This page is a comprehensive listing of the inventions Amelia has gotten the 'schematics' for from her power organized by basic function, along with their source and a description if the use is not obvious. In addition to NM designs and a few acquired in backstory, one design is acquired per metahuman (including NPCs) she shares a thread with. Key: - NM- Non-Metahuman, designs gained from a normal object without being around another metahuman, gained every 1-6 months
- CD- Connection Design, designs from metahumans she has interacted with regularly, these tend to not be counters, using the data on the power in other ways.
Medical Psychological
External Memory Storage - From Tanya Dawson , Base design looks like a series of thin plates strapped around the head, but it could easily be integrated into a hat/helmet. The device interfaces with the brain’s memory storage, making an ‘impression’ of the memories and alerting them if it detects a difference from what it has stored. The original version of the memory can then be re-inserted into the mind of the user. Parts
(NM) Universal Power Cell - from Battery Charger, Can store any form of energy in extremely large amounts. Stealth and Subterfuge Undetectability
Heat Signature Disguiser - from Daniel Sampson/Viper (OC/NPC, small-name villain in Boston, was on a plane with Amelia) Tools Construction/EngineeringPlasma Torch - from Eduardo Martinelli (OC/NPC, a custodian at Amelia's employer's office) Ultrasonic Cutter - from Eduardo Martinelli

There are a great many metahumans in San Francisco, and while many people know that, Amelia Herrera could feel it as well, of course she didn’t start getting anything useful unless she was quite close, but it was common for her to momentarily be distracted from her work by metahumans entering her roughly quarter-block radius of detection. Without really thinking much about it Amelia looked up from the sheet metal she had been about to start cutting, though considering she was inside her own workshop she caught herself immediately, returning to her task. It wasn’t really any of her concern right now who happened to be passing by on the street.
Amelia’s cutting tool had been her first creation after gaining her powers (her focus so far had been mostly on trying to get tools to make everything else more efficiently and ignoring designs that had no benefit outside countering one specific power), a retractable scalpel-like blade that looked somewhat like a pen and vibrates at ultrasonic frequencies to cut more easily (she had checked and such technology did exist but unlike what she had made it couldn’t cut metal). The design had come from one of the custodians at her workplace’s company office, she assumed the chipper fifty-something man with a strong italian accent had some sort of object-strengthening power because Amelia had gotten two designs from being around him, both extremely efficient cutting tools, something she could put to immediate use.
Her previous project was a disc-shaped device about the size of her palm that could disguise heat signatures. Unlike the cutting tools, this used a lot of energy, but fortunately she had come upon a solution without meaning to. Though she usually only got new designs from being around metahumans, every once in a while (it could take anywhere from a month to an entire six of them, but usually far closer to the former) her power would seem to get ideas from something else and use all the data it had already to find out how to make it work better, a lamp, a refrigerator, or in this case a battery charger. Amelia’s previous creations of this type, NM (Non-Metahuman) as she labeled them in her notes, were relatively unremarkable, more efficient which was nice for her electrical bill but not substantially different or better. The concept the charger had given broke that formula- it was something she could use in many future inventions, a power cell that could store any single form of energy and be recharged, not to mention having more storage capacity then made sense physically speaking. A lot of Amelia’s designs were like that, she could tell you what it did and how it did it, but there was at least one point when the creation did something it blatantly shouldn’t have been possible and she just had to accept it. There was still so very much to discover and build after all, and she didn’t plan on stalling getting started.

[attr="class","hopelovetitle"]APPEARANCE [attr="class","hopelovetop"][attr="class","hopelovesub"]HAIR // Black[break]EYES //Brown[break]SKIN // Fair[break][break]ATTIRE[break][break]Amelia tends to wear work clothes most of the time- which for her means things that are imminently practical, protect your skin from sparks, and is unlikely to get snagged on anything. She isn’t adverse to or unfamiliar with dressing up- she does it on occasion, she just spends far too much time in workshops for it to usually be feasible. Much of what she wears is stained by grease or covered in burns of both the fire and acidic varieties.[break][break]GENERAL[break][break]Amelia isabout average in height (5’6”), her relatively slim build makes it harder to notice but close inspection would reveal she is quite muscular for her size. Her hair is often a bit of a mess when loose, though she usually keeps it tied back. Her engineering projects, both professional and independent, also mean it’s not rare for her to have oil or grease stains on her skin. [attr="class","hopelovetitle"]PERSONALITY [attr="class","hopelovetop"]Like most people, Amelia’s personality is a complex thing spanning several sorts of things- but if there's one thing it’s fair to say about her it is that she is very curious.[break][break]Amelia is a self-described ‘major geek’, a polymath with an eclectic collection of talents, and a generally good-hearted and empathic person. Above all this though, is that she takes things apart to see how they work- both literally and figuratively, poking around and finding the strengths and weaknesses of devices, plans, beliefs, and mindsets. For her taking something apart is the precursor to making something, finding out what works and what doesn’t. [attr="class","hopelovetitle"]HISTORY [attr="class","hopelovetop"]If you asked her, Amelia (sometimes Amy to friends but she doesn’t have a real preference) had nothing remotely important happen to her in the past. Of course this is not entirely true, but it speaks to the fact that her life before the event was rather ordinary. Born in Los Angeles to a mixed-race (as she puts it ‘a bit of everything’) family, she moved to San Francisco when she was 11, and after flirting with a few potential degrees she ended up becoming an engineer, working at a major local subcontractor.[break][break]Then the Event came and Amelia was one of the over a thousand in the city to gain powers, but it took several months for her to realize what they were. The very nature of Amelia’s ability encourages her to seek out other metahumans, and fortunately for her, the company she worked for (Seraph Electrical Company) is the major technical support provider for much of San Francisco, including the MNRU and the Hero Program offices. Her boss is aware of her abilities (she doesn’t advertise it but doesn’t hide it- anyone looking at her records could find out easily) and tries to get her in jobs at these places when possible, both out of friendliness and because she’s very motivated at jobs in those locations. [attr="class","hopelovetitle"]POWER [attr="class","hopelovetop"][attr="class","hopelovesub"]Counter-Engineering[break][break]Amelia’s power is a complex one but it boils down to her mind subconsciously scanning things around her- especially metahumans, and creating designs for advanced technology based on the data it collects, starting with technology to counter that metahuman’s powers.[break][break]Though she may get enough information from ordinary people or objects to make a simple design every month or so, around a metahuman her power quickly can draw up something (this gives the additional minor ability to identify metahumans and be able to take an educated guess on their powers). These designs can be materials or chemicals but they are most commonly machinery, and they are designed to bypass/defend from/nullify/negate the advantage of the powers of the specific person the design came from being around. In the process of building these technologies the substances involved are usually somewhat altered, allowing capabilities beyond normal technology. Amelia is unaware of this but her power isn’t limited to countering a power, it merely prioritizes it, so if she spent long enough habitually interacting with another metahuman she would start getting designs based on the mechanisms of their ability, perhaps replicating it’s effects or perhaps doing something entirely different but based on the same principles as the physical mechanisms behind the power.[break][break] LIMITS[break][break]Amelia can feel the presence of metahumans within about 80 feet of her, but only the direction and not the exact location, and she only starts getting designs from them after spending at least 10 minutes within 30 feet of them, preferably longer. Even simple designs can take hours to make, and some (though not many) may require rare or unusual materials/parts. Each device will have it’s own limitations and weak points also.[break][break]WEAKNESSES[break][break]First, while some devices might be able to completely nullify the advantage of a power, many will only reduce it. Her power also not only produces nothing but gives Amelia a headache around wildcard-type powers. Besides these more minor factors there are three major weaknesses to her counter-engineering. First is that while her simplest designs can be reverse-engineered, most are specifically altered by her powers in the building process and can only be made by her, though others are usually able to perform basic maintenance on them. Second, while she’s near guaranteed to get something effective at countering a specific power, it’s hit-or-miss if the device will be useful for anything other than that, often they are and often they aren’t. Finally, Amelia’s power gives her designs, she still has to build them herself which requires time, access to tools, and materials, thus even if meeting somebody gives a great way to counter their powers she can’t use it unless she encounters them a second time after making the thing.[break][break] [attr="class","hopelovebot1"]PLAYED BY Kileskus [attr="class","hopelovebot2"] Jessica Henwick as Amelia Herrera PHARAOH LEAP.
