"I'm so sorry for your loss"
The phrase had been repeated nearly a dozen times and yet the words still held no meaning for Taliah. Her teachers were sorry, her classmates were sorry, even family members that they hadn't heard from in several years were sorry, Liah was virtually drowning in apologies and yet she still felt unbearably hollow as she cradled Tanya's head in the crook of her arm. It was then that the young girl realized that the well wishers weren't sorry for what happened, they were sorry that there was nothing they could do to make it better. The apology did far more for them then it would ever do for her. As the young girl reflected on the uselessness of the sentiment, a prickly 'pins and needles sensation had begun in her fingertips and was rapidly sweeping up the length of Taliah's arm indicating that the appendage was 'falling asleep but she dare not move out of fear of disturbing the slumbering child. In a way it was somewhat reflective of her current state of mind. A fascinating, yet perplexing blend of numbness and pain. With Tanya resting comfortably in her arms, Taliah then shifted her gaze to Tanice whom instinctively turned to face her at precisely the exact same moment. As twins, the pair had always shared a deep bond that often allowed them to communicate with one another with a simple glance or unassuming gesture.
Which proved invaluable these days as her sister had all but ceased speaking since being informed that their father had gone to heaven. Their mother had grown frustrated on several occasions with Tanice's vow of silence, but Taliah knew that her sister would speak again when she was ready and that her healing couldn't be rushed. Taliah gestured towards Tanya with her head then returned her gaze to Tanice who nodded in understanding and opened her arms allowing Liah to deposit their sister into them. Liah slid off the loveseat that the three of them had been huddled together on and timidly shuffled into the living room where their guests for lack of a better word had been gathered. Having run out of cliche and wholly meaningless expressions of encouragement, comfort, and support, the mourners had moved on to leave the family of four to stew in their grief. As much as the incessant chatter had annoyed Taliah, as she scurried from room to room seeking out her mother, the young girl decided that the awkward silence that had settled upon the home was infinitely worse.
Having scoured the entire lower level of the home, Taliah ascended the staircase tentatively calling out "Mama?" Receiving no response, Liah made her way towards her parents' bedroom. Finding the door partially ajar, Liah pushed it the rest of the way open and slipped inside the room. A soft gasp escaped the young girl's throat as she took in the appearance of what she'd always known to be an immaculate living space. Large piles of clothing littered the carpet leaving only slivers of the flooring visible. Empty bottles of various sizes of alcohol cluttered the nightstand and dressers. Discarded pizza boxes that were likely several days old had been tossed in a corner of the room and laying atop of an unmade bed surrounded by soiled laundry was her sleeping mother. With her stomach audibly voicing its need for nutrition, Taliah started across the room, side stepping a few piles of clothes. Upon reaching the four poster bed, Liah gently shook her mother's arm saying "Mama, are you going to make dinner?"
An incoherent grumble sounded from the woman's slumbering form as her mother rolled over onto her side. After noting no further movement on her mother's part, Taliah sighed and trudged out of the room. Descending the staircase, Liah returned to the den to find her sisters still curled up in the chair. Gesturing for them to follow her, Taliah ambled into the kitchen. Pushing a foot stool in front of the fridge, Taliah climbed atop it and pulled down a box of cereal. Placing it on the counter, Liah grabbed three bowls from the cabinet before stepping off the foot stool and returning it to the corner where it belonged. Taliah turned just as Tanice pulled a jug of milk from the fridge and as she poured cereal into each bowl, Tanice filled each with milk. Grabbing a bowl for herself and Tanya whom had awakened just in time for dinner, Taliah presented it to her baby sister and the three ate in silence.
Dropping the empty bowls in the sink, the trio ascended the staircase and headed for Tanya's room. While Tanice carried Tanya into the bathroom to wash up, Taliah pulled a pair of pajamas from the drawer and lay them across the small twin bed. Assured that Tanice would see to it that Tanya was tucked in properly and likely stay with her until she drifted back off to sleep, Taliah withdrew from the room and meandered down the hallway to the bedroom that she shared with Tanice. Alone for the first time that night, Liah plucked a small picture frame from the nightstand. The young girl stared at the smiling faces in the photo for several minutes before summoning up the strength to put it back down. Flopping down on the bed, Liah wrapped her arms about herself and let the tears flow until finally drifting off into a restless sleep.

Don't mistake my silence for ignorance, my calmness for acceptance or my kindness for weakness
Sedaiyus didn't bother to conceal his delight as Taliah approached which the brunette honestly found to be quite refreshing. Such openness in displaying his emotions would seem to suggest that the handsome stranger didn't engage in the mind games that had become so commonplace in interactions among members of the opposite sex these days. Liah's theory was soon proven to be accurate as the dark haired casanova voiced his pleasure with her decision to join him. A hint of a smile flickered across the twenty three year old's face as she slid into the booth. "Well, not to stroke your ego too much, but to be honest there really isn't anyone else in here that's actually worthy of my company at the moment." As Sedaiyus confessed to being something of a spoiled brat, Taliah tried rather unsuccessfully to conceal her amusement. Everything about the way that the man carried himself indicated to Liah that he came from money. Truthfully, on the surface, Sedaiyus was precisely the sort of guy that turned Taliah off and yet, she was strangely intrigued by him. The narrative of well to do parents spoiling their kid rotten as compensation for a severe lack of quality time was one that she'd heard often. In most scenarios the child in question often turned out to be an entitled asshole. A fate, it seemed that Sedaiyus had managed to escape. With a casual shrug of her shoulders, Taliah replied "Call me an optimist, but I'm not sure not having alot of your parents' time and attention is such a bad thing. It teaches you to be independent and builds character." Despite herself a soft giggle erupted from the brunette's throat as Sedaiyus went on to explain that the lack of attention from his parents had taught him to learn to appreciate non material things more so. " To be honest, I think it's much easier to appreciate non material things when you have a plethora of material things," Taliah responded.
Liah had learned some time ago that there were two kind of men that were almost always guaranteed to 'get the girl'. A handsome man or a wealthy man and as Sedaiyus had both fronts covered, the brunette was fairly certain that there was no shortage of enchanting women willing to sit alongside him. Nevetheless, the waitress did appreciate the sentiment. A playful smirk tugged at the corners of Taliah's lips as she answered "Well, let's hope that I'm right in believing that you are indeed deserving of my time."Lifting her glass in response to Sedaiyus's own gesture, Taliah responded with a curt nod and a simple "Indeed", to Sedaiyus's toast. The brunette's face then adopted a mock look of abject horror as she added "Tsk, Tsk, Tsk. Whatever would your parents say about your hosting? Dare I say that they would be rather disappointed with you." Out of her peripheral, Liah caught sight of a familiar tuft of auburn hair. Lifting her hand to catch the waitress's attention, the twenty three year old flashed a friendly smile at the redhead as she approached the booth saying " Hey Sara. It's been a while. How's your kid?" The waitress gushed for several minutes about how fast he was growing and how worried she'd been when he'd been ill recently before finally taking confirming Taliah's regular order of a pomegranate kamikazi. As Sara moved away to place her order with the bartender, Sedaiyus spoke again prompting, Taliah to shift her gaze back to that chiseled face and those gorgeous eyes of his. However, moreso that his smouldering gaze, it was the nature of the question that he asked that had most caught the young woman offguard. While she was privy to many a person's innermost thoughts, few people ever concerned themselves with hers. In fact, come to think of it, Liah couldn't ever recall it having happened before. With an uncharacteristically bashful smile, Taliah replied " Well, it may sound a bit silly, but honestly I desire most is my own space. All of my life, I've shared everything with my sisters and most of the time I don't really mind it, but sometimes it feels like I give so much of myself to them that there really isn't much left for me."

Taliah Dawson
These shades are gucci Feeling like a ten, the best I've ever been Taliah had devoted countless hours of thought to escaping the service industry. However, admittedly the brunette had been struggling with just how to go about it. Out of all the business ventures that she'd attempted thus far the only one that had been successful had been pushing weed. Liah realized some time ago that unlike Tanice, she simply didn't have it in her to go legit. A smile that was almost friendly in nature lit the twenty three year old's face then as she "Well, that's the plan anyway and if there is anything that can get me out of waitressing I suspect that this is it."
Of the Dawson siblings, Taliah was quite possibly the least creative as evidenced by her struggle to find a catchy name for the supplier's product. Perhaps, it would come to her later, Liah concluded as the duchess agreed that keeping the name short and sweet was best.Nodding, she responded "It's still a work and progress. It's coming along though. I should have it figured out by the time I am ready to distribute."
Truthfully, Taliah had never much understood the appeal of small town living. Seeing the same faces over and over again, everyone knowing personal details about your life, having to travel a considerable distance to a larger city for more variety in shopping and extracurricular activities. This of course was to say nothing of the backwards thinking that alot of small town residents possessed as a result of having limited experiences. Some would never get the opportunity to leave their city and others still would be far too afraid to accept any opportunity that they were given to leave. It was tragic really.
Taliah hadn't given much thought to taking up a hobby. She never seemed to have enough free time on her hands. Nodding, she responded "Yeah, I hear that it is a mind strengthener in particular for those with a strategic mind. I might look into it." As the annoying couple left the line, Liah could had sworn that she'd heard a collective sigh from the other passengers in line. With a giggle, she stepped forward and waited patiently while the duchess placed her order. As the supplier stepped to the side, Taliah flashed a sweet smile at the clerk as she said confidently "Hi, I would like two cheese pretzels and a small diet coke. Oh, and I want you to give me those for free."
Those within earshot laughed softly at the request, however the brunette hadn't been making a joke. Politely, Taliah stepped aside to await the completion of her order. At the younger girl's declaration that the trains were up and running again, Liah beamed "Finally! For a while there I was starting to think we would be stuck overnight." The brunette was watching a few relieved filing back into the station when the clerk returned with her order. Uncertain if her 'jedi mind trick' had worked, Liah dug into her pocket to withdraw a fistful of bills when the clerk glanced over his shoulder and then shifted his gaze back to her. Shaking his head to indicate that there was no charge. Taliah grinned and retrieved the bag and cup from him.
Shifting her gaze to her companion Taliah added "Glad that worked because I was really short on that total."

These shades are gucci Feeling like a ten, the best I've ever been Her prediction that the drug would sell well and in turn earn her a tidy profit was met with satisfaction from the supplier. As was expected. After all, what supplier didn't want their product to perform well? An amused grin spilled across Taliah's face as she replied "If it does half as well as we expect not only will there be a healthy demand for it on my followup order but you'll get your cut of the sales." While to most it didn't really appear to be much of a big deal, truthfully proper product naming was a major part of distribution. The name had to be alluring and appealing. It had to generate interest, be easy to spell and pronounce while at the same time being inconspicuous even to avoid drawing unnecessary attention.
Nodding, Liah added "I've actually been giving that quite a bit of thought. For my particular brand of customer it's best to keep it short and sweet otherwise they will never remember it. I am toying with the name of Keta because it reminds me of a drug called Ketamine that was really big a while back. Stronger than both Molly and LCD, however I knew a few truly masochistic people that actually liked to combine them. Can't imagined what kind of effed up childhood a person would have to have to make them want to do some crazy sh*t like that."
A rather dry laugh escaped the brunette's throat at the younger girl's incredulity that in some company this particular train station was considered to be fancy or swanky. With a casual shrug of her shoulders Taliah continued "It's a small town. They really don't have a proper form of reference. Most of the residents here have never gone farther than the next town over and never will. This is what passes for luxury around these parts. I'm not as creeped out as I was the first time I came, but I really may lose it if those trains don't get moving again soon."
Casting a glance in the direction of the salad based eatery, Taliah frowned as she answered "You're probably right. I can't imagine how they could keep their ingredients fresh in a place like this. Pretzels do seem like the safest bet as I can't readily think of a way that a vendor can ruin those other than to overcook them. Chess? huh? Never played before. Sounds intriguing though." Taliah gave an exasperated sigh as her tummy began to rumble. The amorous couple in front of them seemed either completely oblivious to the disapproving glances being thrown their way or were blatantly disregarding the discomfort of the other diners.
Whatever the case, the twenty three year old was growing annoyed. Fixing the female of the pair with a steely gaze, Taliah directed a thought towards her. After a minute the perky red head looked to her paramour and declared "You know, I probably don't need anymore carbs today. Not if I want to fit in that dress this weekend. Would you mind if we went to get a salad?" A bit perplexed, it would seem her beloved had parted his lips to refuse her request but seemingly thought better of it. Communicating his agreement with a curt nod, the couple stepped out of the line allowing Taliah and the duchess to move forward so that they could place their order.
"Thank goodness," Taliah whispered under her breath as she lifted her gaze to the vendor's menu list.

Taliah Dawson
These shades are gucci Feeling like a ten, the best I've ever been Well, that was money well spent, Taliah thought to herself with a satisfied smile as the supplier passed her the sample batch. Briefly, the brunette considered rolling another joint but immediately decided against it when she considered her schedule for the duration of the day. As she stuffed the baggie into the pocket of her bubble jacket, Taliah began to mentally comprise a list of the customers of hers most likely to be willing to experiment with a new strain of weed. It was surprisingly longer than she imagined, the dealer noted as the duchess clarified that she had never suspected it was Taliah's intent to be deceitful.
Nodding her agreement, the twenty three year old replied "Fair enough. Just wanted to be clear on that. You gave me a fair price on a product that I expect to generate a pretty sweet profit. The least I can do is pay you promptly." Despite the fact that her signal appeared to be holding steadily enough, as of yet no announcement had been made as to whether the trains were back up and running or expected to be. Pity she didn't have to ability to wish things into existence that kind of power would be extraordinarily useful at the moment.
It seemed that her desire to be done with this place was a shared one as the duchess confirmed that she as well was ready to be back on her way. "Believe it or not as far as train stations go this one actually is top ten for this area. At least it has food. Last station I went to I was almost afraid to walk the platform because it looked like the floor would give way underneath me. Man, that place was like ancient. Should have been condemned years ago. Small towns don't usually bother me too much, but this was is kind of creepy. Reminds me of those old deserted ghost towns that you see on TV where you just get that eery feeling that something god awful happened here," Taliah responded.
Much to Taliah's chagrin, the area of the station where food vendors had set up shop in hopes of peddling their wares to weary and presumptuously famished passengers was considerably more densely populated than the platform that they'd left. As they wormed their way through the throng, the thoughts of the passerbys whirred through her mind feverishly prompting Taliah to briefly cease movement as she took a moment to collect herself. After a minute or two Taliah pressed onward towards the vendor selling pretzels a single, but potent thought lingering in her mind.
A spade....what was that about? Tracing the thought back to its owner, Taliah was surprised to discover that she'd inadvertently connected to the duchess's mind. Was she some kind of a card shark? Then again it wasn't actually a card it was more like a symbol or icon. What a bizarre thing to be thinking about. A bit flustered, Taliah stammered "Uh...no pretzels sound fine. I don't do much rabbit food in general. Suppose I should try to eat healthy but I find most so called healthy food to be utterly disgusting. The pretzel place is just off to the right here."
Taliah veered off to the right taking a deep whiff as the tantalizing aroma of freshly baked bread tickled her nostrils. Stepping behind an amorous couple whom was in front of them in line, Liah added "Hey, this will probably come out of left field but uh... do you play many card games? Poker... or black jack maybe?"

These shades are gucci Feeling like a ten, the best I've ever been From a business perspective, Taliah suspected that she likely should have given more consideration to her future business partners discontent, but frankly there didn't seem to be any correlation between the brief mention of lucrative non conventional work and the transaction that they'd actually come to make in the first place and therefore one had no real baring on the other. Truthfully, when hunger struck, the brunette became quite singularly minded and failed to consider anything more than what she would eat and how soon she'd be able to eat it. She supposed that a childhood of barely having enough to eat could do that to a person. Taliah had been considering whether she wanted an original pretzel or a cheesy one when her reverie was disturbed by a pesky reminder from the supplier.
Right. There was the matter of her payment to attend to. The price that they'd agreed upon had been deemed fair by them both. In fact, it was actually much more reasonable than anyone that she'd dealt with in the past. Something that she'd attributed to the fact that the duchess was still new to the game. A bashful smile donned Taliah's face as she reached into her back pocket and dug out a tightly bound wad of cash. Peeling off a few hundred dollar bills, Liah handed the cash over to the younger woman as she said "My bad. Wasn't trying to stiff ya. Just ready to get out of this wind for a while. Though I will take the fact that I actually have a signal now to mean that the trains might be able to start up again soon."
Sliding off the bench, Taliah grinned as the duchess commented on the benefits of being able to anticipate other's actions adding "Well, I like to think so. However, the few people that have ever tried to surprise me tend to end up frustrated as a result. My sister, in particular, tends to refer to me as the lie detector. It's also why she is always reluctant to bring any of her boyfriends around me." Shoving the wad of cash back into her pocket, Taliah studied the screen of her phone for a minute before starting off to the right. After taking a couple of steps forward , Taliah swiped her finger across the phone screen. Beaming triumphantly when a series of beeps erupted from the device Liah continued " Ok, so now that it's calibrated, I also found a deli and a place that does salads. Let me know when something catches your eye."

These shades are gucci Feeling like a ten, the best I've ever been Much like herself, the younger girl next to her had a tendency to wear her emotions on her face and at the moment everything about the supplier's facial expression indicated displeasure. As Taliah mentally recapped their most recent conversation, the only thing that the brunette could pinpoint as a potential source of the younger woman's disapproval was her apathy towards obtaining additional information about unconventional work. Most presumably, the lucrative work that the duchess herself was engaged in. Had she been expected to plead with her for more info? Probe a little deeper, maybe? Even when it was clear to the dealer that the supplier had no intention of divulging the information that she sought? Truthfully, Liah supposed that she could have scanned the duchess's mind to learn more but honestly the young woman hadn't given her nearly enough to go on for her to go through such lengths. As the wind began to pick back up, Taliah released an exasperated sigh. At this rate, she might as well start to consider someplace to crash for the night, Taliah mused. Thankfully, the topic switched to something far more palatable to the brunette. Nodding, Taliah began "I think so...." Holding a finger up to the supplier, Taliah dug into her coat pocket and withdrew her phone.
Sliding her finger across the screen to access the keypad in order to input her pin , Liah quickly accessed her GPS and keyed in the name of the train station. Restlessly, the dealer drummed her nails along the bench as she waited for her search to yield results. As they waited, the duchess offered a bit of encouragement in regards to utilizing her powers without restraint or guilt.
"I'm actually much less squeamish that I used to be, Although, I think that the only reason that I practiced restraint before was because I couldn't really control it which meant that I was hearing everyone's thoughts all the time I couldn't filter anything out or isolate it to one person. I wasn't quite sure what would happen if I tried to do it on purpose. I don't make a habit of caring what the average person thinks but there are sometimes when it benefits me to have someone like me. Not to brag, but I can say with confidence that I am rarely surprised by what most people say or do."
As her phone chimed, the twenty three year old shifted her gaze back down to the screen before adding "Ok, so there's actually a coffee shop and a pretzel place... thatta way. Might be some more stuff but that's all that can up on my GPS. Might need to be re calibrated."

Don't mistake my silence for ignorance, my calmness for acceptance or my kindness for weakness
As their gazes met, Taliah took note of the twinkle in the man's eye as he regaled her with his interpretation of her observations. It was true that on more than one occasion she'd been referred to as pessimistic and while Liah didn't necessarily agree with the label, the brunette had to admit that there was an iota of truth to it. The harshness of her upbringing had effectively stamped out the young woman's ability to be optimistic. Taliah mush more preferred realism than idealism and if she came off as negative as a result then so be it. With an amiable smile, Liah replied "Well, for the purposes of selling a book or even a movie, I would have to agree that your version is likely far more palatable than mine. When it comes to entertainment, the guy always has to get the grl, the good guy always wins, and everything is wrapped up in a tidy bow in order to proclaim that they all lived happily ver after. Those seem to be the rules, but I've never much been one for rules to be honest. I firmly believe that variety is the spice of life and I enjoy switching things up a bit just to throw off the norm." Something about Sedaiyus's chuckle was infectious causing Taliah to chuckle a little herself as she added "A hopeless romantic, huh? Not exactly my scene, but to each his own. That's a rare find in a guy though, so I imagine that most women must eat that kind of thing up." Having extended her hand for a handshake, the twenty-three year old was a bit taken back when he bought her hand to his lips and brushed them tenderly against it. Liah's lips curled upwards into an amused smirk as she continued "Well, aren't you the charmer? And they say that chivalry is dead." A ghost of a smile flickered across Taliah's face followed by an uncharacteristic giggle when Sedaiyus complimented her name as she responded "Well, my mother certainly seemed to think so and I am sure that she would be delighted to know that you agree. The brunette followed Sedayius's gaze to a table that a server that she was quite familiar with was busily clearing off before shifting her gaze back to his face as he spoke once more. Truthfully, the waitresses here rarely anticipated tips as most patrons rarely took advantage of the establishment's cuisine opting to merely get a mixed drink from the bar, dance a little and resolve to grab a proper meal afterward. However, on the other hand being a waitress, Taliah was well aware of how dependent the waitstaff was on tips as their salary was often much lower than any other job. Nodding her understanding, the brunette said "Oh, of course. By all means. Sara has been out for a while and I am sure that she would appreciate the tips." Taliah hadn't missed the fact that Sedaiyushad started a tab with the anticipation of having guests. This told Liah that he was either meeting someone or had anticipated meeting someone and spending the evening with that person. While she suspected that either of those scenarios wold give most women pause strangely enough the brunette was intrigued. She herself was supposed to be meeting a friend whom was as always notoriously late. As she had been invited out tonight, Taliah supposed that the polite thing to do would be wait until her friend showed up, but who knew when that might be. The young woman studied Sedaayius's retreating form for a moment before deciding that her friend would get over it. With her mind made up, Taliah gracefull arose from the bar and made her way towards the U shaped booth.

These shades are gucci Feeling like a ten, the best I've ever been Mirth danced in Taliah's burnt umber orbs as she observed the duchess shifting into a more comfortable position on the bench. If the brunette hadn't missed her guess the active ingredient in the supplier's marijuana was beginning to take effect. Which Liah supposed was a good thing as the worse scenario the young woman could imagine was being stranded at a train station with a frigid person. Particularly, as she herself was becoming more relaxed by the moment. Relaxed and peckish, Taliah realized as her gaze swept the spans of platform. Had she passed by a vending machine on her way back here, Liah wondered.
The manner in which the other woman quirked her brow even as her lips curled into a smile suggested to Taliah that she was quite amused. However, the dealer was a bit perplexed as to what had so amused her cohort. While she was pondering this conundrum, the supplier admitted in a rather indirect way that she had indeed been vague, however offered no apologies for her ambiguity.
The twenty three year old remained silent for a few minutes giving the duchess a moment to expand further should she see fit. When it became clear that the younger woman had no intention of providing additional detail, the brunette simply replied with a shrug of her shoulders "Yeah, it would seem so." With her interest in the topic beginning to rapidly dissipate, Liah then shifted her focus to her stomach. Taliah had just been about to slide off the bench when the duchess commented how strong of a motivator survival could be.
With a low chuckle, the dealer responded "So can hunger. Speaking of which, I'm starving. What about you?"
The young woman's interest in her abilities was apparent. A welcome reaction, if she were being honest as the alternative was far less desirable. Smirking a bite, Taliah answered "It has its moments that's for sure. Although there definitely are some cons. Like you might think you want to know what someone thinks about you, but you really don't. There are times you may find out things that you just can't unknow. I probably should feign modesty and pretend like I'm not a total bitch with it, but to be honest, I use it whenever it will benefit me to do so which is pretty often especially now that I've gotten the hang of the other levels of it." As with most things there were pros and cons with arriving  too early. On one hand she'd arrived prior to eleven and as such was able to take advantage of the "Ladies free before eleven" promotion that the establishment was currently  running. On top of the fact that her entry was free, her punctuality had also enabled her to secure a seat that the bar that was ideal for people watching. Not to mention the scarcity of the nightclub meant that she didn't have to wait very long for the bartender to fulfill her order. On the other hand, the DJ was still setting up which meant that there wasn't any music playing, just sporadic mic and sound checks. It was times like these that the brunette realized one of the many reasons that relationships were so challenging for her to maintain...she simply bored too easily. The brunette was snapped out of her reverie as the mixologist set a glass on the bar in front of her. With a toothy grin the bartender informed her of the total for the two drinks. How cute, he actually thought that I bought money to the club with me, Liah mused.  Where do they do that at? The clutch the young woman had grabbed on her way out had been for aesthetic purposes. Nevertheless, the twenty three year old undid the clasp and pretended to sift through the purse before shifting her gaze back to the mixologist's face with a bashful expression on her lovely visage. "It seems that I left my wallet in my other clutch. OMG, I am so embarassed. I don't suppose that you'd be willing to GIVE me the drinks for free, would you? Just this once?" For most the slight inflection she gave to the word "give" would go completely unnoticed. However, the admittedly handsome bartender returned her bashful grin with a sheepish one of his own as hre replied "Well, it is early and my boss hasn't shown up yet, so I don't suppose there's any harm in giving you this one the house, but just this once, ok? Don't tell anyone." With a giggle that was solely for the purpose of the barkeeper, Taliah made a gesture to indicate to the clean cut barkeep that her lips were "sealed". Having been a little preoccupied with honing her "craft", Taliah had barely noticed the tall, dark, and handsome stranger that had been standing next to her until he spoke, prompting the brunette to shift her gaze in his direction. There was something eerily comforting about the smooth timbre of the man's tone as he addressed which managed to both command her attention and invoke her curiosity at the same time. Taliah appreciative gaze swept the man's visage taking in all the features of his admittedly well chisled face before finally coming to rest on his aquamarine orbs. There was no escaping the fact that the man was quite pleasing to the eye and while there had been no clear indication that he possessed any degree of arrogance, Liah would find it impossible to believe that he was ignorant of the effect that he had on women. Amused at being perceived as either gracious or graceful, an easy smile fell on Taliah's lips as she replied "I'm afraid you would definitely be in the wrong place if you were looking for that kind of woman. Perhaps, you've just caught me on a good night. " Liah's gaze drifted over to the young couple and lingered for a moment as she added "Usually, yes it would be a bit presumptuous, but we'll just say that I'm a bit more perceptive than most. If you look closely at his left hand there are slight indentations around his finger which means that a ring was there and probably should still be. Hasn't been taken off long if you can still see the imprint. There's also a weariness in his eyes that leads me to believe that chances are he's henpecked. There are no ring or ring imprints on her fingers, so it's highly unlikely that she's married and least of all to him. Then there's the way that he's acting towards her. He accepts her touch but with reservation, reciprocates her kiss with scaled back passion. Limits prolonged eye contact. He's got bad news for her before the night is over. She either doesn't know he's married or does but thinks he'll leave his wife. Either way she'll end up sorely disappointed." As he introduced himself, the brunette dragged her gaze back to her unexpected companion for the night. Offering him a perfectly manicured hand, Taliah responded "It's a pleasure to meet you Sedaiyus. My name is Taliah. Let's certainly hope that there aren't too many women out there like me. It's probably a good thing for us both if there isn't."

Words can't hurt me
Taliah Dawson
These shades are gucci Feeling like a ten, the best I've ever been As a result of working numerous late night shifts at the sports bar, Taliah had become acquainted with quite a few exotic days. A few of which had on more than one occasion offered to' put in a good word' for her with their boss. Not that she had ever indicated a desire to work in the industry, but she could appreciate that they clearly saw potential within her and honestly it likely would take much to charm men out of their hard earned money. However, on the other hand, her short fuse was just as likely to deter men from parting with copious amounts of cash. So, it was a bit of a double edged sword to say the least. While she took offense at what she perceived to be chauvinism and objectification, the dancers that she'd spoken with had actually found a sense of empowerment in their work.
As the supplier agreed that exotic dancing was a lucrative field, Taliah couldn't help but to be amused. Although she didn't really know much about the young woman that sat next to her, one thing that she was fairly sure of was that the brunette likely would respond in a similar way to being in that environment as she herself would. Liah could only speculate on whether or not her feigned ignorance had been convincing to the duchess.as there were no visual cues to draw from. While she hadn't been quite as forthcoming as the twenty three year old would have liked, the supplier had at the very lest confirmed that she hadn't been referring to the sex industry and quite likely not even the drug trade. Chances were though that she was still referencing some form of illegal activity.
Quirking a brow, Liah replied "Well, there are so many organizations that it's kind of hard to know which you were referring to. I mean unconventional work is a rather vague. If a make a move at this point it's going to be for the better. There's no way I am moving from a effed up situation to an even more effed up situation."
As the younger woman complimented her perseverance, a smile that was very nearly genuine lit Taliah's face. Shrugging Taliah replied rather simply "Well, a girl's got to eat. bills don't stop and neither does rent for that matter. I really can't afford to bow out. Especially since I've already invested so much time and money into it."
A low chuckle emanated from her throat as the brunette expressed that she had limited experience with drugs outside of weed. Nodding her head in agreement, Taliah continued "Well, after that night so do I. I guess I'm just too damn cynical and way too much of a control freak to let something make me that vulnerable and uninhibited."
With a forced modesty, the young woman added "It has its moments, but not quite appreciated by all. Particularly those that value their privacy. Like for example, I'm pretty such that frazzled mom over there wouldn't like for me to know that her husband has a drinking problem and is currently passed out on the couch for the third day in a row forcing her to take the kids with her to work even though her employer hates when she does it, so now she's scared of losing both her husband and her job. Though the former might not be so bad. He really is a POS."

Tanice Dawson
GAMOPHOBIC |
PRAGMATIC |
PROMISCUOUS |
AMBITIOUS |
The more amiable of the Dawson twins, Tanice serves as her sister's conscience in most regards. Quite a bit more sociable then Taliah, Tanice tends to make friends easily. While her sister has a natural inclination towards acting on impulse, Tanice tends to think things through more thoroughly. Whereas she matches her sister in terms of ambition, Tanice is less likely to engage in underhanded methods of achieving her goals without significant persuasion. As a common trait among the Dawson sisters, Tanice is fiercely protective of her sisters. As a middle child, Tanice often finds herself in the role of arbitrator between her twin and her baby sister. Tanice is more often than not soft spoken and passive aggressive until angered.

Tanya Dawson
CHILDISH |
SPOILED |
FREE SPIRITED/IRRESPONSIBLE |
RECKLESS |
Tanya is the bane of both of her sisters' existences. Despite the fact that she loves them both fiercely, she often feels that they can both be overbearing at times. She particularly finds herself at odds with Taliah the most as her oldest sister isn't always respectful of her privacy. Tanya is frustratingly irresponsible and wholly rebellious. She often acts without thinking and seems to consider herself invincible. Friendly and fun-loving it is difficult to dislike Tanya. Unlike either of her sisters, Tanya is a hopeless romantic that would love nothing more than to meet the love of her life and settle down one day. Perky and upbeat, Tanya does adore her sisters despite their differences and will hunt you to the end of the earth if you harm either of them.

Don't mistake my silence for ignorance, my calmness for acceptance or my kindness for weakness
There were certain occupations that a person could have in which working on the weekend wasn't exactly mandatory but should be expected. Much to her dismay, Taliah was very much employed at such a place. Which was why the revelation that her schedule had afforded her a Saturday off had come as such a surprise to the brunette. In fact, she'd become so accustomed to working Saturdays that she never even bothered to schedule anything else on those days. While there was no shortages of errands to be ran from picking up groceries and paying a few bills to dropping her uniform off for dry cleaning, the brunette was in no way interested in acting responsibly. Particularly, as her conscience, otherwise known as her twin sister Tanice was markedly absent from their apartment when she'd awoken that afternoon. Almost as if on cue, Liah's phone began to vibrate vigorously. Seizing the device from her nightstand, Taliah swiped her finger upward on the home screen to unlock her phone. No sooner had she done this did a text message pop up. Hey sis. Ry picked me up early this morning for breakfast.😍 He's off today so we're spending the whole day together. Probably won't be in till late tonight. Maybe even early tomorrow morning.🍆 Taliah didn't bother to refrain from rolling her eyes at her sister's text. Perhaps the only thing that the siblings had in common aside from their appearance was their healthy sexual appetite and resistance to monogamy. With the only difference being that Liah accepted her commitment phobia while Tanice seemed determined to deny its existence. The twenty three year old's lips curled upwards into an amused smirk as she rolled over on her side and typed out a response. Took him long enough. I was starting to think that you weren't his body type. 🤣 Hopefully, you've cleared out all the cobwebs since it's been a whole week since you got laid.😏
Taliah had barely tossed the covers off her legs and arisen from the bed when her sister's snark reply came through. Bitch
Laughing as her fingers flew over the keys in rapid succession, Taliah responded
Whore
Shuffling into the kitchen, the brunette withdrew a plastic bowl from the cabinet and was reaching to grab a box of cereal when her phone buzzed. Taliah dumped the contents of the box into the bowl and grabbed her phone. Why you gotta slut shame me?
Deciding to leave her sister to her bedroom shenanigans, Liah poured milk into the bowl and carried her cereal into the living room. Depositing the bowl onto an end table, the twenty three year old seized the controller to her PS4 and powered on the gaming console. ~~~ In her mind, the few rounds of Call of Duty and handful of quests in Final Fantasy had only taken place over an hour or two. However, in reality the brunette had spent the better part of the day gaming. Glancing at the clock, Taliah was shocked to see that it was nearly eight oclock. Stretching, Taliah arose from the couch and was halfway to the kitchen when her phone chimed forcing her to scurry back into the living room. Ladies free till 11 tonight. You in?
The text had come from one of the few co workers that the brunette could tolerate outside of work. Why the hell not, she thought to herself as she keyed in rapidly I'll meet you there.
It hadn't been necessary for her colleague to tell her where as those that knew Liah were aware that there was truly only one club that the young woman frequented. Having been known to take a considerable amount of time preparing for a night out on the town, Taliah decided to take her shower now. Twenty minutes later, Liah stepped out of the shower stall and commenced with her skin care regimen prior to stepping into a red wraparound dress with a plunging neckline and asymmetrical hem. Sliding her feet into a pair of corresponding pumps, the brunette busied herself with sliding a pair of diamond studs into her ears as she picked up her phone to call an uber. Heading into the bathroom, Taliah then turned her attention to meticulously running her flatiron through her silky tresses insuring that every strand had been touched prior to applying her makeup for the night which consisted of winged black liner with heavy coats of mascara and a smoky bronze shadow. Liah then applied a bright red lipstick and finished off her look by applying lash extensions. Scrambling out of the bathroom, Taliah grabbed a clutch from the couch and rushed out of the apartment. After taking a moment to lock the door behind her, Liah descended the stairs just in time to meet her Uber. Feeling generous, the brunette resolved to tip her driver later as she strolled up to the front door. Being quite "familiar" with the bouncer, the twenty three year old was easily granted access without having to bother with digging out her identification. With the club still setting up, Taliah made a beeline for the bar. As she slid onto an empty stool, the young woman caught sight of an amorous young couple out of her peripheral. As she waited for her long island ice tea, a rather bored Liah opted to scan the thoughts of the lovely couple. Shaking her head, Taliah lifted her hand to get the bartender's attention. "Better make that two. Give the second one to that blond over there. Something tells me she's about to have a really bad night. And on her birthday too."

Words can't hurt me
Taliah Dawson
These shades are gucci Feeling like a ten, the best I've ever been Just quit. How many times had she herself thought of that oversimplified solution to her rather complex predicament? Perhaps if her egg donor wasn't such a effing train wreck that was constantly smoking, drinking or as of late shooting up her mortgage keeping her baby sister teetering on the brink of homelessness, then she could just quit. Or if her rent wasn't so damn high, she could just quit. Hell, if she had any degree of formal post secondary education she'd be able to just quit. People who just up and quit their sh*t jobs usually did so because they'd received a better offer and as of yet, this hadn't happened to Taliah.
The concept of obtaining non traditional employment wasn't exactly a foreign one to the brunette as one would hardly consider the distribution of illegal pharmaceuticals to be a traditional job. It was the second time that the young woman had made a vague reference to her lucrative career and Liah had to admit that her interest was piqued. As the duchess had admitted to being non experienced as a supplier than she certainly couldn't be referring to the manufacture of illegal drugs. However, the twenty three year old knew that when it came to operating outside the confines of the law one just didn't just outright ask about a person's occupation.
With that in mind Liah opted to feign stupidity as she replied "You might have a point there. I suppose if I really find myself in a bind then I could easily get a job at that club a couple of blocks down from my current job. Still getting objectified but at least I'd get paid for it. A couple of those dancers come into the bar from time to time with these fat wads of cash that are just tips."
While she clearly had no intention of ever pursuing a career in the sex industry, the mere thought of becoming a part of that environment was enough to prompt the young woman to take another strong hit from the joint in her hand. As she exhaled sharply, something that the younger girl said struck a cord within Liah. Shifting a gaze towards the supplier that was far more attentive than she had been since the conversation had drifted away from the weed that the duchess had shared with her, Taliah responded "That's for damn sure. The game is always changing and you have to learn to change with it. If you can't then there's no point in playing. To be honest, I don't think that just applies to power. In my experience that's with anything. Nothing was ever handed to me. I had to fight for everything that I have."
As the young woman explained her process for the experimental drug, an amused grin flickered across Taliah's face. Shaking her head she added "I'll take your word on this one. I had a bad batch of molly once that has soured me on the hallucinogenic stuff. Wild night that was. What I can remember of it anyway."
While Taliah was far from ashamed of her ability, the twenty three year old still exercised great caution in whom she shared her metahuman status with. One never knew what type of reaction to expect when divulging this information. Still, the supplier didn't appear to be the type that was easily spooked and she was could always "fix" it if things went wrong... hopefully. With a casual shrug of her shoulders Liah replied "I have a tendency to get into peoples' heads. In something of a literal sense and alot of people find that annoying at best and unpleasant at worse." Words: 613 || Tagged: calico || Outfit || Notes

Words can't hurt me
Taliah Dawson
These shades are gucci Feeling like a ten, the best I've ever been The revelation that the supplier had worked two waitressing jobs prior to her most recent career change interestingly enough didn't come as much of a surprise to Taliah. Waitressing was hardly a career choice that one made consciously but rather something that a person fell into when all other prospects had dissipated. It wasn't where you started out in life but rather where you ended up after life had chewed you up and spit you back out.
Jamming her free hand into the pocket of her bomber, Taliah withdrew her Samsung Galaxy. Taking note of the time, Taliah responded with minimal interest in the topic at hand "This is my first waitressing job and hopefully my last. The food is great, the customers...not so much. Unless of course you like being oogled, catcalled, and slapped on the ass. On the bright side, if you can complete the whole shift without punching a customer, they usually tip well."
Every now and then as the ring of smoke broke apart and was carried off by the wind, the brunette's reverie was penetrated by the hustle and bustle of the unwitting passengers whom apparently had also failed to comprehend the announcement. A single mother cradling a wailing infant against her shoulder while clinging to the hand of a squirming child seemed particularly vexed with the overly apologetic ticketmaster. God, I hate kids, the young woman thought to herself.
The duchess spoke again forcing the twenty three year old to tear her gaze from the plight of the single mother back to the woman seated next to her. Taliah's lips curled at the corners forming a natural smirk as she replied "Yeah, you're probably right. We just had one girl quit and another one is out on maternity leave, so he pretty much needs me. Not that he'd ever admit it though. Maybe, it's the weed or maybe I'm just over the job, but part of me kind of wishes that he would just fire me, so I can move the hell on."
Had it always been so exhausting and taxing to maintain a conversation, Taliah wondered as the supplier began to explain how she crafted her product and what her intentions were regarding its distribution. Well, she supposed the last part was of some use to her. Knowing how much was available would be beneficial in deciding how to market it. Nodding partially in agreement and partially to project the illusion of keeping up with the conversation Liah answered "Yeah, I think it hit everyone a bit hard. Most of us didn't really think that it was ever going to happen, but those are the breaks. You learn to roll with the punches or you get KOed."
It was then that the supplier said something that actually drew the waitress's attention. The brunette quirked a brow as the duchess explained that the product she intended for Taliah to distribute wasn't weed. She had just parted her lips to inquire just what it was that the woman had bought for her to test drive when the supplier quickly followed up with a detailed explanation of her product. Taliah grew silent as she considered the younger woman's words.
"A psychoactive substance, huh? Kind of like Molly? Is it in pill form or what? I am pretty sure I can push it and I'd be curious myself to see how it sells. I don't have too many customers that are really all that worried about keeping up to date with the latest in illegal drugs, but those that are truly a lost cause don't care what they take as log as it gets them high."
The duchess's grin compelled Taliah to force her own lips into a aesthetically pleasing smile that somehow felt out of place on the young woman's face.
"Sounds like a good call there. It's probably not best to mix the effects anything. I'd prefer to come down from one high before launching immediately into another, plus this is hardly the place that I would want to be rendered unconscious in."To be honest, I am likely far more pleasant to be around when asleep then when wide awake but I appreciate the sentiment. nonetheless."
Forced laughter erupted from Taliah's throat at her own joke as she thought to herself that perhaps the conversation would be more enjoyable if she was in fact unconscious.
