The state of Mia was something which struck her owner as being a bit odd. Usually the crossbreed was unflappable. He hadn't seen her this worked up since she'd been a pup. He attributed it to the late hour and the fact that the big city was still a rather strange place for the former country dog.
Quinton raised an eyebrow. Whilst in many respects he was a simple man but by no means a stupid one, he was still able to pick up that there was something not quite right about the young woman he was faced with. She was brave to approach him in such a manner. Whilst his words and attitude were fairly innocuous, he wasn't without knowing that there were many people out there who would play such a part in the hopes that it caused her to drop her guard. Either she was naïve or able to handle herself. The meta was sure not to give her a reason to resort to the latter. He waited patiently whilst she keyed something into her phone, assuming that it was intended for him as opposed to being a text to one of her friends.
He would accept the phone, reading the screen. "Oh... Right." His voice trailed off, he almost apologized but held off. No doubt she received enough sympathy for strangers for her disability. She didn't need another person expressing his regret for her. "Don't worry about it. Mia's harmless but she can be a little too friendly. She'll get over it." He patted the dog's flank, doing his best to console the creature. "Hope you don't mind me asking, Mrs. but are you alright? It's kind of late..." He phrased things as delicately as possible, reluctant to sound like a concerned and condescending parent.

Quinton knew better than to start diving into family matters with someone he didn't know. He took her explanation to be that Tanya Dawson didn't necessarily have the happiest of childhoods in that particular regard. The young man only shook his head in response. His family were none the wiser as to just what had driven him away. A need to spread his wings and see the world, gaining some independence along the way was what he assumed they presumed had driven him to leave the way that he did. Perhaps, if his character was different then they might have had some suspected something fishy but given his easy nature, they'd believed his explanations. Quinton smiled thoughtfully at the other Meta's words. "Yeesh. Can't imagine what it would have been like for you. Just thinking about my brothers and sisters with powers-" He gave an exaggerated shudder for effect. "Nightmare." He became a little bit more serious as he reflected upon some of the implications. "Still, must be nice to have someone you can talk about it with." "Figured it would be safer..." His voice trailed off momentarily before something occurred to him. "For them." He was quick to clarify. "Least they know about all this, the better." Not everyone in the world they lived in was good.

She said a few words and he felt as if he could suddenly understand a little bit more about her. A couple of sentences lead him to believe that the young woman had known a few hard times herself. The young man's eyes softened briefly as he felt some true sympathy for the Tanya Dawson. He wasn't entirely naive. He knew that not everybody in the world had been blessed with the same loving and understanding household that he had been born into. Even back in his hometown, he'd heard of everything from constant bickering over what seemed like trivial things to rumors concerning some rather more serious affairs. "I guess I was just lucky." Quinton didn't know enough about Tanya to be able to even contemplate giving her any advice on that particular front. It did bring the subject towards something which did interest him a fair deal and that he'd been wondering about since first meeting her this morning. "Do your family... You know-" He lowered his voice slightly as he spoke. "Know?" It was one of his single greatest regrets: that he hadn't been able to bring himself to tell his family what had happened to him, what he was now. Was it for their sake or his own? Another question he was afraid to have answered.

Mia was friendly and had never really been hurt by a human being. Her tail wagged excitedly right up until she was grabbed. She let out a slight yelp. The dog struggled. Her natural placidness mixed with panic meant that her first instinct was to get away before she tried to bite. She was quite close to do doing so when she was finally released. It didn't take anything else for the crossbreed to charge back to her owner, abandoning her stick as she did so.
The young man didn't quite see what happened. His night vision wasn't half as good as his pet and he couldn't quite make out just what had happened. So he guessed. He hadn't seen the woman sleeping, otherwise he most certainly wouldn't have thrown the stick in that direction. As soon as he saw that the woman was awake, he was quick to clip Mia back onto a leash. He gave her a few reassuring pats, taking note of his companion's tail tucked between her legs as she faced towards the stranger. He assumed that his dog must have been startled. Much like him, she was more accustomed to a rural and quiet lifestyle. Strangers especially in a large numbers of which there were plenty in the city, weren't something that she was used to coming across routinely.
Quinton was what could best be described as optimistically naive.
In his hometown, there weren't half the dangers and uncertainties that the big city came to offer. Sure, he was aware that there were troublemakers and individuals whose intentions were anything but noble but he didn't quite know how to identify any of them. The young man saw the stranger, sized her up momentarily and deemed that she wasn't much of a risk. Unless she were to pull out a cleaver and begin chasing him through the park, he was confident that she could overpower her quite easily.
It didn't even cross his mind that the woman could have been a meta.
"Sorry, didn't see you there!" He called out to her, in the hopes that he might be able to apologize. Mia was good-natured but decidedly excitable and the poor thing spent far too long cooped up. In the hopes of lightening the mood, he smiled. "She didn't get any drool on you, did she?"

Holding his cup of coffee in his hands, the man listened carefully to Tanya's words. A year and a half ago made about sense. As far as he could tell, that would have matched the strange event. No doubt they'd both suffered from the same exposure to... Whatever it was. It seemed to have affected quite a number of people across the planet. "I think that's the same for most of us. I was out in the middle of nowhere and I guess it took me a while to really notice." His power was, in many respects, decidedly discreet if he was cautious, he likely wouldn't ever notice it being active. He paused for a moment, wondering if she'd picked up his memories and his motivations or if she viewed everything as if it were a slideshow of sorts. "I left home to try and find answers and others like me. Nobody else in my family seemed to have changed so I figured I'd have to go looking in the cities. You're the first I've ever met."He could only imagine how frustrating things could have been for the young woman if the slightest touch would trigger her powers. He struggled enough with his own. Small nicks were only a minor nuisance as they vanished so quickly that nobody had time to notice, it was more of a pain when they were noticed by others. Out of the corner of his eye, he watched as the girl pet Mia just to ensure that for whatever reason, the dog wasn't taking a dislike to her. "And well my folks, they've got their hands full with my brothers and sisters, I can't ask them to start funding my road trip. I've done some farm work, you know around harvest time, they always need more hands but there isn't much of that going around in the cities." The man answered with a shrug, taking the cup in his hands and holding it there for the warmth. "I went to agricultural college so there's only so much that I can really do. If there was anything like a fast food joint, I'd take it. So long as it pays the rent, you know?" He wasn't a particularly picky sort in that regard. Tanya Dawson

Quinton was shattered. Whilst his body certainly regenerated and he might not feel the strain as acutely as some, he still required some rest. Mia however wasn't quite so picky. With her owner out of the house more often than he was in, she was keen to take advantage of every second that she had with him, especially when it meant that she was allowed a walk in the park.
Truth be told, her owner didn't much mind it either. It was better than being cooped up inside of the tiny four walls of his dingy damp little apartment. These parks were as close as he was going to get to the big wide open spaces he was accustomed to. At least, the man took some comfort in the fact that it didn't ever seem to get terribly chilly around this part of the country. One hand in his pocket and the other holding onto his leash, he walked behind the dog, relatively relaxed. Unlike some, he didn't particularly need to worry about getting mugged, not in the long run at any rate.
"Come here girl..." With the park relatively empty, he deemed that it was safe enough for him to allow her off of her leash. The retriever/shepherd mix wagged her tail but stayed nearby for a few moments, eyeing him expectantly. The young man smiled, retrieving an old tennis ball many times chewed from his pocket. "You want it?" He giggled the item around in front of her face for a few moments. The canine barked once excitedly, her tail wagging as she readied herself. Pulling his arm back, Quinton tossed the ball as far as he could watching as his dog charged after it. "Fetch!"
The instruction wasn't entirely required. The dog knew nothing else other than to chase after a ball and rush back with it so that it might be thrown once more. Her owner didn't know exactly how long he would be able to toss the ball for before she finally grew tired of it, if she ever would. Quinton walked along the path, pausing only when Mia brought the ball back to him so as to throw it once more. The stranger sleeping in the corner was something which he noticed but didn't pay a good deal of attention to. True, it had been a bit of a shock for a small town boy to come across but after a few months, he'd gradually grown somewhat accustomed to the unfortunate sight.
His mind was elsewhere, dreaming about the past, recent events and the future which seemed terribly uncertain to him. He was still alive and so far, was able to find enough work to ensure that both he and his dog stayed fed whilst also paying rent. How long that would last, he couldn't say for sure. He'd work it all out, that was what he told himself.
Tossing the ball once more without paying much attention, he didn't notice it roll underneath the bench where the unknown woman was sleeping whilst Mia inevitably gave chase.

Quinton was the sort to not particularly care how much of his life Tanya had picked up. He had little to no secrets that he felt needed protecting. If anything, he imagined that it must have been more of a bother for her than anything else. The young man considered the other meta in silence for a moment. "Well, I guess that must be a relief." He shrugged when it came to intruding on his privacy. "I don't mind you know. I've only got the one secret and seeing as you know it, well... You've probably seen enough to know that I'm not the type of guy to have skeletons in my closet." Perhaps it was different where others were concerned he reasoned. It was a power that he was rather glad that he didn't have. The prospect of doing something normal earned a smile and he was only too keen to follow. He allowed Tanya to lead. Whilst he'd spent some time on the campus, he couldn't hope to compare that to her knowledge of the layout. He kept a hand on Mia's leash. "How long you been going here?" He couldn't help but ask, as it occurred to him that he knew precious little about his companion. Tanya's warning struck him as a little bit odd. True to form, Quinton nodded obligingly taking her words to heart. The notion of anyone becoming possessive or territorial over a coffee shop was alien to him. Perhaps, it was a small place at at times there wasn't quite enough space for everyone? He entered cautiously. In his mind, he half expected it to be like entering a saloon in the Old West. Thankfully, there were no cowboys found within. Just individuals whom he assumed to be other students here. It was the laptops at tables that struck him as being the most unusual. He'd seen quite a bit of that around the city but in his home town, it was far more uncommon, people tended to go to the bar to escape work, not bring it with them. In the presence of doubt, smile and wave but not like the Queen of the United Kingdom like a normal guy. He could still be normal, right?
He would settle on down, doing his best to keep a relatively low profile. Mia sat on the floor next to him, content to be out and about. The cross watched content, her tail wagging a few times whenever she felt that Quinton was paying her some attention. He would offer Tanya a smile when she approached him with the coffees. For a moment, he wondered just how it was that she could have got his favorite drink before it suddenly occurred to him. "Thanks. It's my favorite but already you knew that." Something that she had just said caused him to raise an eyebrow. "Are you stuck with all that up there?" He asked keeping his voice rather quiet so as to avoid drawing any unwanted attention to themselves, trying to keep everything looking and sounding natural. Tanya Dawson

It was with an amused smile that Quinton dismissed her concerns. He raised a hand to signal that everything was perfectly fine. She didn't have to worry. "It's fine. Honestly I was a little late myself..." It had taken a little bit longer than he'd expected to pick up Mia. No real reason other than he'd forgotten just how long it had taken him to make the walk. "Just glad I caught you."
He was acutely aware that he might not get another chance to speak with another metahuman who seemed to be so friendly and willing to discuss matters openly.
"This is Mia." He replied glancing down briefly at the animal. "Came with me from the farm, didn't you girl? It's alright, she's friendly."
Should Tanya try to get close or pat the dog, she would find that the only threat posed was that of a lashing tail which wagged rapidly as soon as there was even the faintest prospect of getting some fuss and attention. Her owner was similarly relaxed about anyone who wanted to approach her in order to give her a pat.
Something did confuse him however about the girl's statement, causing him to raise an eyebrow. "I didn't think I had to... Since you - you know-" He feared even saying it out loud in case someone overheard them. A knowing raise of the eyebrows was all he offered to clue her in to what he was referring to. "Figured you knew pretty much everything about me."
The suggestion wasn't entirely what he'd been expecting and for a moment, the prospect struck him as being rather strange. So much so that it took him a little while to respond. "Yeah. That sounds nice..." He paused for a few moments before chuckling briefly. "I'm sorry. It's just it's been quite a long time since I did something... "normal" I guess." He couldn't remember the last time that he'd gone for a drink with someone, anyone be they a girl or a boy for whatever reason. Since embarking on his quest, such things had seemed ironically far fetched.

Quinton was an optimist by nature. When Tanya failed to show up. He didn't assume that she had dumped him and decided not to carry through with the meeting. Instead, he reasoned that something must have come up. As soon as they'd called an end to the construction, Quinton had rushed back to his apartment. He'd picked up Mia, the dog having already spent far too much time cooped up for her own good. He'd slipped a leash onto the dog's neck and then rushed back here as quickly as he possibly could (with necessary stops to allow the animal to do her business). He'd found the place where he had said goodbye to the other meta and settled down to wait and wait. Despite his natural tendency to look on the bright side of life and assume the best, by the half hour mark, there were a few doubts beginning to form in his mind. A few doubts were beginning to form inside of his mind. Chiefly, he found himself wondering if he might not have actually have been sold out. He looked around nervously but continued to find himself focusing on students as they came and went. Everyone seemed relatively relaxed. So he sat down upon a bench and waited. He would leave her another few minutes after their appointed meeting time, after that... Well, he couldn't wait here forever. The time came and went. With a heavy sigh, he lowered his head and pushed himself up from the bench. He didn't know why she hadn't shown up. Maybe something had stopped her or she'd gotten cold feet. He would have been lying if he claimed not to be disappointed about the fact. He'd made it a few yards before Mia stopped him, barking as something or someone had drawn her attention. A smile made its way onto his face as he recognized the individual, making quick work of rejoining Tanya. "You had me starting to worry!" He called out, his tone light so as to make it clear that he was joking. Tanya Dawson

Quinton sometimes wondered about education, specifically his own. He'd been quite keen to leave high school, go to agricultural college and then take over the farm. It was a good life for him. Outside and free. From what little he'd seen and heard around this campus, he wasn't sure that he possessed the patience or dedication to go through with such a length process as getting a degree, although he most certainly could respect those who did dedicate themselves to such studies. He wasn't a snob in that regard. "Well, you're braver than me." The young man noted with a certain amount of humor, not teasing but sympathetic.
It sounded as if she wanted to spend a little while longer with him. That gave the man some hope. So far, throughout his somewhat aimless wandering, he was yet to get so good a lead as Tamya where metas were concerned. It was comforting to know that she wasn't part of some organisation.
"Sure. No problems." Quinton didn't say it but he didn't exactly have anything much better to do. In the strange city, he had no friends. He'd be going back to his car to take his dog for a walk over lunch. Even if she'd been finishing at seven, he would likely have made the effort to hang around for a while. This was his first contact with another meta and he most definitely wasn't about to squander the opportunity to get to know her a little bit more.

Quinton merely shrugged at the notion that others wouldn't consider him to be harmless.
It wasn't that he'd gone through his life without encountering any real hardships but he had never before found himself afraid for his safety. His hometown had offered such a safety net that he'd never felt threatened before. It was only after he'd developed his power that a few concerns had first started to trouble him. His coping mechanism was one of relative optimism: things could be better, more certain but they could equally worse. "It'll all work out eventually." He declared with clear confidence marking his every word.
"Me? Probably about five. Assuming everything goes according to plan." Generally, if asked the question, he would have refrained from giving an exact time. On more than a single occasion, he'd found his employer to be very much driven by a set amount of work to be finished within the day. If it wasn't and they happened to have reached the end of their shifts, it wasn't unheard of them for them to be asked/told to stay on a little bit longer to ensure that what they had scheduled in was completed. Quinton wasn't the type to complain. It would take a good deal before he became exasperated or walked off. "I'm guessing you've got plenty of classes." He didn't know that of course but every film he'd ever seen set in a college had the students either sitting in a lecture or working their read end off in a library somewhere.
Metahuman with a super memory - that was how Quinton would think of such things - or not, he got the distinct impression from this relatively brief exchange that Tanya was a good student.

He could only take her word for it. "Makes sense I guess. If anywhere was going to be more open..." He didn't quite feel like opening up about some of his doubts he had regarding even those from his hometown. His family would have been able to cope with the revelation but he was quite sure that his new status would have been met with some raised eyebrows and cautiousness regarding his powers. "I suppose mine are pretty harmless though." That being said, his concerns were more directed towards just what might happen if someone decided that they wanted a peace of his regenerative powers.
"Yeah... Well-" His voice trailed off momentarily as his gaze ran over the campus which seemed so very alien to him. "-I went to an agricultural school and they don't have much use for a guy who can tell em' how best to plant wheat around here. I've still got to eat." It wasn't just him of course, he happened to have a canine companion who also required nourishment, then there was gas, clothes... Life was expensive, shockingly so in the city. "I'll take whatever comes my way. I've just got to be careful." For the time being, he'd only ever received an occasional nick here or there or a couple of bruises, here or there. Nothing which anyone had noticed, much less cared about.
"It suits them well enough if I don't get hurt, so it's not like they're going to look for anything." If anything, he was more comfortable working in such an environment where injuries, minor and severe were common as opposed to an office, where it would almost have been noticed and people would have made a bigger deal of it. That and he knew in his heart of hearts that he would have gone insane if he found himself confined to four boring walls and a computer screen.

Quinton followed obligingly, his hands in his pockets and a rather relaxed demeanor as they walked along. He was grateful to find themselves back in the sunshine. It could get plenty cold back home but it didn't mean that he necessarily appreciated the chill of winter or autumn. He listened carefully to her concerns, unable to relate to some on account of the fact that he wasn't a student but others rung very much true to him.
"Yeah... Guess I figured that those clouds wouldn't reach us in old Okie." It seemed like a naive thought, he knew that now. "I wonder how many of us there are."
He smiled at the use of the term "farm boy" but didn't object to it. He'd had far worse since leaving his rural home in order to travel through some of the cities. He was willing to admit that this wasn't where he was most comfortable, perhaps he would grow used to it but he was terribly homesick as he thought about the golden fields of wheat and his brothers and sisters he'd been forced to leave behind. "I'd like to go back to it one day..." He didn't know if she was aware of that simply through his memories. Did she pick up solely on the events, viewing them as a spectator or was her experience a good deal more immersive? That was enough to cause the man to pause, unwilling to go over things that she already knew.
"It does." He answered her question. "As far as I can tell it happens as soon as I get hurt. I mean... I'm grateful. I'd probably be dead or at least in hospital, without it but I'm scared of getting hurt in front of someone. I mean... I know that some people don't like metas..." He left it at that. He was afraid, fearing what might happen if someone got it in their heads that they would find a way to work out out to exploit his gift. He would rather steer clear of the media for that very reason.

Quinton raised his eyebrows, smiling at the mention of a famous name. He'd done a fair amount of research on all things metahuman before leaving his home and more since so. He was impressed that his new acquaintance had met such a famous individual. Her words intrigued him as he found himself imagining what it must have been like to have siblings with powers. "Is it genetic then?" He assumed, probably naively that Tanya would know far more about this than he did. He would have struggled to explain his rational other than the fact that he was desperate to discover whatever he could about what had happened to him and others like him. Nobody else in his family had been affected, at least as far as he was aware. They could have been keeping it secret from him, just as he had from them but the man doubted it.
He listened to her explain some of her powers to him. Yeesh... At some point in the past, Quinton had found himself regretting his abilities - although granted healing from injuries was inevitably better than succumbing to them. It separated him from others, made parts of his life more challenging. If he got so much as a paper cut, he was forced to conceal the injury out of fear of someone noticing it healing up. Ironically, for a man who at this point in time believed that he couldn't be killed, he was rather paranoid about getting hurt.
"Well... There's nothing up here I'm particularly embarrassed about." He responded pointing to his right temple. All the same, it was something of a relief to know that she couldn't read all of his thoughts. It must have been unpleasant for her to be able to pick up on everything from a mere touch. Presumably she'd found some sort of a way to cope with her affliction. "Didn't get too bored, did you?" He joked, doing his best to try and make light of the current situation so as to lighten the atmosphere even just a little bit.
He grimaced a little at the thought, not entirely accustomed to such open declarations such as the one she had expressed about certain fantasies. Oh, he could imagine just what exactly he meant, it was the fact that she'd mentioned it to begin with which surprised Quinton. He smiled, unsure how else to respond. "Do you think you'll be able to train yourself?" If she could, then maybe he could. If he could stop himself from healing up then maybe he could go back to something of a regular life and pretend that none of this had ever happened.

The metahuman could breathe a little more easily. Despite the initial few moments of hostility, he got the feeling that things were relaxing a little bit more now. He wasn't a threat to her, so long as she wasn't going to put him in any danger and something told him that she wasn't, at least not right now. "You ever met another?" He couldn't help but ask, curious at just how relatively unperturbed she seemed to be by the fact that he was like her.
His breathing was a little faster than usual as he found himself excited. All this searching and now he didn't really know what to say. "It's fine." He dismissed the matter amicably with a single wave of his hand. "I can't control it either." Tanya would find Quinton to be extremely understanding and patient in that respect. Perhaps if he had better control over his ability, then he wouldn't have set out on this peculiar quest of his.
Quinton nodded in agreement. Whilst meeting another metahuman was most certainly a huge development, he equally couldn't afford to lose his chance to earn some money. He still had some left but it was beginning to run a little low, especially when it came to feeding himself and his canine companion. He hadn't worked for this specific company before, but he knew bosses well-enough to be quite certain that if he was late, he would be fired or at the very least have his pay docked. The man followed her obligingly, not even questioning if he was safe with her.
"Yeah..." He looked at his own hands for a few moments before quickly tucking them back into the pockets of his trousers. "Don't really understand it but no matter what happens, I get better. I've been cut, burned, broken bones... Sometimes it takes a little while but I get better. Then it's like I'm as good as new."
He peered at the young woman for a moment. "What about you? You telepathic or something?" He reasoned that it must have been something along those lines given that she already seemed to know everything about him without him having provided any of the information or it being accessible.
