executed that riff flawlessly. Sure, autotuned could have easily masked the imperfection in that particular lyric and none would be the wiser, but Maia had never been a big fan of audio processors. In her opinion heavy reliance on such technology allowed one to become a bit sloppy with their vocals. Unless the singer was simply going to lip sync for all their concerts eventually their shortcomings were bound to be revealed. So, why not put that time, effort, and money into actually honing your craft? With the session having ran over, the brunette was left with very little time to prepare for her upcoming shoot. As it were the teen would likely have just enough time to grab a cup of coffee take a quick shower and make her way over to the set. Scrambling into the Starbucks, Maia was more than a bit dismayed to find a rather long line ahead of her. Frowning the nineteen year old glanced down at her wristwatch before shifting her fretful gaze back to the line. Being late was always frowned upon when you had to wait to be styled, made-up and dressed which took so much time in and of itself without considering positioning and lighting to land the perfect shot. However, foregoing her daily strawberries and crème Frappuccino was likely to put the singer in a irritable state and that didn't bode well for anyone. She'd simply have to wait, Maia concluded as she slipped in line behind a rather exasperated looking man in a dress shirt and slacks with a sleek briefcase tucked under his arm. He appeared to be in every bit as much of a hurry as she herself was which prompted a bout of guilt to wash over the teen as she gently tapped the man on the shoulder. Agitation was thick in the businessman's tone as he whirled around snapping "What do you want," at the young woman. Widening her eyes, Maia batted her lashes, her voice soft and smooth as silk as she inquired "Sorry to bother you, but I'm in a terrible hurry. Would you mind too much if I..." While her voice broke off in mid sentence, her gaze flitted past him clearing communicating her meaning. Maia could never be sure at any time whether it was her natural charisma and charm that prompted most to be so agreeable with her or if it was merely a byproduct of the way that her pheromones manifested. It was the old "did the chicken come first or the egg" quandary. Either way as he stared into her gentle smile, the man's hard features softened as his nodded his agreement and stepped aside allowing her to move in front of him right behind a short blonde.

Maia MoralesTHEY CALL ME DEVIL, AND YOU SHOULD BE AFRAID As she volunteered to go next, something of a hush had fallen over the other students. She'd hoped that her volunteering to go next would have inspired others to want to participate as well, but it would seem that possibly having done so had the opposite effect and had in fact made matters much worse. The brunette took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. Perhaps, showing the other teens that she was just a normal girl might be a bit more challenging than she had originally anticipated. Was it possible that her offering to go next was being viewed as showing off by the other students? She certainly hoped not, as that hadn't been her intention at all. Truthfully, it just seemed fun to finally get a chance to let go a little. To get up in front of a group of people with absolutely no idea what to do, no staging, no prepared choreography, no bright lights blinding her... it would be such a rush!
Sighing inwardly, Maia had taken a couple of steps forward when the dark-haired girl with the boundless energy volunteered to perform next in a rather adamant tone as she leaped up and ran into the center of the room. As she zoned in on the dark-haired girl, Maia could sense agitation on the other girl's part but its origin was lost on her. Has she unintentionally cut in line when she stated her intention to go next? The singer didn't have long to contemplate as the teen struck a pose and the brunette felt her attention being drawn towards the dancer. The performance was compelling in its eccentricity. The moves seemed disjointed and yet strangely on beat as if there was a melody that the dancer was listening to that the other students couldn't hear. Every eye in the room was trained on the dark-haired teen, mesmerized with her motions.
Sort of like watching a train wreck, really. Fascinating in its morbidity. The dance lasted for far longer than anyone else's had yet surprisingly Maia's attention never wavered. In fact, come to think of it... no one's attention seemed to shift for the entirety of the young girl's dance. It was kind of weird...creepy even. Once the brunette finally found herself able to tear her gaze away from the scene in front of her, Maia put her hands together into an applause that was rather lackluster. Although she had missed the first half of the class, somehow the teen suspected that the intention of this exercise wasn't to tear one another down, and yet the dancer had requested feedback. It was something of a catch 22 for the brunette, It would be rude to disregard her request and yet could also be off putting to offer a genuine critique. How was one even supposed to critique a freestyle when she couldn't even identify what genre of dance that had been? Interpretive? Contemporary?
Truthfully, the teenager was still trying to figure out what she'd just seen. "Well, it definitely left an impression. I would honestly hate to have to be the one to follow that," Maia started. The wors were sincere for more reasons than one. If she performed next then she was sure to steal the other girl's thunder and that wasn't what she'd come here to do. To be honest, Maia was growing weary of always being pitted against other girls. It was such a waste of energy. Besides, her most recently released single "Love Somebody" was charting at No. 1 on the billboard for the third week in a row. She didn't have anything to prove here. Smiling sweetly at the dark haired girl, Maia added "In fact, I think I will sit this one out. I think we all just need some time to digest all that awesomeness."
