You leave me here wondering if I'll ever know How much you care, or how much you don't If you're going to be somebody's last time, baby be mine. “ While Keke was reluctant to admit it aloud, truthfully the brunette really didn't keep up much with pop culture. Which would likely explain why she didn't immediately recognize the singer. Of course she'd heard of the pop star before and she'd been vaguely aware that the songstress had enrolled in EMBA, of course at that time it was just a rumor that someone famous would be attending and no one really knew for sure who it was. With the celebrity's identity having now been confirmed, the teen couldn't help but be a little surprised that the table wasn't swarming with students as she knew quite a few of her fellow classmates to be big fans of the superstar. What was perhaps even more baffling was how it came to be that Maia was sitting with Melody. Maia Morales seemed like the absolute last person that Melody would want to spend her lunch hour with. If the older girl's music was any indication of who she was as a person then Melody and Maia were surely polar opposites. In fact, she was precisely the type of girl that Melody would make fun of usually. The inquisitive sixteen year old's interest was fully piqued now, however before she could inquire further, Melody spoke up indicating she had discovered where things had gone awry with Keke's calculations. Shifting her gaze downwards as Melody shifted the sheet towards her circling the section of the problem where her math had gone wrong. As Melody assisted her friend, Maia's curiosity about the new arrival prompted the nineteen year old to scan Keke's emotions. Initially, the empath had detected curiosity with a hint of confusion, however once Melody begin to explain why the problems had been marked incorrect, the brunette had given Melody her undivided attention. A warm smile flashed across the older girl's face as she realized that even without her ability she'd been right about Melody. Despite the impression that the professors might have of her, Melody was exceptionally bright. Now having a full understanding of where and how she'd erred, Keke lightly slapped her forehead with her palm saying "Of course, That makes total sense. I'm such an idiot, how could I have missed that?" Seeing the pair work through the worksheet together, reminded Maia of some homework that she'd needed to finish. As Keke studied Melody's calculations as she worked through the problem the proper way, Maia shifted her position in the chair so that she could reach her backpack and tug her science textbook from it. Eager to test her understanding of what Melody had just explained to her, Keke had grabbed the pen and was actively attempting the problem again as Melody turned to Maia and inquired what she needed help with. Having observed the interaction between the songstress and her two lunchmates, it would seem that the fact that she hadn't been rude or dismissive of the technopath that had approached their table had convinced their classmates that the pop star was indeed approachable or at the very least polite. Just as she'd withdrawn her Physics homework, a trio of girls strolled over to the table. While the two brunettes still seemed somewhat terrified to speak, the blond beamed at Maia introducing herself as Ashley and the two brunettes as Tiffany and Michelle. Before she could introduce Melody and Keke, Ashley interrupted "Can we get a selfie?" Sighing inwardly, the nineteen year old shot Melody a look to seemed to say "I'm so sorry. Do you mind?"

She certainly worked harder to make a good impression on teachers than Melody did. On the other hand Melody was doing her utmost to be sent back home to her dad without a spell in juvie. Failing out of school seemed the best way to do that. Then at least they couldn't say that she'd refused to take the offer, just not been clever enough to make it at the boarding school.
It seemed that the arrival of Keke was only to herald the arrival of more students. The pop star might have been lamenting her loneliness, but being joined by Melody and her friend didn't necessarily seemed to have resolved the issue. Instead it seemed to have flipped it around. It was still a problem, just a more immediate one. The three girls who had approached hadn't done so to have a conversation. They were all members of the cheer squad, tall, gorgeous and with abilities that didn't change their appearance in the slightest. They would never have been caught dead talking to Melody.
Talking to a certified celebrity like Maia Morales though? That they would do. Melody nodded in response to Maia's questioning look, then pulled a face behind the trio's back, before grinning at her new friend and pulling out her own physics textbook. It too was dog eared and battered. Clearly it simply got slung into her bag with the minimum of care.
She slapped it down on the table and stared blankly at the three girls backs.

You leave me here wondering if I'll ever know How much you care, or how much you don't If you're going to be somebody's last time, baby be mine. “ As the trio approached it had initially been the pop star's intention to invite them to join herself, Melody, and Keke. However, it soon became clear to the brunette that the girls had no intention of conversing with herself or the two other girls seated at the table. Much like many others that she'd encountered during the course of her career they simply wanted something from her. In this case that 'something' was a selfie. The request in and of itself was innocent enough and rather typical for a fan, but these girls weren't fans. She didn't even need her ability to tell her that. These girls were vultures. While she might not have known them personally she certainly knew their type. They were the kind of people who built up their reputation off of that of others who had more clout. In fact, she was sorely tempted to refuse their request, but simply couldn't bring herself to be that rude. Somewhat comforted by the fact that they would receive their desired selfie and be on their way, Maia pasted a smile on her face that was deceptively genuine. To those who didn't know her that was. Having been granted permission to take a picture with her Tiffany stood on Maia's right casually draping her arm around the singer's shoulder while Michelle stood behind her with her arms folded across the back of the songstress's chair with her head rested on her folded arms. Ashley took her position on the teen idol's left also draping her arm across Maia's shoulder. With everyone in place it suddenly occurred to her that with everyone already in the frame they needed someone to take the picture. She had been just about to stop a passing student to ask them to take the picture when three phones floated out from behind her. With one phone hovering in the center and the other two on either side, the girls counted to three and then all three phones flashed before returning to their owners. Some it would seem that at least one of these girls was a telekinetic. Fascinating, the teen thought to herself. While the brunette was quite accustomed to being around other teens with powers, the freedom with which they used them was still a little surprising. She'd been just about to turn back to Melody to continue their impromptu study session when Ashley piped up "I just love your hair. It has so much volume and body." Catching sight of Melody's facial expression, the pop star pressed her lips together tightly to keep from laughing as she answered "Thanks. That's so sweet of you to say. That's such a pretty bracelet you're wearing. Really adorable." Ashley's face lit up at the compliment and before she knew it the girls had invited themselves to join them. The cheerleaders took the empty seats to Maia's left and began to prattle on about their favorite songs and favorite albums of hers. While the nineteen year old listened politely to the incessant chatter, she couldn't resist shooting Melody an exasperated glance. Still, the singer tolerated the one-sided conversation well enough until the topic turned to Josh Mambley. At the mere mention of the name Maia visibly winced. Why did people always feel entitled to know about her personal life? Out of all her relationships that one ended the worse and was easily the most damaging. To her relief and before she likely began sobbing like an infant Ashley caught sight of someone waving her over and slid from her chair prompting the other two girls to follow suit. Beaming at Maia she added "You really should consider trying out for the squad. We could definitely use someone with your moves and talent. Think about it." Rubbing her temples, Maia took a moment to compose herself before turning back to Melody and saying "Sorry about...well all of that. Where were we? Oh, right. Physics. My tutor didn't really go over physics much actually." Pulling her homework from the textbook she placed it on the table and slid it over to Melody. "I have a pretty good grasp of kinematic equations but I am struggling a little with creating these graphs of motion," Maia added.

Eclipse All my childhood heroes have fallen off or died | Maia seemed to deal with the three bitches well enough, she didn't even seem that perturbed by their arrival. But then they fit into her world in a way that Melody didn't, wouldn't, and never could if she wanted to. All three were tall and gorgeous, and seemed to find it so easy to talk to the singer. As opposed to Melody who seemed to check and recheck her responses before she said anything at all. For a moment she was almost jealous. Well, almost was probably an understatement.
Eventually the girls moved on, obviously called away by more pressing matters, leaving Melody, Maia and Keke alone once more. Melody was relived, and it probably showed on her face, even if it that signal didn't matter to Maia. She mused for a moment that it might be on of the reasons why Maia seemed to be struggling here, before dismissing it. Everyone here had abilities, but it wasn't common knowledge what everyone could do. The professors and teachers knew, sure, but usually it was up to the individual as to whether the disclosed their power to their peers. Presumably that wasn't forever. Melody had heard that some of the older students were required to use the regularly in classes, though there wasn't much that she knew about that.
She snapped back to reality as Maia slid her textbook over the table towards her. Relieved at the distraction, Melody bent her head to the book, pulling Maia's homework towards her. It took her a moment to take in the work Maia had done, before turning her attention back to the questions she had evidently been set from the textbook.
It only took her a minute to work out where Maia had been struggling and start to redress the issue. "OK, so it looks like this is what you've been doing wrong."
She flipped the book around and beginning pointing things out, only sketching out one or two notes as she did so to illustrate her points. Maia was clearly not stupid, she'd just fallen foul of one of the common mistakes when learning kinematics and graphs of motion. Fortunately for the star, Melody had intentionally failed several tests on just these subjects in the past, actually getting them right was comparatively child's play.

The sudden quiet was deafening. This was, after all, a school canteen; even when the school was one for Metahumans, many of whom were expected to one-day go on to be heroes and protect people, teenagers in sufficiently large quantities would always produce a near-deafening din, regardless of how quiet each individual thought they were being. But now, if only for a few moments, there was silence. The main double doors swung open, and a man stepped through. He was dressed as a school janitor, blue overalls and gloves, but no member of staff would recognise him, and his uniform was far too clean and neat to be that of a long-term cleaner midway through his workday. He was perhaps average height, with a substantial stomach, and both the biggest white beard and the sharpest, brightest blue eyes that the girl had ever seen. Most incongruously, he carried in his hands a package wrapped in bright red paper, with snowflakes dotted around and a red ribbon tying it all together. He strode into the room, his every step carrying weight beyond that of silly jokes about his stomach. He had gravitas, was the kind of man to which all eyes were drawn. But they weren’t. Somehow, everyone’s eyes simply slid over him, like he was just another person in the background. No one could look at him, it seemed that no one could even see him. No one except the girl. It was to her table that his stride brought him, and as she looked up at him he looked down at her in turn. His blue eyes, so bright, twinkled like stars even as his down-turned head threw them into shadow His voice was deep, and gentle, the words spoken slowly. “A gift, from a friend of yours.”He handed the parcel in his hands to her, a small square of paper, then straightened even as Melody turned her eyes to her gift. When she looked back, the man was gone, the doors closed, and everything as it had been. Everything that is, except the small box in her hands. Melody Newton

You leave me here wondering if I'll ever know How much you care, or how much you don't If you're going to be somebody's last time, baby be mine. “ Although, it had been quite some time since Maia had attended a regular school it would appear that not much had changed. It would seem that every school even one that catered to a class of unique teenagers such as this one subscribed to a strict social hierarchy. Which was quite interesting to the brunette, to say the least as she'd naturally assumed that in a school where everyone was 'special' no one really stood out more than any other student. Lest they had some freakishly cool power that no one had ever seen or heard of before. Still the inclusion of organized sports had come as a surprise to the teen as she hadn't much seen the point of it other than being a vain attempt by the administration to make the school seem more 'normal'. There was no way that their athletes could compete without other schools complaining that they possessed an unfair advantage which essentially made their cheerleaders decorative at best. The more that she thought of it, it was quite possible that being a cheerleader or a jock was even more of a status symbol here than it was in other schools. Still, it seemed that being a celebrity outranked even the cheerleaders and the teenager wasn't quite sure how she felt about that. Like most young girls she had always wanted to be a cheerleader in middle/high school, but even then it had been a popularity contest and in some cases outright nepotism as sisters of existing cheerleaders often were selected over newcomers. How strange it felt to have vied for the attention of girls like Ashley, Tiffany, and Michelle for so long only to now have them flock to her of their own accord. In keeping true to her nature, Melody seemed less than impressed with the arrival of the trio of cheerleaders. In fact their prolonged presence actually seemed to vex the brunette although the singer wasn't quite sure why. It was as if a fog had settled over the table and was only lifted at the departure of the cheerleaders. The pop star couldn't imagine that a girl like Melody was actually afraid of the snobby girls, but still she was clearly uncomfortable in their presence. Had they been rude to Melody in passing or otherwise given her a hard time in some other way, Maia wondered. Interestingly, enough Melody's friend seemed completely oblivious of the girls' arrival and subsequently their departure. The teen idol was beginning to suspect that this Keke truly marched to the beat of her own drum which in a way made her friendship with Melody make sense somehow. While a far cry from your typical nerd, the nineteen year old had always been far more studious than her celebrity counterparts and it showed in her work. Despite her mother's urging to focus entirely on her career, the singer was well aware of how fickle the entertainment industry as a whole was and insisted on continuously educating herself if for no other reason than insuring that she had something to fall back on. Just as she slid her book towards Melody, when it seemed that the other dark haired girl sitting at the table with them sprang back to life. Her dark gaze had settled upon a small square of paper in Melody's hand. Curiosity shone in the technopath's dark orbs as she inquired "Oooh, what's that? I would assume that they are notes of some sort but then when I thought about, it I realize that you don't really take notes. Or at least I've never seen you do it before. Of course you have to actually go to class in order to take notes, don't you?" Keke giggled a little as Melody shifted her attention to Maia's homework. With the teenager's curiosity burning even brighter, Keaira glanced over Melody's shoulder. As she took in the contents of the textbook, the teen's mouth fell into an 'O' of surprise as she exclaimed "Oh my gosh, you take Physics? Physics is an advanced course, they won't even let me take it till next year. It was full or something, I don't know. You must be really smart!" Suddenly, the sixteen year old's face flushed as she considered how her statement could easily become misconstrued. Flustered she added "Not, that I assumed you weren't smart of course. It's just that you don't hear of alot of celebrities interested in that kind of thing..." Tugging on the edge of her ponytail in a manner that often broadcast her anxiety, the brunette continued "Did uh....did I mention that I loved your last album?"

Eclipse All my childhood heroes have fallen off or died | Confused, Melody carefully tucked away the small envelope. Nobody else seemed to have seen the plump, bearded individual, which was odd in such a crowded room. "It's nothing" she said hurriedly, make a visible point out of refocusing her attention onto the textbook in front of her.
True to form, Keke let the matter drop and moved on to something else. In this case it was the physics textbook. Looking up, Melody caught Maia's eye as Keke started stumbling over her words and backtracking. Well at least she wasn't the only one who found it difficult to behave normally around the popstar. The younger girl let Keke continue as she opened Maia's homework and begin to check the work with reference to her own textbook. The textbook in question was almost black with notes, with hardly an inch of space left in any of the borders.
It took her a few moments to see what had gone wrong, Melody flipped a few pages to cross-reference a formula, then circled something on Maia's work in pencil. "Here, this bit, you've messed up the equation, it should A equals, V minus U over T. But you've done U minus V, then divided the whole thing by T instead of just this half, you see?"
She pushed the work back across the table, "Try the whole question again like that and I bet it'll give something that sounds better."
Her own physics homework was crumpled up somewhere in the bottom of her bag. She had more of an interest in physics than a lot of her other subjects, but she wasn't going to go to the effort of actually handing in homework. That would totally defeat the point of cultivating the reputation she had of being a difficult and challenging student. Instead it had been scribbled into a notebook she kept for the purpose, one she had no intention of showing to the teachers.
Turning back to Keke, she said "How's that exercise going? Did you get it right this time?"

You leave me here wondering if I'll ever know How much you care, or how much you don't If you're going to be somebody's last time, baby be mine. “
Melody's vague responses and blatant avoidance of the topic at hand only managed to further fuel Keaira's curiosity. However, Keke had spent enough time around the ill tempered brunette to know that pressing the issue would not bode well for her. Or anyone for that matter. Thusly, despite how badly she wanted to know what was in the envelope and from whence it came, the technopath reluctantly dropped the subject. Shifting her gaze back to the pop star's homework assignment. While Maia was certainly used to people getting tongue tied around her, the teen still found the stammering amusing. So much so that when the fair skinned teenager began backtracking, the starlet's gaze dropped as her lips pressed together firmly to hold back the laughter. Although truthfully, she couldn't really fault the sixteen year old too much. For reasons that she didn't fully understand it seemed to be a common misconception that celebrities were unintelligent or not academically accomplished. As if one chose a career in the arts because they simply couldn't cut it in a more challenging field as opposed to having a genuine love for what they did. It was more than a little maddening when she thought about it and perhaps that was why Maia never bothered to hide her scholastic achievements for those that sought such information. Smiling softly, the singer replied "You know, you might actually be surprised at how brilliant some of your favorite celebrities truly are. They just have these image consultants who like to conceal that kind of thing to make them more marketable. They always trying to make sure that you are either super relatable or a standard in which to strive towards. It's not at all unlike the social structure here where been smart isn't necessarily viewed as cool. Only it's kind of on a global scale, if that makes sense. A bit more pressure." Keke had parted her lips to respond when it seemed that Melody had located the error in Maia's work. As Melody began to explain where she'd gone wrong with her calculations, Maia's gaze drifted back over to her homework paying particular attention to what the younger girl had circled. Maia studied her work intensely as she took in Melody's instruction before a bright smile finally broke out over the teenager's face. Likely pressing her palm against her forehead, the teen exclaimed "Of course! Such a simple mistake. How the heck could I have missed that?" Just as she had been about to praise Melody for being so astute, a very distinctive buzzing against the table drew the pop star's attention. Glancing at the device, the young woman snagged it from the table and hurriedly placed it against her ear. As her mother's voice filtered through the phone, the teen idol sighed inwardly as the smile on her face slowly dissipated.
