Paladin Am I more than you bargained for yet? | All of this was difficult to understand, the idea that people with powers had been around 'forever'. Will had talked about it, how they'd been in hiding. Even so, it really hadn't sunk in until now. The way the girl said it they'd clearly been practising this secrecy for as long as she could remember, and from the emphasis she placed on the word probably even longer.
There was no explanation who they were though. It sounded like they had some sort of agency, like the Men in Black who made sure that the world wasn't informed of the aliens living among them. She'd almost have preferred if they were the Men in Black, at least in the movie they hadn't inspired the same kind of fear that whoever they were did.
She stared down at the number on her forearm, then back at Punk. At least it meant that if she really needed to call someone about this, someone who might know something she could.
"Thanks… but wait… please… who are they? I don't really know what's going on but it would at least be nice to know who it is that's going to be kicking down my door."
That was a sobering thought. Even after the fight, adrenaline had still been pumping through her body, and it still was. She felt wired, as though she could read a thousand page book and then write a ten thousand word dissertation on it. This had been similar to the experience of the Ice Bucket Challenge. Mysterious organisations that kept tabs on people with powers... It was like she'd stepped out of the real world and right into a conspiracy theorists personal paranoia.
"I'm sorry for… getting you involved I guess… whoever these people are… they sound serious…"

live fast, die young Her sympathy was definitely going to get her into massive trouble someday. Deep, deep, way deep down inside, Cory had long ago admitted to herself that she'd probably either die from a heart attack caused by a bass beat so intense it rattled her hear rate while dancing, or... by getting hit with a truck while walking an old lady across the street.
"They're... in charge," she shrugged, shaking her head and lifting her arms just enough to let them drop exasperatingly back down. "There's a lot of them. It's not a business. More like... a nation you didn't know about. I'm a legal citizen, but you-," her face scrunched and a sigh left her nose. This girl was going to have one hell of a time if any Family but her own found out and reported it to the Council. How fast would they act? How big would they make something like this? It threatened them.
No power-holding entity in the world did well with being threatened. Cory lifted her hand to the side of her jaw to extend her pinkie and thumb; a sign for a phone as she stepped backwards a few steps. "You know how to reach me. Wash it off when you get home. Stay safe, Pal," she nodded apologetically, but turned on a heel and was quick to leap back up the air unite effortlessly and then again to a fire escape higher above, climbing and twisting her way to the rooftop in seconds to be in the safety of the empty skyline.
