[attr="class","sensestextbox"]As she was introducing herself to Scrap, the brunette couldn't help but to note how odd of a feeling it was. Typically, when she was out on the town someone would approach and ask her if she was Maia Morales or they would tell her that she was as if she didn't already know, but never did she have to tell them who she was AND what she did for a living. She supposed that meeting Scrap was somewhat of a humbling experience in that regard. Sneaking the vagabond out the front seemed to be their only option but it wasn't going to be a easy sell. Even though it was clear to the brunette now that the drifter meant her no harm her guards would be far more discerning than she had been. If she insisted then they would stand down, but certainly wouldn't be pleased about it and would likely increase her security detail which was the last thing that she wanted.
In a flash Scrap's fear had returned and with a much higher intensity than before. This seemed to be particularly true when the teen turned around to find her still standing there. It was both brave and admirable if not a bit foolish that the younger girl was trying so valiantly to protect her, but it was just not in the singer's nature to abandon someone in their hour of need. "I can't just leave you to deal with them alone. Come with..." Before Maia could make the suggestion that they make a break for it together to find her guards whom would them be forced to protect them both, the door flew open prompting them both to whirl around and face the new set of intruders. The larger man's vexation was rolling off of him in waves as he locked gazes with the wayward teenager seemingly completely oblivious to her presence. Despite the fact that Scrap was doing her best to soothe the goon's ruffled feathers, the starlet couldn't ignore the nefarious intent that she was feeling from these hoodlums.
The pained expression on the waif's face wasn't lost on the teenager as Scrap inquired was she was doing. With a knowing smile, Maia simply replied "Trust me." Regrettably, the teen idol had not yet learned how to focus her pheromones in just one direction or towards certain people for that matter. In fact, Maia wasn't altogether sure that such a thing was possible. As a result, the younger girl had likely gotten in the path of them as well. A theory that was later proved as Scrap stepped away from almost at the exact same time as the leaner of the depraved duo went ashen and also took a step back. The hulking hooligan, on the other hand was either not affected or had simply opted not to allow himself to be intimidated. Either way, he'd chosen the route of being a tough guy. Even going as far as to tilt his chin in such a way that his rather unsettling tattoo was visible. A clear attempt to intimidate her.
So, he clearly wanted to play hard ball huh? Alright then, game on. Keeping a steady gaze on the towering figure lurking in the doorway, Maia took a couple of steps forward. With a smirk flitting across her lips, the brunette replied calmly "Alright then. Come get her." That said, Maia once again cleared her mind this time filling her head with the most loving thoughts that she could muster. As she did so the tingling of her skin intensified slightly.

You leave me here wondering if I'll ever know How much you care, or how much you don't If you're going to be somebody's last time, baby be mine. “ Over the past month, the brunette had spent a fair amount of time trying to familiarize herself with the layout of the Evergreen Metahuman Boarding Academy campus. Which she had come to discover was deceptively massive. Still, she hadn't gotten lost in two weeks now so that was progress at least. Of the numerous buildings that comprised the campus, the singer had likely spent the least amount of time in the school's canteen. Regardless of the institution, it seemed to be a well known fact that school lunches were notoriously unhealthy and according to some students downright disgusting. Ever since her career began the teenager's mother/manager had placed her on a rather strict diet that most certainly didn't include greasy pizza and fries. In fact, her mother would likely have a fit if she were to see the academy's current offerings. Somehow, that knowledge tempted the teen to request the exact meal that would cause her mother to have a meltdown. However, it would seem that habit won out as she took the plastic tray from Melody selecting a salad, fresh fruit and an unsweetened tea for her lunch. In many ways, becoming a celebrity had somewhat ruined the pop singer from a social perspective. She spent so much time avoiding the paparazzi that it seemed odd to be walking about so freely. Every now and then a few students made a big fuss but things had certainly settled down since her first day here. So, this is what it felt like to be a normal girl, the starlet thought to herself as she lifted the tray and strolled across the canteen after Melody. Placing it gently down on the table, Maia slid into the vacant seat beside Melody. It had been so nice of the younger girl to invite her to have lunch as it seemed that the pair were becoming friends, but something still seemed a bit...off. It wasn't until the teen idol sat down next to Melody that she was able to put her finger on just what was off. Melody was flustered again. As much as she liked to consider herself a normal teenager it would seem that the younger girl struggled to view her as such. Still, she had asked Maia to eat with her so that had to indicate some progress right? Unless...unless she had expected her to say no. Laughing inwardly, the nineteen year old her head as a ghost of a smile flickered across her face. Melody picked at her lunch half heartedly prompting Maia to wonder if it was because of her presence at the table or the food was simply not appetizing. "To be honest, I think that this might be the first time I've been in here. Outside the tour of course. I probably should be studying during lunch time to be honest, but I just tend to eat in my room. I have dietary restrictions so my mother insisted that I bring along my personal chef."

- RISE - "Together, we’re gonna rise with the morning light." While Maia fairly certain that Melody's enthusiasm in returning to her lesson spoke far more to her dedication to avoiding a topic that she didn't wish to discuss than Maia's ability to motivate her pupil, nevertheless the singer preferred to believe that it was because she was a competent tutor. Being a native Spanish speaker gave the singer an edge over Melody's current professor in that her pronunciation was superior and her vocabulary was far more extensive. Sure, the cantankerous older woman could teach Melody proper conversational dialogue, but she could teach her tutee slang as well to fit in a little better. Having spoken the language her entire life, the brunette could definitely tell the difference between someone who was a native and a fluent speaker whom had learned Spanish as a second language.
Although, the pair had gotten off to a rough start with Melody arriving late and soaking up a lot of their time in the process, Maia could still honestly say that she was pleased to have been paired with Melody. Not only because the girl was a fan but because she was more advanced than some of the other students that she'd worked with. The teenager hadn't had to do nearly as much hand holding with the younger girl. For the most part, she'd been able to leave Melody alone with the task that she'd given her. There was no way that she'd have been able to give another of her tutees the assignment that she'd given Melody as surely 25 minutes later they'd likely be still staring at a blank sheet of paper unsure of where to start.
Even with the complexity of the task, Melody hadn't even made that many mistakes proving that she'd been correct in her initial assessment of the girl's skill with the subject. Melody held great promise and could easily become fluent if she applied herself. There in and of itself was likely where the true challenge lie. Melody's voice piping up beside her pulled the teen from her reverie as the younger girl pointed towards an error that she'd highlighted in her review. Nodding, she replied "Yes, the whole 'a' versus 'o' thing throws a lot of people off. Most people don't realize that a is feminine and o is masculine. They just use them interchangeably. So like if you are female from Cuba you would refer to yourself as Cubana as opposed to Cubano."
As Melody took up the pen once more, Maia returned her gaze to her tablet. One of her favorite things to do was not only reading what her fans tweeted and posted about her but replying to their posts and interacting with them. As she was tapping out a gracious thank you to a podcast that had referred to her as an up and coming artist to keep their eye on, the teen idol sensed her tutee's frustration. Without looking up from the tablet, the pop star said "Don't overthink it. It's just the first draft. We can tweak it as much as necessary before I take it into the studio. Just relax and have fun with it."
As the bell rang, Maia slipped her tablet back inside its protective cover as Melody passed the pad back to her apologizing for getting stuck in mid lyric. Shrugging casually, Maia answered "No biggie. I can take me anywhere from several hours to weeks and sometimes even months to get my lyrics right and that's even when I'm inspired. The downside of being a perfectionist, I guess." Slipping both the pad and tablet into her tote, the nineteen year old rose slowly from her seat. Zipping the bag, she had just slid the strap over her should as an uncharacteristically bashful Melody stammered her inquiry. Beaming at the young girl she replied "Absolutely! I missed breakfast this morning. I guess my body is still trying to get used to this new schedule. I never wake up this early usually. "

[googlefont="Comfortaa"] ♡ TAGS WORD COUNT NOTES Admittedly, the revelation that Sunny wasn't aware of the color's ties with the royal family was a bit of a surprise to Maia. She had been sure that such a thing would be fairly common knowledge for someone as fashion forward as Sunny. Beaming brightly at the blonde, Maia tucked a lock of hair behind her ear as she replied "Oh, yeah. Totally. The Queen of England even decreed once that only royalty and close relatives of the royal family would be allowed to wear purple. Which honestly was a bit unnecessary because back then purple was such a rare color and it was so hard to create that it was super expensive. Basically only royalty could afford it anyway." Indeed, the brunette's guilty pleasure was her secret fascination with monarchies and the medieval period. Laughing softly as Sunny declared that royal color aside she'd still insist on having everything pink, Maia added "Of course that doesn't mean that you have to only wear purple. It just means that only you would be allowed to wear purple. So if the royal color was pink, only you and your family could wear pink. No one else in the kingdom could." For a reason that she didn't immediately understand, the teenager suddenly began to pick up wistfulness with a hint of awkwardness radiating from Sunny. As the superhero went on to explain her difficulty in making and keeping friends, the teen offered her a sympathetic smile. After having spent the past half hour with the supermodel, the singer could understand why Gravity Girl might have some trouble making friends. It wasn't that the blonde was sweet or even friendly for that matter, but rather that she was just...a lot. Exhausting, really. Shrugging the pop star responded "Well, having tons of friends is overrated. All you really need is a few close ones anyway. Two or three tops. Anything outside of that are just decorative." Nodding her agreement regarding the alignment of Sunny's opponent the nineteen year old added "Well, yeah. Most villains do tend to lean more towards evil. Although I suppose that there are a few that might fall somewhere between amoral and psychopath. That's probably why we consider them villains. Either way, I suppose that won't be the last time that you face off against someone with such a blatant disregard for human life. You may never be able to get into their head, but it's probably best not to underestimate them." A somewhat bashful smile flickered across the teen idol's face at the compliment. "Oh, I am sure that you could pull off the same looks just as well if not maybe even better if given the opportunity," Maia commented modestly. As Sunny explained the shift in costume that from mid drift to something even more conservative than what she already wore, the brunette resisted the urge to chuckle. Partially because bare mid drift was being considered 'too sexy' and partially because the designers seemed to have gone to an extreme that even the real life superhero it was modeled after somewhat disapproved. The teen's eyes illuminated slightly with recognition as she continued "Oh, right! The animated show! I've seen that. My goddaughter loves that show. She watches it all the time. So, I guess I get it but bare mid drift really isn't that big of a deal. I've seen much worse. Especially when it comes to anime." Grinning Maia said "That actually sounds like fun and remember that you promised it would be fun so you have your word. Close to Halloween actually works since I will be in Miami in October anyway. I did a few songs on the soundtrack for a new movie they have coming out so they kind of know me around there too."

[attr="class","sensesborder"] [attr="class","sensestable"] [attr="class","sensestextbox"]As Maia closed the door, the pop singer was vaguely aware that whomever had left it ajar in the first place would not be able to get back in, but she simply couldn't risk someone else sneaking in here. Especially if people on the street somehow discovered where it led. They'd simply have to go back in through the front which they should have done in the first place instead of placing her at risk like that. It would seem that her assertion that the intruder wasn't a fan proved to be accurate. However, the brunette was admittedly a little taken aback as Scrap confessed to not knowing who she was. Of course the teen had encountered several people who weren't exactly fans of her music. You couldn't please everyone after all, but to not have heard of her period...well that was definitely a first. "Well, it's nice to meet you Scrap. I'm Maia and the room that you just barged into is my dressing room. I am a singer and I'm supposed to be performing here tonight."
A place to hang low? So then she was hiding from someone...or...something? Interesting, the teenager mused. Well, she supposed now that the ball was proverbially in her court. She could allow the girl to 'hang low' or she could insist that she leave whether it meant that she got tangled up with her guards or caught by whatever she was running from. The revelation that her dressing room was being guarded seemed to frustrate the other teen quite a bit, but surely she had to have known that was a possibility. The venue itself was heavily guarded on most sides and visibly so. The teen frowned causing little worry lines to crease her forehead as she contemplated the issue before her. Harm would most likely befall the girl if she left through the back and there was virtually nothing that she could do about that. However, she might be able to help her get out through the front. "Well, I suppose that I could tell my guards to stand down if you wanted to take your chances going through the front. If I tell them that you're..."
The pop star's voice trailed off as a sickening thud could be heard from outside of her dressing room door. "What the..." Maia muttered. While the sound was disturbing to her, it seemed to kick Scrap's fear back into high drive as the younger girl stood in front of her placing herself between the starlet and the door whose knob was violently turning. At Scrap's explanation, the teen idol shifted her gaze back to the door. It didn't make much sense that a meta or even a group of them would be hunting a lowly human which would suggest that Scrap was most likely a meta as well. Well, that certainly explained a lot, she rationalized. Maia had no idea who was on the other side of that door, but what she did know was that the Scrap was terrified of them and the brunette didn't feel at all comfortable leaving her alone to face them. Especially if the girl's trackers had managed to take down her guards as she suspected from the thud earlier that they had. The nineteen year old wasn't given much more time to contemplate her next course of action as just then the door burst open and a mountain of a man barged in followed by a much younger and leaner man whom looked positively scrawny in comparison.
Having just about had her fill of her privacy being invaded, Maia stepped forward so that she was standing beside Scrap. Glaring icily at the pair, the singer cleared her mind focusing all of her attention on making herself appear to be as intimidating as possible. As she did so, the teen could feel a prickling sensation along her skin as it warmed to the touch. In a tone that was much more menacing than it should be for such a slender young girl, Maia hissed "I don't know who you are and I frankly don't care. Get out of my dressing room and leave this kid alone."

- RISE - "Together, we’re gonna rise with the morning light." While Maia most often complained about how the intensity of other peoples' emotions caused her physical discomfort another pain point of her ability that was equally frustrating for the teen was having to disregard what she sensed. This was particularly difficult when the emotion was negative in nature and the person emitting it was perturbed. Blessed with a tender heart, it was in the brunette's nature to help whomever she could, whenever she could. Being forced to feign ignorance when she knew something to be very wrong was borderline torturous for the teenager. Nothing that she had picked up from Melody since sitting down at the table would suggest that the younger girl harbored a secret dedication to her studies. Which could only mean that her tutee was avoiding something. It was a conclusion that the singer had managed to draw even without the confirmation that her power provided her. It was more than a little maddening to know what someone was feeling but to be completely lost as to the origin. Sort of like a book where all the pages leading up to the final chapter had been ripped out leaving you with only the ending, but no beginning or middle. As a general rule of thumb, Maia typically didn't disclose her ability to others. However, when you attended a school in which everyone was a meta with special abilities it would stand to reason that others would curious as to what you could do. Especially when you were in the public eye and there were no external cues as to your power. Not that she was ashamed of her ability or even that she regretted telling Melody what it was, but rather she knew that their interaction would inevitably change now. Sighing inwardly, the singer pressed the play button on her phone and set the device down on the table, allowing Melody to get to her 'assignment.' Uncertain how long it would take the younger girl to complete the task that she'd been given, Maia sifted through her bag until she located her tablet. Digging it out, the nineteen year old powered the device on and opened her browser. Navigating to twitter, the teen idol busied herself with scrolling through her newsfeed. While Maia wasn't particularly vain, the starlet was quite fascinated with fanpages dedicated to herself. The artwork was always impressive. Maia couldn't help but to be astounded by the talent of her fans and humbled by the fact that they took the time to create such beautiful images of her. More often than not, the brunette ended up selecting a few that truly spoke to her and tweeted about them. As she was scrolling through her tagged photos thoroughly perplexed at where some of these pictures had come from as she couldn't recall where the picture was taken or even when it was taken, Melody's voice piped up from beside her forcing her to tear her gaze away from the screen. Smiling softly at her pupil, Maia remarked "Wow, that was fast. It usually takes me hours to write my lyrics." The singer's fair orbs danced across the page as she read Melody's lyrics. Nodding approvingly she responded "Not bad. Not bad at all. It fits in well with the overall theme of the song." Pointing to the first line of the first lyric she continued "A few grammatical errors here, but nothing major. I can still see where you were going with it and that's the most important part. You used the masculine pronoun a couple of times here when you should have used the feminine one but that's a relatively common mistake. " Grabbing the pen, Maia crossed through a few words replacing them with the correct pronoun and reworked the sentence structure before turning the page back to where Melody could see it. "It's the same thing that you wrote, just rewritten in the proper context. You really have something here. Keep going."

Inhaling deeply, Maia held her breath counting to ten in her mind before slowly exhaling. A technique recommended by her life coach during times of extreme stress or anxiety. Pull it together girl, the singer chastised herself. There is no one in here with you because there's no way that anyone would be able to get in here without being noticed, You're probably just tired and hungry, she reasoned. At the mention of food, the nineteen year old's stomach rumbled reminding her of just how light her breakfast of oatmeal, fruit, and yogurt had truly been. Either her breathing technique was working or her brain had decided that it couldn't be bothered to juggle both fear and anger at the same time. Whatever the cause might have been, the teenager could feel her heart rate gradually stabilizing as her hunger pangs simultaneously increased.
Just as she had turned to make her way to the refrigerator in the far left hand corner of the room, the irritating sensation at the base of her skull returned causing the teen to stop mid step. Fear... overwhelming... gut wrenching... fear. Alarmingly, the fear was not her own. She'd been freaked out by the notion of someone else managing to sneak into her dressing room and still being in there with her, but this was...intense. Suddenly, the fear had a voice and a feminine one at that. Whirling around, Maia turned just in time to see someone slip out from behind the clothing rack towards the back of the room. The girl's appearance was haggard to say the least with soiled and torn clothing. Her cheeks were tinged pink whether from embarrassment or exertion, the singer couldn't quite be sure as the younger girl's fear was masking any underlying emotions. Well, actually...she was picking up a smidge of guilt. What on earth could that be about? This girl was definitely not a fan so what the heck was she doing in here?
However, more concerning than any of that was the intruder's explanation as to how she'd managed to get inside. Shifting her gaze back to the clothing rack that the girl had emerged from, the pop star noted that there was in fact a partially concealed back door that was slightly ajar. "Oh my God, I didn't even know this room had a back door. Mike is absolutely going to lose it when he finds out that someone left that open," the starlet muttered as she moved past the stranger. Kicking away the water bottle that had been used to prop the door open, Maia pulled the door shut. Even without the utilization of her ability, Maia could tell that the other girl wasn't being completely honest with her. Frowning she said softly "Ok, I won't scream but... who are you? I mean I know that the door was open by why did you come in here? I mean it seems pretty clear that you didn't even know what kind of room you were running into. So, that seems to rule out the theory of you being a fan of mine."
The teen idol's gaze drifted from the face of the invader to the main entrance of the room as she added "Passing through to where? My guards are either posted next to the door if not super close by. Within earshot for sure. If you want out of here then you're going to have to go back the way you come because if you step out that door, they'll be on you in a second. They aren't going to let you wander around the area of the building unencumbered. They are a little paranoid like that."

As she drew closer to the end of the winding hallway, the brunette could make out the silhouette of a burly man leaning casually against an archway. The brawny gentleman lounged with his muscular arms folded across his chest as she approached only budging from his post as the pop star attempted to move past him through the opening. Shifting his position to block her entrance, he held his hands out towards her saying "Just a moment Ms. Morales. They are still setting up. It will just be another minute or two." Nodding, the young woman took a step back and closed her eyes inhaling deeply as she did so. Regardless of how many of these events that she attended, the singer still felt anxious. Even now the nineteen year old's heart was hammering so loudly in her chest that she feared it would explode. Her delicate hands were dampened with perspiration as she slowly exhaled attempting to calm her frayed nerves.
Even with all the cinderblock between herself and the crowd, Maia could still feel the waves of excitement emanating from the masses and it was already beginning to make the starlet's head throb. Suddenly, the throng erupted in thunderous applause as the strapping young man in front of her moved aside and gestured for her to enter. Tentatively, the teenager stepped into the open space lifting a hand to her face to shield her eyes as a flood of bright light shone on her. To the right of her was a long black barricade of which a horde of people stood behind chanting her name. Beaming at the crowd, the teen waved enthusiastically calling out to them "Hey guys! How's everybody doing? Thanks for coming out today." Out of the corner of her eye, Maia could see a tall, pale man with shaggy brown hair and a face full of freckles waving at her. As she met his gaze, the man gestured for her to follow him to a corner of the room where a colorful backdrop and camera had been set up. The brunette had been just as to follow along behind him when a nagging feeling begin nattering away at the base of her skull.
"Hold on for a second Josh," Maia stated as she turned back to the crowd, her gaze flitting over the faces of the fans gathered there seeking the source of the extreme sadness that had just washed over her with such potency that it threatened to take her breath away. Eventually, the young woman's gaze settled on a mother with her long blond hair drawn atop her head in a messy bun and dark circles under her piercing cobalt orbs. Clinging to her hand was a girl who couldn't be more than ten or eleven years old, however the girl's blanched complexion and frail frame gave her the appearance of being significantly younger. A bandana was wrapped about the girl's head and Maia couldn't help but to notice how smooth the skin of the child's scalp was. Making a beeline for the pair, Maia reached out for the little girl's hand. Clasping the child's hand in her own, the teen idol said with a smile "Hello beautiful. How would you like to hang out with me while I sign a few autographs today?" The teenager's light orbs drifted over to the blonde as she inquired "Is that alright mom?" The young girl looked up to her mother with hope shimmering in her azure orbs. With tears brimming in her own eyes, the older woman merely nodded.
Taking a few steps back from the barricade, Maia said softly "Let her through Mike." The bulky young man whom had been guarding the door that she'd entered through quirked a brow at her skeptically. Fixing the large man with a steely glare, Maia gestured towards the barricade with a delicate nod of her head. Sighing, Mike shuffled over to the barrier. Reaching over it his fingers nimbly undid the lock allowing the door to swing open and the child to step through. No sooner did she slide past the barrier did the girl run towards Maia and wrap her arms around the superstar. Maia embraced her warmly for several minutes before pulling away. Lifting her hand to her neck, the singer removed a her long conch shell necklace and slipped it around the little girl's neck before motioning for her to follow.
~An hour later~
Spent after dedicating the past hour to hugging, shaking hands, taking pictures, and signing autographs a weary Maia bid farewell to her fans as she promised to see them all at the impending concert. Flanked by Mike and her other bodyguard Joe whom had arrived shortly into the festivities, Maia strolled back down the hall towards her dressing room. The meet and greet and concert had been spaced out far enough apart that she should be able to catch a quick nap before she had to get ready to go onstage. Turning the doorknob, Maia slipped inside the room. Once inside, the singer's slender fingers slid alongside the wall seeking the light switch panel. Flicking the light switch upwards, Maia winced a little as the room was instantly bathed in light. Stepping further in the room, the singer had been about to plop down on the chaise in the corner when she could have sworn that she saw movement in the back of the room. A hard lump formed in the pop singer's throat as she moved towards her vanity. With her heart racing she called out shakily "Um.... hello? Is anyone here?"

[googlefont="Comfortaa"] ♡ TAGS WORD COUNT NOTES Nearly everyone that Maia knew had a favorite color. As such owning several things in that color was a relatively normal occurrence. However, with Sunny it was somehow more of an obsession than a preference. Her clothing was pink. her costume was pink. her accessories were pink. Even her car was pink. There was only so much pink that a person could take and one would think that Sunny had definitely exceeded that limit. It was a wonder that she hadn't grown weary of the color by now. While the reasoning behind her temporary departure from the shade was quite sad indeed, Maia couldn't say that she wasn't glad to see Gravity Girl mix it up a little. However, the brunette had to quirk a brow at the blonde when she indicated that purple was her second favorite color as she couldn't recall having ever seen her wear any purple. Nevertheless, Maia returned Sunny's bright smile saying "As well it should be. It is the color most associated with royalty after all." To be honest, the pop star had never really understood the purpose of an entourage. It was just a group of people that followed you around everywhere and did everything that you told them to do. Sounded more like groupies that the celebrity in question simply tolerated than actual friends. After all, who would treat their real friends in such a disrespectful manner? An entourage member's livelihood seemed to be completely reliant upon the favor of the celebrity in whom they idolized which didn't seem like much of a lifestyle at all really. Maia wasn't sure that she wanted that kind of responsibility when it really came down to it. Besides it opened up way too much of the possibility of having people around you whom were merely interested in what you could provide for them. It wasn't so much that the teen struggled to make friends or didn't have any but rather none that could be bothered with following her here and there. They either had too much respect for themselves or their own lives to lead. The revelation that Sunny's mother arranged her entourage strangely didn't come as much of a surprise to Maia. Much like her own mother, Sunny's mom seemed to be almost eerily obsessed with maintaining a certain image. Offering a casual shrug in response to Sunny, Maia replied " No, I don't really have an entourage per se. I have close friends that I hang out with as much as time will allow, but they don't like follow me around everywhere I go or anything like that. My mom did mention to me something about arranging an entourage, but I really didn't want to be surrounded by a bunch of strangers all the time. I rather only deal with people that I know and trust." With this having been the first time that Maia had spent any time with Sunny, the teenager wasn't quite sure whether or not the blond would pick up on her joke despite her best efforts to incorporate a teasing note in her tone. Much to her relief, the superhero giggled a little seemingly suggesting that not only was she agreeing that she wasn't really practical but didn't mind it being pointed out in a teasing manner. However, their joyous moment faded a little too quickly for Maia's liking as Sunny's smile vanished completely upon being asked about how her attacker had managed to bypass her gravity field. Damn her curiosity, Maia scolded herself as Sunny's gaze dropped from her face and she stammered through her explanation of what had taken place that day. "So, you underestimated her then? Sounds like she was really just a horrible person. That was intent on harming someone. Like truly evil. It's hard to fight someone like that." The blond was radiating pain and sadness that hit Maia like a freight train causing her temples to begin throbbing. Thankfully, the conversation shifted in a lighter direction lifting Sunny's mood and granting the nineteen year old a reprieve from the searing pain in her head. Sunny's compliment about her sexiness bought a warm smile to the young woman's face for more than one reason. If only Sunny knew the accuracy of the statement that she'd just made. Giggling a little, Maia responded "Yeah, I do get a little nervous about being sexy. It can be a really fine line between sexy and slutty and I'm always worried about crossing it. Some of the outfits that I've worn in concert and on tour have gotten pretty racy, but it makes me feel much better that you said that. It means that I've managed to keep it classy enough to be proper sexy and not trashy." While she wasn't likely to admit it aloud, Sunny's exuberance about Disneyworld was starting to make her feel a little excited as well. Perhaps, her discontentment had been based entirely on the lack of a proper guide. It was pretty clear that Sunny had visited enough to really know her way around the theme park instead of wandering around aimlessly with a map as she and she supposed many others had done. Holding her hands up in a position of mock surrender, Maia laughed softly saying "Alright, Alright, you've convinced me. I am completely sold on the idea of going to Disneyworld during Halloween. I don't recall seeing half of the stuff that you just described when I went and now I want to see it all. Maybe I just needed someone in the know to show me around."

- RISE - "Together, we’re gonna rise with the morning light." As many times as the thought had crossed her mind interestingly enough, Maia had never actually voiced her concerns aloud. Now that she had, the brunette felt pained by the words. For as long as she could remember, all she ever wanted to do was to be a singer and to be perfectly honest from the teenager's perspective singing was all that she really knew how to do. The teen was of average intelligence with no other real talents to speak of. As such it was really difficult if not completely impossible for the nineteen year old to even imagine what else she could possibly do if she no longer had a music career. She was a decent enough dancer, she supposed so perhaps she could be a backup dancer for some other artist. Maia had tried her hand at acting before and her performance was mediocre at best.
As Melody explained the distance from the school to the nearest town. the pop star's eyes widened substantially. Up until this point, Maia's only previous experience had been public school which as she recalled had always been an relatively open campus for the most part. Anyone could walk onto it or off of it as they pleased with special permissions being granted to older students to leave during their lunch hours without repercussion. Were all boarding schools this strict, Maia mused. "Twenty miles? Where the heck in Washington are we anyway? I don't think that I've ever traveled more than like 10 or 15 miles between cities. I suppose that it could have been further and I just drive fast, but still it never seems that far."
Maia had never really sought out or expected special treatment when she went places despite her celebrity status. As much as she even hated to play the 'celebrity' card, the singer realized that such a thing might be unavoidable during her time here. While she wouldn't be performing or recording any music during her time here at EMBA, she was still expected to attend promotional events for her upcoming album. It was the teen idol's desire to be viewed as a peer and not a superstar, but that would be very difficult to manage if it was clear that the administration was treating her differently. It was quite the conundrum.
"Well, I really do hate to ask for special treatment because I'm a pop star, but I do have some obligations that I have to meet that may take me away on occasion so allowances will have to be made somehow. I would like to believe though that it really isn't their intention to keep kids locked up in this building for their whole time here. I'm sure that at the very least they do the occasional field trip or whatnot."
Suddenly, there was a shift in the emotional atmosphere that Maia couldn't help but to find curious. However, the brunette opted not to say anything. Just because she could sense such disturbances didn't necessarily mean that she had to comment on them. Although the young woman had to quirk a brow when Melody inquired as to whether or not they should be getting on with the lesson. Nodding in response, Maia leaned over and unzipped her bag. Digging out her cellphone and a pair of Bluetooth headphones, the starlet handed the headphones to Melody.
"Not sure about you, but listening to the melody helps me to write better so this is the instrumental of the song that you just read. Listen to it for a bit and see if you can get some inspiration from it."

must be a dream i see its like deja vu again
While Maia often feigned ignorance when it came to the affect that her presence had on others, the brunette was in fact well aware of it. Particularly, when it came to members of the opposite sex. It was one of many reasons that the teenager had opted to utilize the tinder app in the first place. The teen still didn't fully understand the logistics of it all, but from what she had gathered with the help of the professors at EMBA it was biological in nature. The nineteen year old had never had much of a problem attracting the attention of men or holding it for that matter. They were drawn to her. The only problem being that their attention was rarely as a result of anything that she personally did.
It wasn't her sparkling wit, dazzling smile, or fantastic sense of humor it was merely something that her body did on its own often without her knowledge that drew men in. While Maia was certain that most would think it silly, a dating app had seemed her only recourse in building a genuine connection with someone else. All the while knowing that eventually they would meet face to face and said connection would be tested by her ability. Speaking of her ability... the pop star shifted her gaze to Isaiah's face as his emotions hit her like a tidal wave. He was nervous....REALLY nervous.... Aw, that was so cute, Maia mused.
Giggling softly the pop star replied "And I'm typically 20 minutes late everywhere I go. So, I guess it really is true what they say. Opposites attract." Feeling as if they were being watched, Maia's gaze flitted over to a pair of girls whom were huddled together in a corner whispering to one another their eyes glued to the couple. Uncertain whether they were staring at her, Isaiah or both of them the pop singer's light orbs gradually made their way back to Isaiah whom was staring at her rather intently. What the heck was going on? Why was everyone staring at her? Was there something on her face? Resisting the urge to pull out her compact, the brunette breathed a sigh of relief as Isaiah gestured towards the stand where the rental skates were stored.
Falling in step with Isaiah as he headed towards the stand, the brunette noted that gradually more skaters had begun to enter the rink. A rosiness crept up into the teenager's cheeks at Isaiah's inquiry as she replied "Um... 19 years. That is to say... as embarrassed as I am to admit it... I've never actually been skating before. So, don't worry. I will be trying way too hard not to make a fool of myself to laugh at you for falling."

- RISE - "Together, we’re gonna rise with the morning light." In response to Melody's assertion that the involuntary nature of her ability 'sucked', Maia could only offer the younger girl a shrug. When her power first manifested and was completely out of control she quite likely would have agreed wholeheartedly with her tutee. However, since then the brunette had learned that her ability while a bit of a pain at times could also be quite useful. Not only to drown out the roar of an over enthusiastic crowd, but to help a close friend through a trying time. Or to give someone a much needed boost of confidence at a time when it would matter the most.
"The power itself isn't so bad. I mean I do wish that I could turn it on and off like some other metas can. It would certainly make things easier, but I don't regret having it. I have been able to use it to help friends through grieving periods and I once was able to help one of my backup singers with her stage fright, so it definitely has its moments. I've even found that sometimes I understand a person's emotions even better then they themselves do. The hardest part really has been learning self control and resisting the urge to just simply alter every negative emotion that I encounter."
While Maia knew that she would never admit it aloud performing live had really become quite draining for the pop star as it seemed nowadays she had to split her energy between singing, dancing, and keeping the crowd's energy levels balanced. It was far more work than it used to be and was becoming a lot less fun. Despite realizing that she was long overdue for a break, the teen simply couldn't bring herself to disappoint her fans like that. Under the worse of conditions, the teenager had never even cancelled a concert so the idea of not putting out music for a undetermined amount of time seemed unfathomable.
"Well, yeah. To be honest, at first it actually felt kind of impossible. For a little while, I was seriously considering walking away from music altogether. Honestly, I think that's why my manager agreed to me coming here. She was afraid that I'd give up on music if I didn't get better control."
Still, the singer had to admit that Melody did make a good point regarding metas whom had even less control than herself. Try as she might, Maia couldn't imagine what it would be like to have even less control than she did now. If she hadn't managed to gain even some degree of control over her power, the brunette would have likely locked herself in her room and never left her house.
"Well, that's fair enough. Can you imagine what it would be like to have never gained any control over your powers? What a nightmare that would be. This is a welcome change though. As you've said there are far less people here so it's not nearly as taxing on me and most of the emotions I've encountered haven't been overly intense. Even still the standalone intense emotional encounter is still better than a whole room of people with strong emotions."
At the mention of not being able to leave, the teen idol quirked a brow at the younger girl. A look of utter perplexity crossed the teenager's face as she inquired "Can't leave? What do you mean? Can't leave here?" Were they not allowed to leave, the pop star mused. No one had ever mentioned to her that once enrolled she wouldn't be able to leave. If this was true, then she'd definitely need to have a chat with the administration.

must be a dream i see its like deja vu again While Maia was more than a little embarrassed to admit it, the brunette really hadn't been on very many dates. It wasn't that she wasn't interested nor was it that she hadn't crossed paths with guys that were interested in dating. Quite the opposite, actually. Her mother had been so focused on promoting her career that she'd insisted that the nineteen year old didn't have time for dating or boyfriends. After she'd signed her record deal, her mother had softened her stance on dating but the teen stayed so busy with recording and touring that time simply didn't permit for anything serious. To add to the pop star's growing anxiety, it had been quite some time since she'd gone out with someone well...normal for lack of a better word.
Because of who she was most men felt the need to impress her and fellow celebrities certainly had the means to do so. The few dates that she'd been on had been rather extravagant in nature. Fancy restaurants, spontaneous trips, lavish gifts seemed to be the norm when celebrities dated each other, but honestly it had all felt so impersonal to the starlet. Perhaps, that was why she had been so excited when Isaiah had finally asked her out. She'd seen the invitation as a chance to make a genuine connection with another person. Besides Isaiah had been far too cute and far too sweet to refuse, Maia thought to herself with a smile.
Now all she had to do was find him. Which shouldn't be all that difficult as much to her relief, the rink wasn't very crowded. That should mean that the pair should have a fair amount of privacy tonight. Of course it could also be one of those scenarios where people did show up until much later. If that did happen and things were going well, maybe she could convince Isaiah to go somewhere else, like a diner or something. Suddenly, a stray movement in her peripheral caught the teen's eye pulling her from her reverie. A guy that had been sitting at a table off to the side of the skating ring had arisen from the table and was now walking towards her.
As he waved at her simultaneously a smile broke out across Maia's face even as her heart skipped a beat. Gosh, he was cute. While she hadn't really thought Isaiah to be the type to catfish anyone, the diva had on some level been concerned that he might not look like his pictures. Such a thing was always a possibility. Surely, he must have had the same reservations about her. After all, she did quite closely resemble a well known pop singer. Truthfully, Isaiah's pictures really didn't do him justice. Maia had been thinking about and looking forward to meeting him all week and now that the moment was upon her, the brunette was at a loss as to how to react.
She had always been an affectionate person but not everyone was wired that way. Should she just assume that because they had spoken so frequently with each other for such a long time that they were on hugging terms or should she just play it safe with a handshake? What would he be expecting? It was hard to know for sure. It was still so odd to hear someone call her by a different name and sometimes the brunette forgot that she had given herself an alias. However, concealing her identity had been of the upmost importance. Eventually, she would have to come clean with him but surely it didn't have to be right away did it?
If he didn't ask then she didn't really have to rush to tell him, did she? Maybe she should see how things went first before springing it on him. Extending a perfectly manicured hand towards Isaiah, Maia said "I'm Isaiah. It's so nice to finally meet you. Sorry that I'm a little late."

[googlefont="Comfortaa"] ♡ TAGS WORD COUNT NOTES Maia studied the blonde's face as she peered at the photo of the sling curious about the other girl's style and fashion sense. The sling was one of many that she'd worn during the time that she'd broken her arm but was easily her favorite of the lot. As Sunny beamed, the brunette could feel the corners of her own lips turning up into a friendly smile. Of course, she would prefer hers in all pink, the nineteen year old thought to herself with amusement. Not that such a thing wasn't possible as the designer that created the sling indicated on the advertisement that they were in fact fully customizable Although, the teen struggled to try to imagine the black and white sling being all one color. "That shouldn't be a problem at all. These are made to order so all you have to do is put in your customized order and the designer will make it to your specifications. I actually ordered one in purple. It was super cute," Maia answered. As much as the teen may have hated to admit it, Sunny might have had a point in stating that pockets were overrated. After all, when was the last time she'd worn anything with pockets in it? Even the pockets in her jeans seemed to be there merely for decoration as they were hardly deep enough to actually carry something in. Although the starlet had to quirk her brow at the notion of having her entourage carry things for her. This was mostly due to the fact that the pop star didn't actually have an entourage. Unless one considered their staff to be their entourage, but she'd never asked them to carry anything for her. Truthfully, while it completely baffled her mother there were still some things that Maia insisted on doing herself. Laughing softly, the starlet replied "Well, I suppose that in order to have my entourage carry my things for me, I would first have to get one. Although it's probably a good call to not have pockets as a part of your costume because even if it didn't ruin the lines of the outfit with all that flying around, you're pretty likely to drop something. It just doesn't seem practical." While Maia would be the first to admit that she didn't keep up with the antics of superheroes nearly as much as other people she knew, the few videos that she'd seen of heroes facing off against criminals seemed pretty intense. How could crime fighting not be considered dangerous? Especially when the one telling her that it wasn't dangerous was currently sitting across from her with her arm in a sling and a wound from having been stabbed. With a bewildered expression, the teenager inquired "So, if you don't mind my asking what happened to your gravity shield at the even that got you hurt?" At Sunny's admission that acting hadn't worked out for her, the artist frowned causing little creases to form in her forehead. She couldn't recall having ever seen Sunny in anything before. Intrigued, Maia added "You used to act? I didn't know that. Anything that I might have seen? I have always wanted to act but never quite sure how to get my foot in the door. My mom said that it should be a little easier now to land a role in something since I've got some name recognition now." With Sunny cleared having decided to view her scar as a constant reminder of how badly she'd failed, Maia sighed inwardly. Offering a casual shrug to the blond, the brunette replied "Ok, then get rid of it. It doesn't matter if people will be expecting to see it. They know that you were stabbed and that's enough. There's no reason that you should have to keep walking around self conscious just because someone wants to snap a picture of it. Your real fans should understand why you did it." As Sunny laughed at Maia's attempt to absolve her of any responsibility in the unfortunate wardrobe selection when she was younger, Maia felt herself chuckling a little as well. Although, she suspected that her laughter was for an entirely different reason. At 9 years old, Maia wouldn't have even known what sequins were better yet when they were in or out of season. This girl was so dramatic that it was actually quite hilarious at times. Waving her hand dismissively, Maia responded "Well, the good thing is that it happened ages ago and most people probably don't even remember it. You have to remember that unless they are serious fashionistas or possibly interested in a career in fashion design most normal people don't really keep up with the rules of fashion the way that we do." Beaming at Sunny as she complimented her legs, Maia replied "Thanks. That is so sweet of you to say. I was honestly a little nervous about wearing it because it is much sexier than anything that I've worn before." Saying that she'd been nervous about wearing the racy dress had been a major understatement as in truth Maia had been mortified. She hadn't been comfortable wearing something so provocative at all but as her mother was quite fond of saying 'sex sells'. It seemed to be her mother's goal to make girls want to be like her and boys want to be with her. The shocked expression that overtook Sunny's face as she indicated that Disney World was overrated was laughable, but somehow Maia was able to keep her composure as she said "I wasn't aware that there was a right or wrong way to do it. I mean my experience wasn't the worse, but I guess it just fell short of that Disney magic that everyone is talking about. I figured maybe I had just outgrown it, but if you think that you could show me how to have a better experience. I'm up for it."

- RISE - "Together, we’re gonna rise with the morning light." While most emotions were but a mere whisper to Maia, there were others that practically screamed at the brunette. Embarrassment, being one of them. The emotions that the other girl was feeling were as clear as the rosiness that had begun to creep into Melody's cheeks. Almost as if the girl had simply spoken her feelings aloud. It was fairly obvious to Maia that her tutee had very much been trying to conceal her emotions only to find that it had all been for naught. How mortifying that must be for her. If she had for any reason doubted the fact that Melody was horrified, the fact that the younger girl couldn't seem to bring herself to meet her gaze confirmed it.
The fact that Melody could still form coherent sentences was a promising sign, even if there wasn't much substance to them. Nodding the nineteen year old replied "Yeah, they are hard, but it gets easier with practice and it helps a lot when it comes to trying to understand someone and their motives. Especially when you suspect that someone isn't being completely honest with you."
Truthfully, her ability wasn't all sunshine and rainbows but Maia hadn't wanted to shed a negative light on her power. Still, she couldn't deny that when someone found out what she could do that they treated her differently. This seemed to be the case even among members of her own kind which was as perplexing as it was disheartening. Most attempted to shield their emotions from her even though it was an exercise in futility. Much as she imagined that Melody was attempting to do so now. Not that she could blame them of course as it was a natural response to such an invasion of privacy.
Finally, Melody lifted her gaze back to Maia's face, her brows quirking as curiosity washed over her youthful visage. The younger girl's inquiry prompted a soft sigh to escape the pop singer's throat as she shook her head sadly "It's challenging that's for sure. I often know more about people on an emotional level than I care to know. Even strangers and unfortunately, I have yet to find a way to turn it off." Surprisingly, no one had ever really had inquired as to why she'd come here or what she'd hoped to gain by being here before. Not even the professors whom had been trying to gain more intel on the inner workings of her ability.
The starlet grew silent for a moment before finally replying "It was really overwhelming at first and I used to get so distracted when on stage because it was just this huge rush of emotions, but I have learned for the most part how to stay grounded during concerts. I have found that I can affect the emotional undertones of an area even though I can't affect a group of people of people on an individual basis. I did it once at a concert on accident when all of intense excitement was starting to give me a headache. I managed to reduce the excitement level. Only slightly, but enough to give me a bit of a break. I guess I am here because I want to learn how to manage the intensity of the emotions that I create within people. Right now it's kind of a like a speaker that is stuck on the highest volume setting and I want to be able to scale it back a bit. If that makes sense."
