Dara's mother dropped her off on the medical floor where most of her testing was going to be done and last most of the day, her mother would pick her up after things were done. She kissed her mother and wished her a good first day as a supervisor on a few floors up from where she would be.

Dara was nervous but she did not tell her mom just how nervous she was and was hoping her nervousness did not show up or mess up any of the testing today. She went into a room and changed into a pair of scrubs as directed and then went to the testing room and patiently waited for the technician.

Some moments later, a tall blonde female with a white lab coat and stethoscope around her neck and a clipboard in her hand came up to Dara. "Dara Cowles?" She asked and Dara nodded her head yes.
"Hi Dara, I am Sandy and I will be doing most of your testing today, if you have any questions or need a rest just let me know." Sandy gave her the clipboard and instructed her to fill out the paperwork carefully and she would be back in about a half an hour to conduct the next stage of the testing.

Dara filled out the questions as best as she could though there were some she would have asked her mom about some. A half hour later Sandy came back with another tech named Kristen who quickly excused herself, came back for a moment and left again. Dara would wonder about Kristen but didn't say anything. The pair would walk her to a big room with a huge donut like machine that had a thin table going through it. Kristen would ask Dara to hop up on the table and carefully positioned her on the thin table. Kristen would ask her weather or not she was claustrophobic and Dara just whispered "no". Kristen would also ask her about her condition and such and asked her if she knew what a meta was. Dara would reply to her questions but told her she never heard the word 'meta' before. Sandy had come in to check on the pair and Kristen would disappear, making Sandy have to wait for her to return.

Unknowing to Dara or Sandy, Kristen is a META who noticed rather quick that her power would not work around Dara. Kristen is an empathic who could feel emotions from others and noticed anytime she was near Dara, she could not feel her emotions, Kristen had never experienced that feeling of not being able to 'read' someone since her power surfaced with the "Event". For Kristen her power was very much a part of her that she grew accustomed to using in everyday life, so to suddenly not be able to use it made her feel strange. However, she also thought she may try to see if any other meta's were effected by Dara like she was.

The CAT scan done, it was onto another room for a MRI now. Sandy in the control room and Kristen with Dara would position her on yet another slim table, this time the device looked like a huge box with a small hole and the sliding table. This one made loud hammering sounds when it was activated. As Dara was doing her test, Kristen had slipped away. Kristen would come back with a guy who looked like a janitor who was making a motion like pulling candy, he shakes his head in like a 'no' gesture and left, Kristen was looking at Dara hard.

Sandy would have to work with Dara since, Kristen disappeared yet again. The next test she was brought into a dark room it had a box on a pole with lots of thin wires coming from it. Sandy had Dara sit in a chair and started to brush Dara's hair. Dara asked about the test and Sandy would tell her it would record her brain waves. Kristen had come back and Dara noticed Sandy give her a disapproving look as Kristen took over applying the electrodes to Dara. Dara asked about the guy and Kristen just told her that he cleaned the place. Kristen was asking Dara questions, like when these migraines started and so on. Dara was tired explaining her situation to others but did as she was told and again explained her story of the migraines and the seizures. "Interesting" Kristen said out loud and Dara turned to face Kristen "Do you know what's wrong with me?" Kristen shook her head no and told Dara that more tests needed to be done after this one. Kristen lied to Dara, she was begining to understand what was going on with the kid and maybe the cause of her symptoms.

Kristen was going to start doing her own tests on the girl but now had to tread lightly from now on as she did not want to loose being able to work with the girl. She would pull out her note pad and started to jot things down like her experience around the girl and that of the janitor, she also started to write down the test results, something of which wasn't shared with Dara as it was compiled into a full work up for doctors to have a final say from the results. For now Kristen made is making it a mission to get to know the girl better.

As Kristen continued to place the probes on Dara, Kristen started to try to get to know her. "So are you in school? I loved school when I was your age." Even though Kristen was only a few years ahead of Dara, it still made Kristen feel old. "I was on our cheer team as a flyer, those that do those insane things and yes I got dropped a few times, thankfully never broke anything." Kristen told Dara the truth, sharing some of her own life. She felt that it would be easier for Dara to open up to her if she shared abit of herself.

"Yeah, I was in school but I'll be doing some online schooling while I'm here in San Fran having these tests done to determine why I have so many migraines and seizures." Dara told Kristen as Kristen continued to paste electodes to the youths head. "Just a few more of these things and you'll look like madusa!" Kristen joked to ease any tension Dara may have had. It was good to see the girl smile dispite all she has been through.

"I miss my sister Kara but we talk all the time on the phone and we text each other, she still wants me to ride her horse but I am scared of that horse, it's to tall, I do not want to fall off." Dara told Kristen as she applied the last electrode to Dara's head. "Done" Kristen exclaimed as she put a mesh tube over her head to keep the wires from pulling out during testing. "Will you have a seat on the bed now and I think Sandy is ready to test you, I'll be back when she is done frying your brain cells." Kristen held up a hand "I'm joking" Dara tried not to laugh but failed.

Sandy would ask Dara to do things like touch her nose and open and close her eyes, it seemed rather silly but it was to measure her brainwaves. Sandy then had her lay down on the bed and she briefly came in to bend a light over her face and went back to the control room. "Let's begin" Sandy told Dara through the intercom.

Dara held her breath, not knowing what to expect from this kind of testing. Sandy's voice came over the intercom, startling Dara. "Ok Ms.Cowles, please relax we are getting some baseline readings." Dara called out "Please call me Dara, ok?" Sandy came back and told her ok and it would be about 20 minuets and they would start.

As Dara laid there in the dark room, she could hear Kristen's voice talking to Sandy, something about the readings? She didn't know but it did scared Dara not knowing what was going on with her mind that would cause these migraines and the seizures, the drugs the doctors had prescribed were not helping the least.

Before the 20 minuets were up, Dara held fallen asleep, so Sandy and Kristen recorded her sleeping, it was a part of test and it was not uncommon for some to fall asleep during this test. Dara was still, her breathing was slow but within normal range. As Dara slept, Kristen tried to read the girl and still was unable to. She could not even read Sandy who she was right next to. Kristen not used to not being able to read other was quite uncomfortable being there. Kristen would excuse herself to go to the break room for lunch. While she was away from Dara she could read everyone else walking by and so on. Kristen would call a friend an asked her to come over to the ward, she wanted them to try to read the girl. Her friend is a telepathic psychic and she was well versed in how people try to 'dicive' psychics when they read them by giving them wrong replies but a true psychic such as her friend couldn't have the wool pulled over her eyes. If there was anything to this girl that was not up and up her friend would know for sure. Kristen stood outside Dara's exam room and then started to count how many steps away from the door until she could read Sandy in the next room.

"one, two, three . . . .twenty eight, twenty nine, thirty, thirty one?" Kristen counted and made a metal note for when her friend came. Looking at her watch she left the area to go meet up with her psychic friend. It was not long before Kristen was leading her friend to just outside Dara's room. Kristen did not tell her friend anything except that she needed a second opinion. Her friend also being a meta would sense right away that she could not read the child. Her friend pulled her out range from the room "That child is genuine, you do know who you have to call now don't you?" Her friend had a seriousness to her voice but Kristen knew what she had to do even before her friend came. Kristen just wanted to get as much information on the girl before contacting her handler.

Her friend from outside the about 30 range could read the child clearly and the young one did not even know what she was or how special she was. Her friend told her if she needed anything with this child, just to give her a call and she would respond. With that her friend left and Kristen now had to watch this one and what would happen to her during the tests while here.

Before going back to the control room with Sandy, she made that call to her handler and told her all about Dara and what she could do. The handler said they would pass the information on but to keep them in the loop about the girl.

Going back to the control room, she looked over at the still sleeping Dara and then back to Sandy "How is she doing? Anything?" Kristen asked Sandy. Sandy shook her head, other then some dips into really deep REM sleep she was normal as normal could be. Kristen looked up at Dara sleeping, it reminded her of those pictures of sleeping angels. Kristen suggested to Sandy to go get something to eat and that is what Sandy did. With Sandy out of the control room, Kristen could make copies of the girls file and her tests results to date. Kristen put the copies in her clip board and then sat just watching the sleeping Dara.

"Oh sleeping child, you do not know just how special you are!" Kristen whispered to herself.

It was time to wake up Dara and Kristen volunteered to wake the child. Going to the side of the exam table where Dara laid, Kristen put her hand on her shoulder. For a moment she tried to make an empathic connection with her physically. However as all this time around her, Kristen was unable to use her ability. Kristen lightly shook Dara "It's time to wake up" she lightly shook her again "Dara, wake up." Dara stirred and woke up. Kristen asked her to remain laying as they started the next part of the testing. Sandy in the control room told Dara that there would be a series of lights. Kristen explained that some people have seizures when they see patterns of lights. Some people are so sensitive that even driving down a road with the light poles and the sun could set off a seizure. Kristen assured her that she would stay at her side just in case. Kristen nodded to Sandy and they began with the different patterns of lights flashing from the light bar that had been placed above her head before she had fallen asleep. It was two hours of flashing lights without even a twitch although Dara did report of having a migraine now.
Sandy asked the Doctor on call if the child could be given something for her migraine, the doctor prescribed some Advil that Dara would take.
Dara's mother had come down to check on her daughter during her break. Sandy told Dara's mom that all the tests so far are all normal, but she developed a migraine on the last test. Sandy didn't think that the test it self triggered the migraine and the test appeared normal so far. They would call the stress test off for the day and had suggested that maybe she stay the night for observation. Dara's mother agreed and would bring her stuff by later.
Kristen told Dara's mom that she would stay with her and keep her company.
Kristen thought she could get to know Dara more and find out more about her.
Settled in her room for the night, Dara and Kristen chatted and played card games and chatted some more.
When Dara fell asleep for the night, Kristen went and called her handler to give an update. The handler told her to be prepared for a visit, he would be by in less then an hour to see this girl for himself and to collect any info that Kristen had for him with that Kristen went and got a bite to eat and met her handler in the parking lot to give a verbal update and all the paper copies she collected. She gave him a lab jacket and brought him upstairs to the girls room. Her handler is a telepath and tried to use his power on the girl at the door, it was clear her could not, so he walked away slowly until he could read the childs mind now, about 30 feet away just as Kristen told him.
With instructions to not let that child out of her site, he told her that he would be in touch with her.
After he left, Kristen went to the bunk room and went to sleep for a few hours and then went back to Dara's side.

The next morning a nurse came with a breakfast tray for Dara, she looked under the dome to find two over easy eggs, two small breakfast ham steaks and two strips of bacon. Also on the tray was an half a grapefruit, two apple juice boxes and a box of milk. She would eat everything except the bacon that she gave to Kristen to eat along with a box of apple juice. Dara asked Kristen what types of tests would be done today. Kristen said they would take the electrodes off her head and she could take a shower to wash her hair then they would see how she felt. If she didn't have any sign of a highahce or seizure activity, they would do some stress tests on her. Most involved a treadmill walk to run and then just running and then they would ask her to sprint until she could do it no more. All while a new set of probes that would be attached to her chest would record her vitals.

Dara asked Kristen what could be the cause of her migraines and seizures? Kristen just gave the scientific reasons for those ailments but also added that the tests so far could not find a reason for such things to be happening to her. Kristen did not tell her that she thought that the reason behind her sickness was that she had a power and that she was a metahuman.

Dara asked if she could pace the ward as her legs were abit stiff. Kristen smiled and walked with Dara up and down the ward, mostly in silence only broken by the intercom or Kristen's pager that kept beeping every now and then. Dara if she needed to get that and Kristen would shrug it off, she knew it was her handler and she would not dare talk with him in front of Dara.

Sandy joined the pair about noon and they conducted the stress tests. By late afternoon they were done and Sandy called Dara's mother for her to pick her up.
When Dara's mother came to pick her up, Sandy told her that the tests looked normal and that the final results would be sent after the doctor reviews them.
Kristen would wave good bye and then quickly booked off and followed Dara home. She stayed in her car and called her handler back giving him an update of the happenings and that she was now home with her mother. He told her to stay put and watch the house and try to keep an eye on Dara. They hung up and Kristen would rest her head on her hand that she propped up by her elbow on the side of the window and lead on the backrest of the seat. Kristen would think to herself that this was going to be a long day.
