Let the Healing Begin Nate looked calm on the outside, but inwardly he was panicking. He didn’t want to give Sky the hope that she could prevent her visions from coming true if they were in fact inevitable outcomes. Generally, he didn’t believe that the future was set in stone and so could imagine that Sky’s information could in fact save lives, but was it worth the risk of setting her back if she failed?
“You’ve never tried to stop these visions happening before?”
Even just a small one – a vision of knocking something from a shelf and so going out of her way to avoid it – would be enough to confirm that there was some hope.
He nodded. “We won’t let anyone die if we can help it, okay? We’ll have to alert Dr. Williams – she’s the most senior here and she had a special interest in your case, so I’m sure she’d want to help you if she could.” Joyce Williams was hard to read but Nate was fairly sure she wouldn’t be motivated by altruistic reasons. No, she would be interested in witnessing the usefulness of Sky’s power in person – but if that helped these people along the way, then it was worth it.
Nate waited patiently while Sky returned to the bathroom once more, her safe place in this room, it seemed. “We’ll have to see if your actions are able to avoid outcomes – your vision may just be one likely probability which we could try and stop. I think you would probably benefit from some kind of mindfulness training, or maybe some meditation if that interests you, to help you feel more in control of them. But right now, what do you think? Could we stop this?”

Sky's world changed, the day of the event changed lives, it changed hers and it killed her father. Doctors, pills and hospital wards locked up for almost a year because of visions that plauged her. Now one ambulance ride and a new insitute, a new doctor and now being told she maybe able to see the future? That thought sent a cold chill down her spine.
While she was scared at the thought of being able to see the future, she was more scared about the outcomes. Like this current vision that was more intense then any other she had, if it's true alot of people, including babies were going to die and it would be all her fault because she knew it was going to happen in the first place.
The kind doctor before her had asked if she ever tried to stop from happening before?
Sky sat up on the bed and cocked her head to the side, kinda looked like a cute puppy when you make a noise and they toss thier head to the side, however the way she did wasnt cute, there was a look of both confusion and relief at the same time.
She never tried to stop them before because she didn't know what was happening. There were a few times she thought she was suffering from da' jav', she was to intent on just not having the visions all together. She did not watch tv, listen to music or do much of anything save watching wildlife outside her window. Sky really thought she had went crazy the way the doctors had talked about her.
She sheeply and simply said "No." as she turned away from him feeling once again lost. "How do you control what you can do anything about?" she added "How are we going to save all those people from dying?" her eyes filled with tears but she didn't cry.
The doctor was telling her that they have to see if her actions could change the outcome of her visions and something about training? Sky was not to focused on what he was telling her, as she had been once more lost in thought. Could she do something about the vision? If she could, how?
"Please can we do something about helping those people?" That pleading look once more crossed her tear stained face.

Let the Healing Begin Nate’s heart sank a little when she revealed she’d never tried to stop any of her visions. They had nothing to go on. Clearly, when faced with the prospect of seeing the future, Sky had decided to do her best to turn and hide from her powers. She’d almost denied their very existence despite admitting that she had foreseen one of her own friends getting injured. She must have suspected, just as Nate now suspected, that it was more than just déjà vu.
In the way she tilted her head, Nate wondered if the childish action was generally reflective of some form of regressing to feel more vulnerable. Maybe it helped her to feel like a ‘victim’ of her power rather than facing it head-on and trying to take control. He tried to file that note away mentally for now – he would have to address it later once he was consolidating his notes. For now, there was a more pressing matter at hand.
“We need to do a little experimenting, I think, to see if we can affect the outcomes.”
Nate pulled a coin from his pocket. “How about I hide this in one of my hands, and you predict which one it’s going to be. If I can change it to the other hand then we know the visions don’t always come true and there’s a chance we can help this whole… burning building situation.” He hid his hands behind his back. “Left or right?”
Sky was still caught up in the emotion of the vision which was absolutely fair enough – what she’d just witnessed had been horrible even if it had been just a vision. Nate could be patient.
“If this experiment works, then we can try. Starting with alerting Dr. Williams.”

Sky's thoughts were on the vision and really not on the kind doctor however, when he said he wanted to do some experiments. She thought he was nuts, he wants her to do experiments while peoples lives were on the line? She gave a noticable huff and watched as he produced a coin and put it behind his back, tell her to guess which hand the coin was in.
"How is this going to help? What you did is a 50/ 50 outcome. I did not see it in my head, you showed me." Sky told him but gave a half hearted guess anyway. "Left." There was no vision and she didn't know how many of these things he was going to do to her but if she can see the future as he told her she might, then maybe she can save those people from dying. Other visions would still flash before her eyes but she tried to focus on just the one that seemed different, the one that was more intense then any other vision, like she was there. Right now that vision was the only one that mattered.
"So are you going to tell me if I am right?" Sky asked adding "What else do I have to do to get you to help those people, if you think I see the future, then please do something to save those people!" her voice was the most demanding that anyone would have heard from her in well over a year.
Sky was clearly becoming nervous more and more over this vision and weather or not those people could be saved.
Sky's thought about the past year and her visions, she could not remember any other time that something would come true, there were a few times that she felt like she had experienced something before, yet again, nothing like the present situation.
"PLEASE?!" Sky told the doctor with a demanding tone to her voice.

Let the Healing Begin He could tell by the slight huff that Sky hadn’t realised why it was so important to test whether they could avoid the outcomes of her visions, and it was with disappointment that he heard her say that she hadn’t seen it in her head. She didn’t seem interested in even trying, which was frustrating, but Nate did his best to coax her along.
Easily, he shifted the coin into his right hand instead. He put both his hands back in front then unveiled it quickly. “Well, I could change it. But that doesn’t matter if you didn’t predict it anyway. Do you see what I’m trying to do though?” It occurred to him that maybe Sky didn’t understand the whole process at all, let alone its significance. Perhaps she was too emotional to think straight, which was understandable.
Her tone was forceful now, adamantly demanding they do something to save the people in her vision. Nate had to hold himself back. I’m trying, if you would just listen to me. Sky raised her voice considerably as she pleaded with him.
He took a deep breath.
“I want to save those people. We will save those people if we can. I need to know if we can, and that means knowing that we can change the future you see. Okay?”
He was speaking slowly and calmly, keeping the frustration at bay for now. He too was worried about the vision Sky had described, and he too wanted to help, but he couldn’t risk setting her back with the trauma of failing to stop an inevitable conclusion.
“Can you see any other visions? Anything small, that we can try to stop? If we succeed, that means we’ll be able to try and help those people in your building-vision. But we need to know that’s possible first, or else we have no hope. We could try the coin again, but only if you really try this time. At the moment we could ask the building to be evacuated, but they won’t believe us without any proof – we need that. Okay?”
Nate could only hope he was getting through to her.

Sky didn't understand the doctors reasoning with these tests he wanted to do on her. To her the only thing she wanted, at that moment was to save lives. A thought rose in her head that sent another chill down her spine. 'WHEN?' was the building to go blow up and do all that destruction? She had no clue. it could be an hour? a day? a week? a month? a year? who knew? also was what she was seeing even real or something made up in her mind and she was really after all crazy to no end. This line of thinking depressed her and she gave up control to the kind doctor and his tests. She hoped that he could help her if it was a fact that she had some form of precognition ablitiy.
The doctor told her that he to wanted to save the people if they could be saved. He told her they needed to see if they could change the future first, something small. He asked if she wanted to try the coin again and if there were any visions that maybe they could change now.
It seemed so hopeless now, but she nodded as she held back tears. She sat like an indian on the bed, closing her eyes, she had her hands on her knees to keep her balance. She gave a sigh and tried to relax and let what ever images wash over her. There was to many at once, every vision merging with the next and another problem she noticed now . . . some went fast, some slow and some images stood still but flashed like beacons in the night, to many visions all at once for her still. Sky opened her eyes and began to cry, "I can't do this, I don't even know where to start, there are so many of them!"
She remained sitting but took the pillow from the bed and took it to her chest where she would continue to sob into it.

Let the Healing Begin Nate turned his attention back to the drawing for a second.
“Okay. How about we try to figure out how long we have. This vision seems very clear and specific, maybe there could be some clues as to when it occurs. If we know we have some time to stop it, then that should take the pressure off and you might find it easier to focus.”
He waited for Sky to emerge from sobbing into her pillow before sliding the picture across to her. His gaze was steady but firm as he looked at her, trying his best to help pull her out of her hysteria. He was speaking slowly but confidently now.
“Don’t worry about anything else. Try to remember this one. Look, you’ve done so well in remembering so much detail – you’re good at this! Trust me!”
Nate sat up a little straighter. “Close your eyes and just focus on your breathing. Just in, out, nice and calm. When you’re ready, try to step back into the vision. If it gets too much, just go back to your breathing. It’s okay. Take your time. There might be some hint as to when it happens, maybe the weather, the moon, a nearby newspaper or calendar even…”
Hopefully if Sky could succeed at this task then it would give her more confidence in focusing in on other visions that could then give them the proof they needed that her visions weren’t set in stone. The coin was slipped away into his pocket for now until she was ready.
“Close your eyes,” he instructed. “And breathe.”

Poor Sky was so confused, she didn't know if she was very gifted or very crazy even though the later seemed more passable at this point. She clearly had cried herself out and now she was still and silent. She could hear the doctor with his papers and he was talking to her now, she lifted her head and looked at him, her swollen, red face was no match for those hypnotic blue eyes of hers.
The kind doctor wanted her to do something, relax and concentrate on the vision that was of her concern with the people, she would do anything to save them, if she could, she had to try. She nodded to the doctor and sat again like an indian on the bed, the pillow in her lap, her hands again on her knees for balance. She closed her eyes and followed the doctors directions about her breathing and then into the vision that currently plaged her.
Images, fast, slow and many of them flowed before her, she tried to focus and she if she could find the vision again. Sky didn't know how all this worked, after all she was classified crazy just this morning before being transfered to the institute. She sighed with some frustration, she rolled her eyes and tried again. Adjusting her breathing once more she focused, milling through all the visions before her.
Sky was just about ready to give up when the vision came into view, her heart raced "I see it! I see it!" she said slowly as she kept her eyes closed. Sky didn't know what to look for so she just relaxed as the doctor said and let the vision unfold again before her. One could see her body tense and her hands gripped her knees now, her eyes quickly darting about, her mouth opened slightly and one could hear her breathing,
"Now what?" she carefully and slowly asked as she kept her focus on the vision before her.

Let the Healing Begin It seemed like Nate was finally getting through to Sky. In an instant she had managed to compose herself, tears no longer falling, and sat up on the bed with a nod in his direction. Then, closing her eyes, Sky began to take deep, peaceful breaths and Nate watched her cautiously for any signs of breaking down.
Miraculously, there were no more tears, only a frustrated sigh as she plunged back into the process with a roll of her eyes. Nate was amused – wondering if the girl had some secret attitude hidden behind the fear and vulnerability. He’d try to bring that to the surface by the end of her time here at the MNRU, he decided. If there was one thing Sky was severely lacking in, it was confidence.
Suddenly Sky broke the silence, her words slow but brimming with excitement. He saw her fingers tense on her knees as the vision came to life in her mind.
‘Now what’ was a good question, and one that Nate couldn’t possibly know if he had the right answer to or not. All he could do was make suggestions and hope that Sky’s intuition would guide her through the use of her power.
“We’re looking for some clue that could tell us when the vision happens,” he reminded her slowly, anxious not to break her concentration. “Anything at all – a clock, a newspaper, a calendar, a phone… Even the weather might give us an idea…”

As Sky wondered about her vision in her mind, it reminded her of a TV show called 'Intelligence' , the main character had a chip in his brain, something like WiFi inside his head. He could recreate a scene digitally, walking about it and researching those in it with the access he had to the internet. Sky however had no chip to help her, no internet to assist her, she only had the kind doctor and this vision to go on. Sky was nervous yet determined to help those people, if she could. She had to at least give this a good try, what did she have to loose?
Sky aimless wondered within the vision in her head. Looking around she took in what she was seeing from the light blue sky and the warmth of the sun on her face to the people milling about the park next to the building. A town clock that read 11:58. A food truck that didn't seem to be selling food. A police officer talking with a resident who had a small dog in her arms. Looking back at the town clock it read 11:59. walking towards the park she sees an elderly man reading a newspaper, she goes to read it to try to see the date and just then the building behind her blew up.
Right at blast, Sky opened her eyes and once more broke down and sobbed into the pillow that was in her lap. Trying to keep herself together she grabbed the doctors notebook without even asking and started to draw again. The detail was amazing. One would now notice that she is drawing with her eyes closed. Once she was done, she opened her eyes to the picture and couldn't believe she drew that. Sky's pleading eyes again looked to the doctor as she pushed the notebook back to him. Sky was in shock at this point, speechless.

Let the Healing Begin Sky collapsed into tears yet again. Nate waited, fully understanding now just how emotional she was, and sure enough she had eventually cried herself once more. She grabbed his notes once more, and Nate could only hope that the piece of paper she had chosen was unimportant because she’d started drawing without warning.
Her eyes were shut as the pen moved across the paper. It reminded Nate a little of the times he had seen Claire work, although the drawing lacked her creative eye and natural, graceful movements, but for what it lacked in creative artistry it made up for in very clear, fine detail. Even from where he was sat, Nate could tell that Sky was producing the images straight from her mind’s eye without any hesitation. After a while her eyes opened up and Sky passed it over to him, saying nothing.
Nate scanned the image.
“Okay, this gives us some clues.”
He looked up at her, wishing the pleading look would fade. It was so hard when it felt like your patient was pinning all their hopes on you. Competent though he was, it didn’t get any easier to be relied upon 100%. Nate could only hope that this session would give Sky at least some sense of agency.
“Noon, right? It seems to be in daylight. Looks a nice day, weather-wise. And this guy reading the newspaper…” He squinted, trying and failing to make out any hint of a date or headline. “It’s perfect, if only we could see what the date on it is. Is that… possible?”
He was still a little amazed that his idea had worked at all – it felt like he was pushing the limits of her power now. Being able to know exactly when her vision took place would be an incredible achievement and hopefully give her the sense of control she was desperately seeking. Still, Nate wasn’t going to place any expectations on her shoulders, just gentle hope.

It had been nearly a year now and over six months in different hospitals that pushed pills and rarely did any real work at trying to solve Sky's problem, they just labeled her schizophrenic. When she got transfered to the Institute today and she met the doctor who talked with her and didn't come at her with medication, there was hope. She spoke for the first time since being hospitalized and she found out that she was not sick but had an ability. While that in of itself was scary and she did not know what to do or how to control this new power of hers, this one doctor with his calming demeanor has helped a young person with her very first steps at taking on and controlling something that she feared and that she wanted no part of just hours ago. While one may see just how fragile she may seem, she is paving the road for herself to being able to accept the very thing that has held her back for the past year. Just a calm reassuring voice of a kind doctor, not pills or being locked up on some ward changed one young ladies life. Now for Sky, the doctor left it open for her to take control not only of what she wanted to do but if she wanted to continue to try to stop people from dying and learning to take control of her visions.
"I'd like to try again" she said softly as she regained some composer and sat as she had done before, looking at the doctor in a way, like 'catch me if I fall'. Yes, trying again did scar Sky, so much so that another cold chill went down her spine. However scared she was, people would most certainly die if she did not try.
Breathing deeply once again she tried to relax, her hands on her knees, she sat there letting all the visions flow inside her head as they always did. With a hardened sigh she started to try to find the vision she was looking for, the one that put her on this road in the first place.
It seemed to take her much longer to find the vision and when she did she tensed up, almost holding her breath. Slowly it became clearer and she would walk around like she once did, trying to find the landmarks she had seen before. One could almost hear her "come on" while she was looking about. She found the lady with the dog in her arms talking to the police officer, she looked for the town clock, knowing she needed the time. This time it was rather unsettling to have a person in your vision walk right through you! It had startled Sky so much she almost lost the vision completely! 'Town clock, have to find the clock' she kept softly whispering to herself as she wondered around in the vision more. Sky didn't know it but she ended up on the other side of the building and it was clearly making it harder to find her landmarks that she had seen before. She looked at the police officer and walked around him, knowing that he was near the clock, walking some more around she would soon find the town clock, it would read 11:58. Dam she thought she did not have much time to find the man with the newspaper.
Looking at Sky on the outside, one could clearly tell she was tense and worried. Sweat would start to sprout from her forehead, her heart beat increased and her breathing was fast and short almost to the point one would be hyperventilating.
Sky finally found the man sitting with the newspaper and ran to him, she try to grab the paper but her hand went right through it. As unsettling as it may would be, she sat down on the man, inside the man? she didn't have time to pounder it, she was looking for a date or something. in the upper right hand corner she sould see the date!
Sky opened her eyes, "I know the date!" she took the notebook and wrote the date down before she forgot it. She handed the notebook back to him and then leaned up against the head board. Sky was drained and exhausted.
The date Sky wrote down, was for the next day!

Let the Healing Begin Nate took his notes back from Sky, quickly scanning the page for the date she’d presumably written on it before collapsing back against the head of her bed. She looked tired which wasn’t too surprising – even without taking into consideration the physical exertion that may be required for her to use her power, all the tears she’d cried were exhausting enough on their own. He caught her eye.
“So this happens tomorrow…” he said, glancing back down at the page in search of more clues.
He was fairly sure he knew where the building was and, fortunately, that meant it was actually in San Francisco rather than on the other side of the world. Once they could prove that Sky could not only tell the future, but also that it could be changed, then he could alert the higher-ups and they could investigate the scene. Maybe the Hero program would need to be involved, or maybe it was a simple case of identifying a potential source of an explosion – be it a fault or the intent of a more deliberate actor.
Nate pulled the coin out once more. “That gives us some time. Time to figure out if we can alter the future and time to contact Dr. Williams. Is that okay, or do you need some rest?”
He passed it between his hands before hiding it behind his back. If she was ready, she could try to predict the outcome with her visions, and then Nate would see if he could change that. If she wasn’t, he could always come back in a few hours. Hopefully they wouldn’t lose too much precious time in preventing the disaster – if they even could.

When the doctor said that the date she wrote was for the next day, she sat bolt upright.
Over these months while in the hospital, Sky lost track of time and dates. Sure she knew it was day or night but had no reason to follow time other then what the hospital prescribed. So not knowing the current day didn't seem like a big deal, until now. If she was seeings in the future she would need to try to keep closer attention to the current date and times.
"What do you mean it's tomorrow? How is that possible?" Sky questioned even though she knew somewhat of that reply would me. There was a bit of silence between them before he had her to do the coin trick again. Sky sighed "Again?" She still did not grasp the concept of this 'game' and why she needed to do it.
Sky would watch him as he took a coin and past it in his hands, then put both hands behind him. Sky didn't have xray vision so she couldn't tell him where or what hand it would be in. However, she did as he asked her to and once more found herself in the Indian position, her hands on her knees and her eyes closed. She tried to relax and she would set about looking for the doctors coin among the number of visions that flooded her head. It felt like a long time had past and still no coin vision. Yet. she did see one of a nurse coming to take her tray of uneaten food.
Opening her eyes she sighed, "I'm sorry, I do not see your coin." Sky told him exhustedly and added "The nurse is coming to take my tray soon." rolling her eyes more of a reaction from being tired then bored "I'm tired." she told him and that she was. One could see her eyes were already half closed.

Let the Healing Begin “That’s the date you’ve written down – tomorrow. It’s okay, don’t panic,” he said gently. “That still gives us a lot of time to figure things out. A little sense of urgency never hurt, right?” he added with a teasing grin.
Her sigh at Nate’s suggestion to try and test her ability once more showed that even now she didn’t understand its purpose. He made a mental note to keep his future instructions for her as simple and easy to follow as possible. It also made him a little concerned for her future and even less sure about informing Dr. Williams about Sky’s ability – if she was confused by a test as simple as that then she could be particularly vulnerable to the kind of exploitation Nate suspected was rife in the higher-security areas of the MNRU. He’d have to keep a close eye on her, maybe get her away from the research unit as quickly as possible.
Hopefully once she felt a sense of control and at least some understanding of her power, Nate could discharge her. She’d probably had enough of being confined to hospital walls, anyway.
At least she tried, adopting a similar position to the one she had used to explore her previous vision. However, with a sigh, she opened her eyes and revealed that she was unable to see that particular future. Nate nodded, thankful that she hadn’t just guessed this time. Then she made a prediction – a different one, but still usable – and Nate sat up straight.
“You saw her in a vision? In this room, at this time, with me present? We can use that!” he said excitedly. Nate jumped to his feet, swiftly locking the door. “If I can prevent that, then we know we can prevent the disaster! Do you see?”
A few moments later, somebody tried to open the door. There was a pause, a sigh of frustration and then a knock and a jangling of keys.
“It’s okay!” Nate said through the door. “It’s me, Dr. Havelock. I’m conducting a private assessment – I’ll take the tray out when I leave, don’t worry.”
There was a pause before he heard a muffled, slightly confused “Okay”, and then the nurse left. He turned back to Sky, triumphant. “Was that it – did I stop the vision?”
Nate gathered his notes. “You can rest now, I’ll talk to my seniors and see what we can do about your vision. Everything’s going to be okay, Sky.” She was so tired now that her eyes were closing of their own accord. “You can rest.” Notes tucked under one arm, he also took the empty tray, true to his word. Now just for the small task of saving people’s lives…
