Looking closer at the woman, Brian noticed some familiar signs. Jagged, rotten teeth, lesions on her pale, sickly skin, dark circles under the eyes. She was an addict, obviously from a lower class background, thus the uneven teeth; her family likely couldn’t afford a dentist or orthodontist. The same went for Brian growing up, he was just lucky enough to have his teeth grow in straight. Her addiction would certainly explain her actions. Brian had done similar things in his time under the influence of the bottle. He hadn’t really been thinking about her motives before, but now, seeing the pain that this woman was in, the desperation in her eyes, he felt a pang in his heart. He needed to help her.
“Aw, Brian, you’re so sweet.”
“He certainly has a caring soul.”
“Bullshit. He’s a killer!” Dennis snapped.
The image of that woman’s head splitting open like a watermelon flashed through Brian’s brain, but he quickly shook it off. He could beat himself up about his past later. Now, he had a job to do. He tried to take another step when a shooting pain went up his leg. ”Agh!” He grunted. He could barely move his injured leg. That explosion must’ve torn through his muscles. He supposed that was the problem with expanding your muscles, it made you a bigger target. If that woman were to point a finger at him again, he’d be done for.
Luckily, Athena and Cesar came to the rescue, attacking the woman from either side. Brian was impressed at their coordination. Most humans couldn’t work that well together. He cringed, however, as the woman created two explosions directed at the canines. Athena avoided it, but Cesar, miraculously, shook it off, slowing down for only a moment before charging right through it. He had a bit of hope for a second before the woman created a hole in the floor where Athena was about to step and the two dogs? crashed right into each other.
The woman made a break for it. She was fast, much faster than Brian would’ve anticipated for someone in her state. It must’ve been the adrenaline, Brian decided. In his time as a vigilante, he’d learned that adrenaline could be a powerful force of nature, more powerful than actual superpowers in some instances.
Brain turned his head toward Isaiah as he spoke. He was impressed by Isaiah’s calmness. This must not be his first time doing something like this. Maybe he was a Hero?
”Heroes do not wear ski masks.”
”True.” Brian muttered. He must've been a vigilante, like himself.
A part of him just wanted to let the woman get away, but he knew he couldn't help her if he just let her go. There was no way she could function on her own and she'd probably try something like this again. He looked down at his leg, an idea forming in his mind. He expanded the muscles in his uninjured leg until it was three times its size, putting all his weight on it, alleviating any pressure on the leg with a massive hole in it (well, massive might’ve been hyperbole, but that’s what it felt like). He could hobble around now, and even lunge if he needed to, but there was no way he could run. ”Could I um, ride on one of your...dogs?” He asked, not sure if they qualified as dogs anymore. ”I promise I can still help, I just can’t go very fast at the moment.”
