Is it weird that she was excited for math? Kind of. She didn’t enjoy the subject, she didn’t enjoy most school subjects, but she loved meeting her classmates. School isn’t a place to learn about geometry and history. It’s a social playground, with all types of people to meet, all sorts of people to learn from. She never saw school as boring. How could it be with all these friends to make? Sure, she would be polite and listen to the teacher, and by listen she means zoning out while they talk over her. But with her new powers, she wouldn’t be disrupting the teacher’s attention if she could completely divert it away from her while she, perhaps, talked to someone. Socialized. She made sure before she came to class that she had some brightly colored pastel smudges on her cheek from her latest artistic excursion. She wanted to make the right first impression on anyone she met.
When she got to her class, she found most of the desks occupied, so she was relegated to seat at the back of the room. Despite this setback, she remained optimistic. No turning around to talk to someone, no three-sixty discussions, but she still had the other one hundred eighty degrees, and she had a loud enough voice that she could still shout out witty responses to the teacher if she wanted to. At least she didn’t get a corner seat.
Tapping her hands excitedly on the desks, she watched as a student came in late and sat in the desk next to her. She notice her recieve a look from the teacher. Did she have a reputation, or was the teacher simply a dickhead? She hoped it was the former, that would be exciting. Although the more she watched her, the less that seemed like a possibility She seemed self-conscious, apologetic. In other words, in need of some comfort. In need of a friend.
Kenzi, thanking her parent’s extraverted genetics for giving her a miniscule to nonexistent personal bubble as the girl accidently somewhat invaded her space, turned towards her and smiled. ”Hey, nice to meet ya.” She greeted warmly, offering a hand. ”I’m Kenzi, it’s my first day here.” She didn’t bother to put up any attention diversion around them. Class had just start and she doubted the teacher was ready to give the lesson yet. Plus, it always gave her a headache to control someone’s attention that much. She could handle it, she just didn’t prefer it.

Kenzi’s ever-present smile somehow grew larger. She liked her new roommate. Like, really really like her. As far as first impressions go, this was goddamn fantastic.
”Oh god, I bet it’s gonna be something weird like Fig Tree or something.” She responded to Flick’s challenge, bouncing down on her bed, sending a splash of glitter flying everywhere. ”Felicia!” She shot out enthusiastically. ”Oh god, that would suck. I bet you’d get the ‘bye Felicia’ thing all the time, wouldn’t you?” She cringed in preemptive sympathy. ”I hope your name isn’t Felicia. Sorry if your name’s Felicia.” She said.
She grinned again when Flick mentioned the state of the room. ”Oh god, you should see my room back at home. It’s covered in glitter and paint and pastels and all kinds of shit. It’s just a whole rainbow of colors in there. In fact, the mess in my room was how I came out to my parents! Not really, I was one of the blessed few that new I was gay the moment I came out the womb and my parents never really gave a shit. Like, they didn’t give a shit in a supportive way, you know what I mean?”
"And I'm glad you don't mind glitter, cause I used a lot of it. Like a lot of it." She added.
Kenzi’s eyes widened in awe as she watched the metal objects move on their own. Metahumans had been around for about a year now, but they never failed to amaze her. She let out three very impressed claps after Flick’s demonstration. ”You invent things? That’s so cool. You gotta show me your inventions sometime and I’ll show you my artwork. We can show off to each other.” She grinned. ”And I think Ginger Magneto is a great Hero name, you should keep it.”
”Oh, right!” She exclaimed at Flick’s comment about the heat. She’d forgotten about the temperature. She quickly ran up to the thermostat and lowered to a comfortable temperature, releasing any hold she had on Flick’s attention concerning the thermostat. ”That spider is super cool by the way.” She jumped back onto the bed, again sending all the glitter bouncing up into the air. ”Alright, my power.” She grinned, excited. She pressed her lips together and held up her index finger ”A demonstration.” She said. ”Watch my finger very carefully. Be sure you’re paying attention. Are you looking...are you looking...are you looking…” She repeated over and over again using her power to draw all her attention towards her voice as she slowly traded her index finger for her middle one. “Are you sure you’re looking?” She asked, releasing her hold on her attention, a huge grin spread across her face. ”Attention manipulation baby!” She proclaimed excitedly waving her middle finger around, her booming laugh emanating from her lips. If things went the way she thought they did, Flick shouldn’t have noticed her switching her fingers even though she was looking right at them, her voice would’ve completely captured her attention.

Just as she was making the final touches on her bed, now strewn with brightly colored blankets and an assortment of stuffed animals, she heard the door push open. She snapped her head towards to doorway just in time to see her drop her duffle bag on the ground. Her roommate. Her heart pounded in excitement. She loved meeting new people, but this would be more than just a potential friend. She’d be sharing a room with her, a home. She’d practically be family. Her roommate made a sheepish response to her minor mistake. She must be nervous, shy. Kenzi would remedy that.
Kenzi, as a requisite for the prankster vocation, had become the master of the straight face, but even she had to press her lips together when her new roommate made a comment about the heat. She’d been too excited to be bothered by it. If anything, it had fueled her anticipation. It took everything in her power to keep from snickering as she reached for the switch.
Now was the moment of truth. How would she react? Amusement? Anger? Bewilderment? Shock? Kenzi watched in anticipation as the cascade glitter covered the room. Her silence, bewilderment, quickly turned into amusement, glee, the best possible reaction. Kenzi laughed with her, a booming, joyous laugh that absolutely filled the room, and walked up to? Flick. ”Hi Flick! Name’s Kenzi, like MacKenzie but without the ‘Mac’ or the ‘E’ at the end. It’s not a nickname for MacKenzie or anything, it’s just my name. Is Flick a nickname? Seems like a nickname, but you never know.” She twirled around, arms open, grinning up at the glitter still falling from the ceiling, some of it landed on her teeth but she didn’t care. ”Like what I did with the room? Glitter’s my superpower. Not really, but it might as well be.” She stopped her twirling and simply looked around the room, admiring her handiwork as her hair slowly became caked with glitter. ”This stuff is never gonna come out of the room, not completely. I’m an expert at cleaning glitter, but even I can’t ever get it cleaned up entirely, there’ll always be little remnants just hanging around, stuck in the carpet or just hanging out on the windowsill.” She turned back toward Flick. ”That’s why I thought it’d be a great first-meeting prank. It’ll always be here to commemorate the first time we met.” She shrugged. ”Not to get too sappy or anything, but I thought it’d be cool.”
”What is your superpower?” She asked, practically wiggly with excitement, enthusiastic to know, but at the same time trying to set her up with a ‘My power’s blank, what’s yours?’ She had what she thought was a brilliant response that she’d been dying to show off.

Kenzi opened the door to her dorm room and quickly looked around. Beds empty, no luggage in sight. She grinned, perfect. She’d arrived first, just as she planned. She quickly threw her luggage on on the bed and unzipped one of her suitcases, revealing a giant bag of rainbow glitter. Her grin widened. She took it out and cautiously opened one corner of the bag, careful not to spill any. She had much experience with glitter, she knew how to handle it. She walked over to the ceiling fan in the middle of the room and looked up, realizing something she probably should have realized a while ago. She pressed her lips together. Sometimes she forgets how short she is. Alright, maybe more than sometimes.
This obstacle wasn’t going to hinder her though, not by a long shot. She carefully set the bag of glitter against the bed so it wouldn’t spill and grabbed one of her suitcases and placed in underneath the fan. She stood on top of it. Stretching out as far as she could, her hands barely reached the blade. She huffed and grabbed her other suitcase and put in on top of the other one. She climbed on top. Now she could put her palms flat on the blade with little effort, but it still wasn’t quite high enough. She hopped down and grabbed the two pillows that were on her bed and placed them on top of the suitcases. She precariously made her way to the top of the pile, and while her balance was unstable, her head was finally high enough that, if she stood on her tip-toes, she could see the top on the fan blades. ”Perfect.” She grinned. While it was far from perfect, Kenzi liked to look on the bright side of things.
She jumped down from the pile, making a bit of a thud as she did, and grabbed the bag of glitter. Very, very carefully, she climbed back on top. She made sure to steady her feet before she reached out for the closest fan blade and began meticulously dumping a thick line of glitter down the blade. Once that blade was sufficiently covered, she ducked her head slightly so she could slowly and painstakingly turn the fan to get to the next blade, moving it ever so carefully as not to spill any of the glitter, and covered the next fan blade, same as the last one. She repeated this process until every blade was covered and the bag was mostly empty.
She twisted the bag close and jumped down from the pile of luggage and pillows, then walked around the room, making sure the glitter couldn’t be seen from any angle. Satisfied, she put the pillows and luggage back on her bed, zipping the glitter back in her suitcase. She then went over to the thermostat and turned it up to seventy-nine degrees, enough to be uncomfortably hot, but not enough to be immediately noticeable, then quickly went back over the her bed and arranged the luggage so it looked natural, like she’d just gotten there, one suitcase zipped up and leaning against the bed (the one with the glitter in it), and the one with all the blankets and stuffed animals in it laying on the ground open, and began putting her blankets on the bed. She made sure to keep the thermostat in mind, ready to divert the thermostat away from the attention of her roommate when she came in.
A huge grin was spread across Kenzi’s face as she made her bed. She couldn’t wait to meet her new roommate, and furthermore, she couldn’t wait to make her first impression.

HAIR // dark brown[break] EYES // dark brown[break] SKIN // brown[break][break]
ATTIRE[break][break] Kenzi has a very colorful personality, and this is very much reflected in her clothing. She wears a lot of bright colors and is particularly fond of glitter and sparkles, so much so that she DIYs her own sparkly clothing (this usually doesn’t turn out well, but it doesn’t stop her from wearing them). She likes tank tops and t-shirts, and she’ll usually wear a stylish but muted jacket over them to balance out the bright colors and the glitter. She likes loose shorts and pants with lots of pockets to hide all her stolen goods, and especially likes to wear bell bottoms, just for the hell of it.
[break][break]
GENERAL[break][break] At just over five feet, Kenzi is very short, although her personality makes her seem much larger. She has large brown eyes that always seem to have a mischievous glint to them, and a huge, warm, welcoming smile that she always wears on her face. She has a very large nose, which she is quite proud of, and medium-length, brown hair with tight waves that more often than not is a knotted mess splattered with paint. She is, in fact, often covered with smears of charcoal, chalk and/or paint, if not unintentionally then intentionally to let the world know that she is an artist.
[attr="class","hopelovetitle"]PERSONALITY [attr="class","hopelovetop"] Kenzi doesn’t care what people think of her, or at least, she cares that people believe that she doesn’t care what people think of her. She’s eccentric! She’d wild! She’s a free spirit! She’s adventurous! She does what she wants, she says what she wants. And while all of this is true, she really, really, really wants people to notice. And they do. She’s a loud person, not just in voice, but in character. She exudes an aura of confidence and charisma wherever she goes. She’s quick to make friends, and she makes a lot of them. She often manages to make very deep connections that last for a very long time. While she certainly wants people to notice how eccentric she is, she never puts on a facade. She was taught from a very young age above all things to be true to herself, so she is. She shows herself to everyone, and while some may find her annoying, she can be incredibly down to earth and empathic, another skill her parents taught her, and makes true connections with people very easily. She’s very kind and very caring and if she sees someone struggling she will genuinely attempt to help. [break][break] Despite her caring nature, Kenzi has a mischievous streak a mile wide. She likes breaking the rules but in small ways, harmless ways, just to be rebellious. She loves playing tricks on people. She’s always had a penchant for pranks. Bewear Kenzi around the first of April, because she will find you, and she will prank you. She always saves her best pranks for April first, but that doesn’t mean she avoids doing so all year round. This mischievous behaviour has only increased exponentially since Kenzi discovered her powers. She’s taken to pickpocketing, although she (usually) gives her stolen goods back. She just likes to prove she can do it. She likes redirecting people’s attention, switching something around in their environment, and seeing how long it takes them to notice. She’s particularly fond of placing things on people’s heads and seeing how long they’ll wear it around before they notice and take it off. She’s also taken to performing magic tricks which, seeing as magic is all about misdirection, has been incredibly easy for her to master. [break][break] Kenzi’s true passion, however, is not pranking or pickpocketing or magic tricks, but art. Kenzi wants to be an artist, and she’s very good at it. She as an affinity for every medium, but she especially loves chalk pastel. She loves the color and the free-form nature of it. She especially loves the mess, how it gets everywhere, especially on her clothes. She considers that part of the art itself. While she can make figurative art, and she can make it very well, she prefers to stick to the abstract. She takes the advice of her siblings when it comes to art; it’s about capturing a mood a feeling a story. Over the years, and with her siblings’ direction, she’s become quite the master of this, although her unconventional artwork may be a turn-off for some people. And while she acts like it doesn’t affect her, rejection hurts, and it hurts a lot.
[attr="class","hopelovetitle"]HISTORY [attr="class","hopelovetop"] Kenzi’s parents, united in their forward-thinking, atheistic, liberal ways left their friends and family behind and immigrated to the United States from the middle east when they were in their early twenties. Where in the middle east? They would never say. They had a line that they would tell their children, that they instilled in them when they were young: “You are not your ancestors, you are not your ancestry, you are you and you can be whatever you want to be.” And they accepted it. Neither Kenzi nor her two older siblings ever got curious about their heritage as they considered it completely unimportant to their identity. They were American, as much as uber liberal, forward-thinking, ultra rebellious Americans can consider themselves to be. [break][break] When Kenzi was born, her parents knew they wanted to call her Kenzi, because they liked the name MacKenzie, but not the “Mac” part and they felt the “e” at the end was superfluous. So they threw caution to the wind and, unlike their two previous children, gave her an unconventional name, which Kenzi is quite proud of. [break][break] Kenzi has two older siblinging; Andrea and Robert (although he goes by Rob), who are six and eight years older than Kenzi respectively. Her siblings played a huge role in her life, basically acting as her cooler third and fourth parents. Not that her first and second parents weren’t cool enough. They were always very close to their children. They never talked down to them, they always told them the truth, they let them be privy to mature content such as adult literature and R-rated movies at a very young age, and more than anything, they let their children follow their dreams and supported them whole-heartedly, even if their dreams were...well...impractical to say the least. Rob wanted to be an actor growing up, he participated in all the school plays, in all the community plays, in every production he could be a part of, he even managed to get into a few commercials. Andrea wanted to be a musician. She quickly had the house cluttered with musical instruments of all kinds, she was in every aspect of the school band and performed in many concerts and she quickly took to composing her own music. Kenzi, as previously stated, wants to be an artist. All three siblings excel in their craft. They’re basically prodigies. Rob got the starring role in everything he auditioned for, Andrea can master every instrument almost instantly, and Kenzi can create stunning works of art. All three siblings wholly supported each other in their artistic endeavours, often working together to create tandem works of acting, music, and visual art. Although, as many know, it’s very difficult to sustain a living creating art. [break][break] Rob moved from their suburban home in the midwest to LA to pursue his dreams in his early twenties. There he met his wife, and a few years later had a daughter. He decided to move back home, settle down, and become a salesman, and a very successful salesman at that. Andrea at that point had begun her musical career. She was trying to make music that she felt was “true” and “artful” and “actually had meaning”, but due to the unconventional nature of her music, no producer would pick her up and she got very little traction online, so she took to making music for commercials and movies which, while it certainly paid the bills, absolutely drained her soul. Andrea got into some beef with Rob, thinking he gave up on his dreams and sold his soul to capitalism, failing to realize that settling down had made him very happy, and he was perfectly content with the life he had. Kenzi got stuck between the two siblings, but Andrea eventually convinced her to her side, and urged her to never give up on her dream of becoming an artist, of making true art. [break][break] Enough about her siblings. Kenzi, growing up, flew through school, not because she had especially good grades, because she didn’t, but she made friends so easily, it made school more like a social gathering than a place to learn. The only grade that mattered to her was her grade in art class, which she always excelled in. Her parents bought her tons of art supplies for birthdays, winter holidays (they didn’t strictly celebrate one winter holiday), even Valentine’s Day and Easter. When she wasn’t socializing, she spent most of her free time drawing, painting, creating art. [break][break] When she was around fifteen, a couple months after the Event, she’d just won the school’s Excellence in Art Award (again), and she was walking the gallery of the other winners, and she noticed very few people were stopping to admire her artwork. She felt a pang of jealousy and willed the people passing by her piece to stop and admire it, and to her surprise, they did. Soon enough there was a whole crowd of people around her painting, staring at it intensely. She thought it was odd, but was too proud of herself to think much of it. She began walking around the rest of the gallery, but when she came but to her piece, she found the crowd vacant again. This is when she became suspicious. [break][break] When she got home, she began experimenting on her parents, willing them to pay attention to something, and discovered if she wanted them to, they did, and she found if they were paying attention to one thing, they wouldn’t notice something else. After about a week of experimenting with her newfound power, she came to the definitive conclusion that she was a metahuman. She’d been telling her parents about her experiments as she’d been doing them, and of course they supported her wholeheartedly as long as she didn’t hurt anyone, which she didn’t. She’d heard about the boarding school in Washington and, partially wanting to learn more about her powers, partially wanting to escape Missouri and see if she could live on her own, decided she wanted to go there once the school year ended. Her parents, again, infinitely supportive, funded her journey to Washington and her new life at Evergreen Metahuman Boarding Academy.
[attr="class","hopelovetitle"]POWER [attr="class","hopelovetop"][attr="class","hopelovesub"]
ABILITY[break][break] Attention manipulation. She can focus someone’s attention on something or divert it away from something. This can render anything of her choosing practically invisible to whoever she’s focusing her powers on. The person won’t even be consciously aware that their attention is being forcefully diverted, they’ll only find whatever Kenzi wants them to focus on especially interesting or whatever she doesn’t want them to focus on especially uninteresting. She can also sense what someone is focusing their attention on.
[break][break] LIMITS[break][break] She can only control the attention of up to about twenty five people, and the more people she uses her power on at once, the weaker it is. She cannot influence the thoughts or opinions the person has on whatever they’re forced to focus on. The more direct her action, the harder it is to divert their attention i.e. it’s easier to divert their attention away from a tap on the shoulder than her drawing on their face. If she stops actively making the target focus or not focus their attention on something, their attention will return to normal. When sensing what someone is focusing on, she can’t read their minds if they’re focusing internally. She can get a sense that they’re focusing more internally than externally, but she wouldn't be able to tell what it's about, what emotions they're having about it, etc.
[break][break]
WEAKNESSES[break][break] Her newfound power has made her a very overconfident pickpocket/prankster, and although this is not without good reason, it can lead to her pulling off some pretty risky hijinks.
