Rarely had Aoi encountered such resistance in her trainees. It was vexing, to say the least. Most people wanted to better themselves, become a more effective Hero. Sunny seemed to have no such ambitions. As far as Aoi could surmise, she was in it for the image, the title, the glamour. It was insulting. Law enforcement was an incredibly important position, yet Sunny acted so frivolous about the whole ordeal. Any guilt Aoi might have felt about her previous outburst about the incident at the red carpet had long been washed away. That last precious strand of patience that Aoi had been so desperately trying to keep together snapped as Sunny failed to do more than two push ups. A Hero should never be this out of shape. It should not be allowed. It was an insult, a disgrace. She would not let Sunny’s failure stand. Despite her patience having completely worn away, Aoi remained stoic, as always. She was not one for showing her emotions. She was fuming. Anyone that knew her (that being her dad and no one else) could see the steam rising off of her, but anyone else would simply see her usual resting bitch face, her arms crossed perhaps a bit tighter than usual, her knuckles white and her well trimmed nails digging into her skin. She would not, however, directly take her anger out on Sunny. No, that would be against regulation, and going against any kind of regulation was the last thing she wanted to do. She would go by the books. If someone did something wrong - as Sunny had clearly done, being in a position of law enforcement as weak and unprepared as she was - there would be some law that would punish them accordingly. Aoi checked her watch. “We have just run out of time,” she said. “So yes, we will stop for the day. I will report your lack of abilities to the Program, and if they decide to keep you on, I will see you next week.” She grabbed the planks of wood, put them under her arm, and unfurled her wings. ”If you have any hopes of staying in the Program, I suggest you become better prepared.” She took off into the air, flying far away from the absolute disgrace that she had the misfortune of training (or at least trying). Arms crossed, face stern, Aoi watched as Sunny begged not to do anymore push ups as if she were pleading for her life. This made no sense to Aoi. Exercise was important, rewarding, and, at least to Aoi, fun. It perplexed Aoi as to why Sunny would be averse to physical exertion. Aoi loved exercising and she was confused as to why other people didn’t love it as well. The endorphins that flooded one’s brain after a good workout were just one of the many rewards for such an activity. She figured that would be enough for Sunny. Apparently, it wasn’t. ”Punches are not push ups,” she said. At least Sunny was making something of an effort, which was more than she could say for the beginning of the session. How long had it been? She checked her watch and her face almost showed surprise. They’d been there for that long? And Sunny had barely thrown a punch. She looked at the pile of wooden planks on the ground. It seemed they weren’t going to get to those today. She let out a sharp breath from her nose. As much as she’d like to persist, she had other responsibilities to get to today. She had a briefing in half an hour followed by a patrol around the Bronx. She was not, however, going to give up that easily. She’d teach Sunny something valuable today if it killed her. "Five push ups, one good punch, and we’ll wrap it up for the day,” she said. “Oh” was right. It seemed something had finally gotten through that thick skull of hers. Clearly, she was disappointed. ”If you want to be an actress, you’re in the wrong field,” Aoi said coldly. Heroes were meant to keep the peace, not entertain people. If she wanted to act, she could just go on her television show (something that Aoi also thought was ridiculous, not to mention highly unprofessional). Aoi watched carefully as Sunny followed her movement. ”Good,” she said succinctly as Sunny did a surprisingly decent job at copying her form. What Sunny lacked in strength, she made up for, at least in part, in technique. That was the important part. Anyone could be strong with enough exercise. It took skill to throw a proper punch. Perhaps that time on the runway had benefited Sunny after all. Not everything was correct, however, as Sunny’s heel was raised too far off the ground, and as she twisted, she fell to the ground. Aoi thought about catching her flailing arms as she descended - she certainly had the ability to do so - but she decided Sunny deserved it. Her form was incorrect, and thus she should be punished for erroneous actions. How else was she going to learn? Aoi crossed her arms. ”You used your powers. Five more push-ups.” Sure, her form was halfway decent, but if she was going to throw any power with that punch, she needed to increase her strength. Aoi figured this served as both a punishment and a decent way for Sunny to get in some much needed exercise. Sunny Slater

Okay, no more metaphors. ”I am not training you to act,” Aoi said. ”I am training you to fight and improve your abilities as a Hero. That does not include theatrics. I would imagine that would be obvious.” Though it seemed the obvious often eluded Sunny. She was lucky Aoi was as persistent as she was. Patient, not so much. In fact, her patience was wearing very, very thin. So thin, in fact, that a single gust of wind could break it. But Aoi was damned if she wasn’t going to do what she set out to do and train this little mess of a Hero. ”That is not correct,” she said simply. ”Let me demonstrate again. Watch carefully.” Aoi assumed her fighter’s stance. Again, in slow motion, she brought her fist forward as she twisted her foot (as if squishing a bug or scraping gum off the tip of her shoe), moving her whole body with her slow motion punch. Then again, slowly, she brought her fist back to her face and resumed her stance. She repeated the movement at full speed. ”Now, do what I just did.” No metaphors, obviously they only served to confuse Sunny. She would be straightforward and simple. Sunny Slater

Aoi furrowed her brow ever so slightly at Sunny’s exclamation of pain. That punch should not have hurt. It was far too weak to have any impact, and Aoi caught it in such a way that the inertia of the punch (what little there was) would be gradually slowed. Still, it seemed the minimal force of her weak little punch was still enough to reverberate down her skinny little arm. More and more, Sunny was looking like a lost cause, but Aoi didn’t give up that easily. The lost cause notion was challenged, however, when Sunny adopted the stance Aoi demonstrated for her accurately and with relative ease. This surprised Aoi. Up until then Sunny hadn’t been anything but incompetent. There may be some hope for her after all. Aoi showed her approval with a curt nod. Aoi’s emotional range didn’t allow for much more than that. It was when Aoi mentioned the ‘squishing the bug’ simile (that all of her coaches have used to demonstrate the proper motion when throwing a punch since she was seven) did things go right back to being wrong. The blood drained from Sunny’s face, a look of terror spread across her features. At first Aoi was confused. What was she so terrified about? The answer came relatively quickly as she acted as if she were trying (and failing) to kill an actual bug, followed by a far-too-loud expression of disgust. “There. Is. No. Bug.” Aoi said as slowly as she could, as if talking to a toddler (in her own harsh, severe way). ”It was simply a visual to improve your form.” Perhaps she should have figured by now that Sunny didn’t squish bugs. She let out a little sigh through her nose and looked to the side, thinking for a second. ”Try that again. Return to the stance. Repeat my instructions, and twist your foot as if you got gum stuck to the front of your shoe.” She figured that would be a situation Sunny was more familiar with. Sunny Slater

Aoi watched stoically as Sunny tried desperately to keep herself from touching the ground before falling on her back, exhausted. Anyone else would have found this funny, but Aoi didn’t find anything funny. She just stood, arms crossed, waiting silently for Sunny to get herself together - her resting bitch face unmoving, the sun slowly setting behind her; her massive figure casting a shadow over the pink little Hero. She was somewhat surprised at Sunny’s nonchalant reaction to the man who came to deliver her a present. Maybe he was part of the Program. Whatever. Aoi decided to put it out of her mind. She had more pressing matters to attend to. Finally, it seemed, Sunny recovered some of her energy. Not all of it, far from it, but enough that she could stand. Aoi remained still as Sunny approached her and thrust out her fist. With lightning fast reflexes (though reflexes at that caliber weren’t necessarily required), she caught Sunny’s fist with her hand, her massive palm dwarfing Sunny’s balled up little fist. Now she knew where Sunny stood. She couldn’t say she was surprised at the extent of her ineptitude. ”That’s incorrect.” She said simply, releasing Sunny’s hand. ”Watch me.” Aoi curled her hands into fists and put them close to her face, right under her eyes, standing with her left foot forward and her right foot back. ”You’ll want to place your fists in front of your face, thumb on the outside. Put your left foot forward and your right foot back.” Aoi could tell from observing Sunny that she was right-handed - handedness was one of the first things one needed to observe about their opponent - so no need for a southpaw stance. She slowly extended her fist, throwing a slow motion punch. ”Throw with your dominant hand. Turn your wrist and twist your back foot like you’re squishing a bug.” She said as she demonstrated. Finishing her presentation, she stood straight once more. ”Try it again.”Sunny Slater

Aoi tensed as soon as she heard the sound of a chopper. No one should know where they were besides the Program. Did the Program send someone? They wouldn’t need a helicopter though, would they? She extended her wings and put up her hands, ready for action. ”Stay there. Don’t do anything.” She instructed Sunny.
The man who descended from the helicopter looked quite official, and it put her somewhat at ease. He didn’t seem prepared for combat, but she didn’t lower her stance. Not until he took out the envelope and handed it to her. Slowly, muscles still tensed and ready, she reached out and took it from his grasp. She watched carefully as the man took out the pen, drew a line in his notebook, and gave her a salute. She remained stiff as her eyes followed him back to the helicopter.
Once he was gone, she folded up her wings and turned her eyes back toward the envelope. She inspected it carefully: sniffed it, held it up to the light. There was nothing suspicious about it. Carefully, she opened it and pulled out the contents. It was a voucher for a weekend getaway spa in Malibu, with the flights paid for. It contained a message: 'You need a weekend to relax. I hope you enjoy. XXX From your tippity top secret Santa’
Spa? Relax? Who was this from? Did they even know her? “Relax” wasn’t in her dictionary. Her first instinct was to toss it away. Then she looked at the pink little mess in front of her, back at the voucher, then back at Sunny. Aoi pocketed the voucher. She could deal with it later. She put her hands back by her sides. ”Ignore that. Now, hit me.”

Much to Aoi’s chagrin, it seemed that Sunny had interpreted her “try again” as “only do three more.” In any other situation, she would correct the young woman’s mistake, but she doubted if Sunny was even capable of doing the five in a row that she requested. Not to mention, they needed to get on with the training. They would go to nightfall if they had to. They would go on to the next day. Unfortunately, however, they didn’t have a week. Aoi had other duties to attend to, and she was sure some dunce at the Program had given Sunny responsibilities as well. This regiment had to be completed, even if it meant cutting a corner or two. ”You have.” Aoi said, monotone. At least the girl could be proud of her - to put it liberally - accomplishments. Unfortunately, her celebration included “never doing it again.” ”You will have to do it again.” Aoi said. ”Many, many times. If you want to be an effective Hero, you will have to be strong: mentally, physically, and in the use of your powers. We are focusing on the second aspect, so you will be doing many more physical activities in order to increase your strength in that area.” Aoi thought Sunny could use improvement in all those areas, but that wasn’t her assignment. ”Stop using your powers. You will touch the ground. It can’t hurt you, I see no reason why you should be avoiding it.” Aoi didn’t particularly take into account Sunny’s girlish aversion to getting dirty. She found it illogical that she would use her powers to avoid some simple dirt and grass. ”Now that we know your abilities, I will make you do five push-ups every time you use your powers.” The implication being that she would be able to go on her knees, but Aoi didn’t like saying something like that. It was bad enough she had to speak those words once; she most certainly didn’t want to do it again. ”Now,” she stood straight and tall, ”punch me as hard and fast as you can in the best way you know how without using your powers. I need to judge your current ability.” Aoi didn’t have much hope for Sunny, but she had a plan and she wanted to stick to it. She did this with all her students, and while Sunny was a bit of a special case, she saw no reason why she should treat her any differently. ”Don’t worry, it won’t hurt.” She said. At least, it wouldn’t hurt Aoi; depending on Sunny’s technique, it could hurt her student, but Aoi would try to keep that pain to a minimum. Sunny Slater

Deep breaths. Aoi was not accustomed to people fighting back against her orders. Her imposing demeanor and assertive voice typically shut down any dissent. It seemed Sunny’s head was so thick that Aoi’s warnings simply couldn’t get through. ”If you wish to destroy your feet that is your choice. Just know that it will inhibit your ability to effectively fulfill your duties as Hero. I am here to assist you in that manner. You can choose to either listen to me or risk endangering yourself or the public.” Aoi had given up trying to force Sunny into anything. If she didn’t listen to Aoi, it was her loss. Aoi would report Sunny’s resistance to the Program, and they would punish her accordingly. Aoi watched Sunny as she went down in push-up position, copying her descent. She saw the effort on Sunny’s face. That was good. That meant she was trying. The pain of exercise was the first step toward gaining strength. Aoi always enjoyed the pain. Not in a masochistic way. No, it meant she was getting stronger. Everytime she did an exercise regiment, she went as hard and as fast as she could until it hurt, and then she went twice as long as the build up to the pain. It was satisfying to feel that she was bettering herself. Not the mention the endorphin rush afterwards. As far as she was concerned, exercise was the only acceptable way to get high. Aoi let out an exasperated breath as Sunny collapsed into the grass, unable to perform the simplest of exercises. Sunny had tried, she really had. It was obvious. It seemed she was physically incapable of fulfilling Aoi’s request. She was an even more desperate case than Aoi had anticipated. There was no way Aoi could teach Sunny the art of combat if she didn’t have any muscles to combat with. Muscles were a combatant's weapon, and one could not fight without a weapon. Aoi breathed in deeply, then let the breath out, slow and steady, still in the downward push-up position. ”You can go on your knees.” The words hurt to speak. Doing a push-up on one’s knees were the weakest way to perform the exercise - they communicated fragility. Aoi had never done a push-up on her knees in her life. But it seemed they had no other option. ”Let’s try again.” Aoi extended her arms so she was in the upward position. ”On your knees, if you must.” Sunny Slater

At the rate they were going at, it would be sundown before they made any progress, if they made any at all. She was failing at her job and that was not something she could accept. She’d have to… compromise. Her lip curled at the thought. One should not compromise when it came to discipline, nor should they do so when it came to the art of combat. It went against every bone in her body, but there was no other option. If she wanted to make any progress at all, she’d have to meet Sunny in the middle. ”At least get rid of the heels.” Aoi said, trying her best to ‘meet in the middle.’ ”Extended periods wearing heels can cause hammer toes, bunions, and ingrown toenails at best, permanent hip damage at worst. Not to mention they are highly ineffective in a fight unless you plan on using the heel to stab someone, which I wouldn’t recommend. A stab like that could be lethal, and lethal force should only be applied when absolutely necessary.” As in that fight with the mysterious assailant that killed her fans and the police officers, she thought but didn’t say aloud. She wanted to put that argument behind them. Thankfully, it seemed Sunny had given up fighting Aoi’s orders, but it was obvious she couldn’t fulfill them. Her form was terrible - no surprise there - and she couldn’t do more than two push ups on her knees. Aoi’s record was fifteen thousand seven hundred and sixty-two consecutively. Although this was no doubt assisted by her powers, she also attributed this accomplishment to her rigorous fitness regiment that she’d sustained since she was a child. She couldn’t imagine being a weak as Sunny. Still, she had to meet her in the middle. They had to accomplish what Sunny could reasonably do, and it was obvious that forty push ups was far outside her capacity. Aoi got down on the ground in push up position next to Sunny. ”We’ll do five.” Aoi said. ”I’ll do them with you. Take your knees off the ground. Make your back as flat as you can. Imagine a plank on your back. Imagine it touching every part of your body. Place your palms so they’re slightly wider than your shoulders. Then go down, breathing in.” She went down, breathing in, bending her elbows, holding perfectly still. Sustaining this position was a high intensity move, she didn’t expect Sunny to copy her. ”Keep your back flat, your elbows at a ninety degree angle. Then come back up, breathing out.” She extended her arms, breathing out, returning to her original position. ”Like I said, I’ll do them with you. If you need to rest briefly between them, then do so, but the faster you do them, the faster you’ll get them over with.” Then they could start training properly. Aoi remained in her push up position, ready for Sunny to begin. Sunny Slater

Aoi exerted little to no effort as the strength left the young metahuman, holes ceased appearing in the walls of the safe. ”Language, Paladin.” She scolded as his body went limp. She uncoupled herself from her hold, his limbs falling to the floor, and stood above him. He was breathing steadily. If not for the awkward position his body was in, he would’ve looked quite peaceful. Bruises would certainly show on the areas she had put pressure on - particularly around the neck - but other than that, she’d caused no harm. ”He showed a willingness to harm others and contains a potentially lethal force in his palms, it was absolutely necessary.” Aoi responded. ”I warned him of the consequences of his actions were he to retaliate. He did not cooperate. He aimed his palm at me, which I believe is how he directs his powers, so I took the appropriate course of action and neutralized the threat.” She spoke plainly, professionally, giving a report of the events that occurred without opinion, emotion, or embellishment. ”I caused no more or less damage to the perpetrator than was necessary. My actions were reasonable and justified.”Aoi picked up his body with ease, slinging him over her shoulder, not harshly, but not exactly gently either. “He needs to be transported to containment before he regains consciousness. Since I am the one that neutralized him, I believe it is my duty to turn him in and give the report. If you would like to accompany me and give your own report, you may, though I would suggest you continue the patrol without me and give your report once you have completed the route.” Aoi started walking out of the safe. ”I would also request that you do damage control here. I would assist, but it’s imperative that I contain the perpetrator before he regains consciousness to reduce further risk of damage.” She walked out of the bank and took off into the air, holding on to the unconscious body of the young man, heading straight towards a place where they could contain him. Aoi was glad that Paladin went down with the teller. With her powers, she should be able to keep them safe. She heard her order the teller to direct her to the stairs. Aoi didn’t know the layout of the bank. She didn’t know how quickly it would take Paladin to come back. She supposed her help could be useful, but Aoi had no doubt that she could handle this alone. She’d been in far more precarious situations on her own and come out victorious. The young man was breathing heavily, eyes quickly darting back and forth. Aoi could practically see the gears turning in his head. ”Stay where you are and do not attempt to use your powers. Come with me and cooperate. If you do not, your punishment will be more severe.” Criminals typically reacted in one of two ways to her threats. Either they were scared into submission, or their fight or flight response would kick in and they would try to escape or fight back. Aoi always believed that those that went with the latter option were more guilty and thus deserved their harsher punishment. She was standing off with the young metahuman (well, flying, he was standing) when she heard Paladin’s rather harsh words come through her earpiece. Aoi knew she was perhaps not the most adept at dealing with others’ emotions, but there was no room for emotion in law. Either a criminal cooperated with the law or not, and she believed she communicated the wishes of the law in the most succinct, honest, and effective way possible. “That’s no way to talk to a coworker, Paladin.” She said plainly. She’d gotten shit talked to on the job many times before, ever since she first joined the force. She didn’t mind the harsh words, but she did mind the unprofessionalism, so she always brought it up to HR. It was a hassle, and she’d rather not do it, but her coworkers needed to act professional. The young man, eyes wide, suddenly brought a hand up towards Aoi. That was her cue to act. She didn’t know what his power could do to the human body. He could put a hole right through her stomach and her innards could spill out, or he could put one in her head, killing her instantly. He was officially putting her in danger. With one giant flap of her wings, she circled around the man. He tried to track her with his hand but he couldn’t keep up. She dove toward him, and as fast as her strong, able body could, knocked him to the floor and put him in a modified version of an Inverse Armbar, facing him downward, trapping his right arm between her leg and her neck and his left arm between her other leg and his right arm, palms facing outward. She start squeezing her leg around his neck, slowly choking him. He desperately tried to use his powers, but to no avail as his hands were trapped facing the walls of the safe, unable to hit her. His face started turning blue, she could feel his body going limp. She was not attempting to kill him, she simply aimed to knock him out. Alice Morrow

”I’m sure you have plenty of other hundred dollar bills that you can give out to people.” Aoi said. She stood still, body and face unmoving as Sunny gave her speech. She sucked in a sharp breath as Sunny proudly explained that she was a good person because she didn’t kill the assailant. Sunny absolutely should have used lethal force in that situation. It would’ve saved countless lives. But she didn’t say anything. She let Sunny finish talking without saying a word. Once Sunny had finished her spiel, Aoi pinched the bridge of her nose and let out a deep breath. She had gotten emotional. She’d put herself in Sunny’s place. She was thinking of all the people she could’ve saved should the assailant have attacked Aoi instead of Sunny. She was speaking as if Sunny had any agency in the situation. It was quickly becoming clear that she simply didn’t know any better. She was substituting will for incompetence. They were not here to argue right and wrong, what someone should have or should not have done. They were here for physical training. ”I apologize.” She said, straightening out. ”My qualms are not with you, but with the Hero Program. We’re here today to learn combat, not argue. My emotions got the better of me and that should not have happened.” She spoke plainly and professionally, like a subordinate officer speaking to their chief. She still had that edge in her voice, she always did, but her sentiment was genuine, and she hoped that came through in her words. ”But do not bring up the police force. Your ignorance of the subject is insulting and you have no right to talk about them.” She said evenly. She didn’t intend any malice, she was simply giving Sunny an order. Most of the people she trained came to training willingly. They did what she said without protest. It was obvious that this wouldn’t be the case with Sunny, so she’d attempted to use Sunny’s failure as a means to motivate her to participate and better her abilities. Things, however, got impassioned, which was unproductive. Aoi had never been good with emotionally volatile situations. She found she had a difficult time empathizing with others, thus when others got upset, her instinct was to simply tell them that they were being unproductive and that they should stop. If they didn’t comply, Aoi would sometimes get angry and yell at them. This didn’t often work, and typically another officer or Hero would have to come in to deal with the emotions of a victim or a witness or a suspect. It was a weakness that Aoi was working to rectify. Thus far, she hadn’t made much progress. It seemed, at least, Sunny was attempting to follow Aoi’s orders. She was still using her powers to avoid touching the ground, but at least she was trying to take off those ridiculous shoes. Aoi watched for a moment as Sunny struggled before sighing and bending down. ”Straighten your legs.” She ordered. Using her enhanced strength, she pulled off Sunny’s shoes (boots) and threw them by her own. ”Next time wear something more practical and easier to remove.” She repeated, standing up. ”And you can do forty push ups without the use of your powers. It may take some time, but I’ll wait.” She didn’t increase the number of push ups she required from her for the continuous use of her powers as a silent means of apology. Still, ”That means you need to stop using your powers. You will have to touch the ground.” She ordered. Sunny Slater

As Paladin, to Aoi’s surprise and appreciation, did her job effectively and cleared out the bank, Aoi did some quick reconnaissance, scouting the area to make sure there were no other metahumans (or regular humans) in the area that appeared to be assisting the suspect in their crime. With the height provided by her wings and acute eye for detail, she spotted no one else that may be complicit in this crime. Though with metahumans having an array of powers, there was always the possibility that someone was cloaking themselves through invisibility or a similar superpower, so she remained watchful. “The suspect appears to be acting alone, but remain vigilant.” She said. Once she was done with her reconnaissance and the bank appeared to be mostly cleared out, she dove down to the entrance and walked inside. Wasting no time, she walked up to the teller and showed her badge. “Dragonfly with the San Francisco Hero Program. There appears to be a breaking and entering at your bank perpetrated by a metahuman. The suspect opened a hole in the back of your bank and walked through. Is your safe located in the back of this bank?”“It is.” The teller responded, surprisingly calm. ”Take us to it.”The teller nodded and led the Heroes towards the back of the bank to a steel door guarded by a combination lock. The teller was about to bring their finger toward the lock when Aoi grabbed their wrist. ”Tell me the code, I’ll enter it.”“Why?” “I don’t trust you to input the code fast enough and we don’t want to give the suspect time to escape.”The teller shrugged. “Fair enough. The code is four-six-zero-one-five.” ”You need a more secure code. It should be at least ten digits long and changed a maximum of every three days. The one you have currently is not secure enough.”“Okay.” The teller said nonchalantly. As fast as her fingers could move, Aoi typed in the five digit code and quickly swung open the door. Inside, she found a young man looking around the safe with awe. He started as the door swung open and Aoi entered the room. “Shit! Okay, I-I know how this looks, but I-I was just testing out my powers, I swear!” He stuttered. Aoi looked around. Despite the sketchiness of the situation, it seemed the young man was telling the truth. He had no bags to stuff with cash, he had no items on him nor countenance which would suggest he was scouting out the area. He genuinely seemed like a young man toying around with his newfound powers. Still, he broke the law, which was all that mattered to Aoi. ”Do not attempt to escape or your punishment will be much more severe.” She stepped toward him. ”Come with us and cooperate or your punishment will be much more severe.”His breathing quickened. He suddenly put a hand toward the floor beneath Aoi, Paladin, and the teller’s feet. A hole opened up below them. Aoi quickly started flying to avoid falling, though she couldn’t say the same for the teller who fell to a level below them, the hole closing up above them as they hit the basement floor. The young metahuman suddenly turned toward the back of the safe and started to open a hole in the wall. Aoi quickly flew between the man and the opening, ready to catch him should he attempt to escape. Alice Morrow

Paladin was naive. That much was clear. Aoi had, for quite awhile, been rather upset at the Hero Program for hiring so many naive, inexperienced, unprofessional young people and giving them the title of Hero. She supposed the police force did essentially the same thing, but she’d never been happy about that either. Besides, the police were a starting point, they were generally considered beneath Heroes in the law enforcement hierarchy. They at least had some excuse. A position as Hero should be taken much more seriously. Unfortunately, it seemed this was not the case. Some people at the Program clearly valued image over efficiency. ”We enforce the law, Paladin, whatever that may be, metahuman or not.” She replied. Sure, their job title may specifically focus on metahumans, but she believed that anyone with any job in law enforcement should enforce the law, be it as petty as littering or as severe as terrorism. ”No we are not the police, we outrank them. We have more responsibility than them and should act as such.” She said frankly. The next hour or so passed in relative silence, with Aoi diving down every now and then to stop people from committing petty crimes such as jaywalking or littering. Once she caught a young woman attempting to write on a dumpster in an alley with a sharpie. In other words: vandalism. Luckily (for the woman), she caught her before the marker touched the metal and simply left her with a stern talking to. They were making their way through the middle class area when Aoi spotted something, visible only from her position in the sky. A figure standing at the back of a bank. They looked left, right, behind them, then held their hand out toward the brick wall in front of them. A roughly six foot wide hole appeared in the wall and the figure stepped right through, the hole closing behind them. The wall hadn’t even begun opening before Aoi tucked her wings in and dove toward the bank. ”US Bank at your two o’clock across the street. A metahuman created a hole in the wall in the back and walked inside. They appear to be breaking and entering.” She said tactically as she dove toward the establishment. Alice Morrow
